The Importance of Respect
Respect is of great importance, not only for every individual, but also for the
mankind and the whole society.
First, respect forms the basis for our moral cultivation, which is an important
to differentiate our mankind from other species. Being respectful represents the quality
of leniency. If we can respect the people we don't like, we elevate our own moral
cultivation virtually. Also, self-respect can urge us to be strict with our behavior, pushing
ourselves to be courteous, courageous and righteous. As the saying goes, "Respect is
the partner that sits with good will", so being respect, we can be a lofty man.
Second, respecting others can produce strength for us. It does not mean the
strength produced by food or water, but something spiritual. It can be argued from two
aspects. First, it is respect that enlighten our forebears to fight against unfair systems.
The Emancipation of Proclamation declared by Lincoln is aimed to emancipate the
slaves and rose up for equal rights for them. Also, the respect for history stimulate
mankind to work harder. Every time we travel to some famous relics such as China's
Great Wall, we are always subdued by our ancestors' wisdom and strength, which not
only urges us to protect vestige, but also push us to work harder to create more
miracles. Thus, no matter from which aspect, respect is our strength resource.
Finally, respect leads to a harmonious world. Nowadays, the global integration of
economy and information of revolution have brought the world closer and closer than
ever before. In a society in which the differences between us are easier to spot than the
similarities, achieving mutual respect is not just a matter of importance , but of necessity.
For example, there are almost 200 countries in the world, each having different cultures,
traditions and values. It is impossible for every country to hold a same idea on every
issue. However, putting aside the differences and being respectful, we can reach a
common view peacefully. Otherwise, the lack of respect can only leads to riots, chaos or
even wars, obviously deviating to high road to harmony. Therefore, without respect, a
harmonious society is an unreachable dream.
In sum, the importance of respect is evident. No matter every single man or the
human race and the whole world, cannot carry on without respect.
