语言是一种社会现象，是人类进行交际的工具，同时也是文化的一个重要组成部分。
不同民族的语言既受本民族社会文化的制约，又反映各自特定的文化内容。
语言学家ＦｒａｎｚＢｏａｓ在“ＬａｎｇｕａｇｅａｎｄＴｈｏｕｇｈｔ”一文中说：“在思维方面对语言与文化最有明显影响力的是词汇”［１］（ｐ１０８）。
颜色词是一种感官词，是英语词库中的重要组成部分之一，它反映了语言与社会文化的关系。
然而由于不同文化价值观、信仰、历史传统和风俗习惯的不同，同一种颜色对汉英民族在心理上所引发的文化内涵不尽相同，因此译者怎样处理好颜色词的翻译不容忽视。
且相关研究表明：白色不仅是各民族语言中的基本色彩，在现实生活中还是构成颜色词语的主体躯干［２］（ｐ４７）。
因此，本文主要探讨白色在汉英语言中存在的文化差异及其翻译的问题，力求对汉英语言的互译寻求一种指导意义。
一、汉语中“白色”的文化内涵根据我国新华汉语词典（全新版），白是指“像雪一样的颜色”［３］（Ｐ１３）。
秋去冬来，大雪纷飞，整个大地变成了银妆素裹的世界，一望无垠的雪是如此透明干净，如此神圣纯洁，给人们带来了洁白无瑕的感受。
因此，“白”是纯洁和无辜的象征。
张九龄在《酬宋使君见贻》诗中写到，“才明应主召，福善岂神欺，但愿白心在，终然涅不缁”。
这里用“白心”表示纯洁的胸怀。
岳飞墓和秦桧像旁有一对联这样写道“青山有幸埋忠骨，白铁无辜铸奸臣”。
此对联中的“白”是清白无辜之意。
白天和黑夜是自然现象，人们把这种现象看作是“白”与“黑”的对立。
