(一)A(2016·辽宁五校联考)It is best known as a city of monument. In the middle of traffic circles or on street corners, you’ll find statues, plaques (匾牌),and simple blocks of marble there. They honor the people who helped shape the US.And on Oct.20,Lonely Planet, one of the world’s largest travel guides, named Washington D.C.the No.1 city in its list of “Best in Travel 2015”.“The year 2015 is a fantastic year to visit Washington D.C.,”Tom Hall, editorial director of Lonely Planet, told The Guardian. “The 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination(暗杀) makes this year big for Washington D.C.The famous top hat of American’s 16th president and the gun that fired the deadly shot will be on display.Add that to its incredible eats, performing arts and museums. The nation’s capital is looking better than ever.”There are a lot of free museums in the city. When British scientist James Smithson died in 1829,he left a will giving his money to the United States to open a museum at Washington, under the name of the Smithsonian Institution. It has turned out to be a wonderful gift, and the institution now covers 19 museums. And of course,no Washington tour is complete without seeing the White House, the Capitol, and the Supreme Court, which are home to the three pillars (核心) of the US government. But there is more to explore in the center of US power. It is a city you can walk across, with wideopen avenues, old neighborhoods, and river views. And as USA_Today notes, diversity is another reason to “fall in love with the city”.“There is a lot of diversity in Washington D.C.,seen in its people, its neighborhoods and its landmarks. From Chinatown to Little Ethiopia, visiting the nation’s capital is like seeing the world in one trip,”said the newspaper.【解题导语】本文列举种种理由力证华盛顿是2015年最值得旅游的地方。

阅读下列四篇短文,从每小题后所给的A,B,C或D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。 Education isn’t all about classrooms. Homework plays a huge role in student learning. Given how much time we spend studying in a lifetime, and how hard it is to find time to study, techniques that make studying more efficient ─ that is, techniques that allow you to learn more in the same amount of time ─ can be incredibly valuable.

One of the most important study techniques that you don’t know about is this: Space your studying.

What does that mean? If you are going to study something twice (or more), try to let as much time pass as possible between the first and second time you study. For example, don’t read your textbook chapter and then review it on the same day. Study it and then review it on a different day, and allow as much time to pass between the two study sessions as possible. Better yet, spread your studying across numerous days. You don’t necessarily have to study more, you just have to distribute your study time differently. When you sit down to study, mix up your topics ─ instead of studying one topic per day, study every topic a little bit every day.

You’re in a department store and you see a couple of attractive young women looking at a sweater. You listen to their conversation:“I can’t believe it—a Lorenzo Bertolla! They are almost impossible to find. Isn’t it beautiful? And it’s a lot cheaper than the one Sara bought in Rome.”They leave and you go over to see this incredible sweater. It’s nice and the price is right. You’ve never heard of Lorenzo Bertolla, but those gir ls looked really stylish. They must know. So, you buy it. You never realize that those young women are employees of an advertising agency. They are actually paid to go from store to store, talking loudly about Lorenzo Bertolla clothes.Every day we notice what people are wearing, driving and eating. If the person looks cool, the product seems cool, too. This is the secret of undercover marketing. Companies from Ford to Nike are starting to use it.Undercover marketing is important because it reaches peopl e that don’t pay attention to traditional advertising. This is particularly true of the MTV generation—consumers between the age of 18 and 34. It is a golden group. They have a lot of money to spend, but they don’t trust ads.So advertising agencies hire young actors to “perform”in bars and other places where young adults go. Some people might call this practice deceptive (骗人的), but marketing executive Jonathan Ressler calls it creative. “Look at traditional advertising. Its effectiveness is decreasing.”H owever, one might ask what exactly is “real” about of young women pretending tobe enthusiastic about a sweater? Advertising executives would say it’s no less real than an ad. The difference is that you know an ad is trying to persuade you to buy something. You don’t know when a conversation you overhear is just a performance.1. The two attractive young women were talking so that they could______.A. get the sweater at a lower priceB. be heard by people aroundC. be admired by other shoppersD. decide on buying the sweater2. Lorenzo Bertolla is______.A. a very popular male singerB. an advertising agencyC. a clothing company in RomeD. the brand name of a sweater3. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?A. The two girls are in fact employed by the Lorenzo Bertolla Company.B. The MTV generation tends to be more easily influenced by ads.C. Traditi onal advertising is becoming less effective because it’s too direct.D. Undercover marketing will surely be banned soon by the government.4. Roger Sperry and Robert Ornstein of the California Institute of Technology, NobelPrize winners, discovered that the human brain has two sides, and each side hasdifferent work to do. The left side of the brain controls language and number andit analyses and reasons. 36 It controls our appreciation of music and our senseof rhythm. It is also the right side of our brain which daydreams.Leonardo da Vinci was the great painter and sculptor. He was also an architect, ascientist and an inventor! 37 When he invented machines he used both hisimaginative ability and his analytical ability.38 Albert Einstein enjoyed art, playing the violin and sailing. Indeed,Einstein said his scientific discoveries grew from his imagination rather than fromanalysis, reason and language. He said that written and spoken words were not importantin his thinking. The story goes that Einstein was daydreaming one summer’s day whilesitting on a hill. He imagined that he was riding on sunbeams to the far distanceof the universe. Then he found that he had returned to the sun. So he realized thatthe universe must curve(弯曲).39 He then used the left side of his brain to apply analysis, number and reason. And finally he used language to explain it.Traditional education in schools encourages us to use the left side of our brains. Language, number, analysis and reason are given more importance in our schools thanimagination and daydreaming. Why don’t we give more value to visual thinking? Whyjump on one foot if we have two perfectly good legs!40 We need to use our imagination to think of solutions to problems and toenjoy emotional and artistic experiences. And we need to be logical able to analyzeand organize in order to survive day by day.A. The right side controls our imagination and our understanding of space.B. Great scientists and great artists are similar.C. We all need both sides of our brain.D. He got this idea by using his imagination.E. We benefit by thinking creatively.F. He used both sides of his brain within each activity.G. Generally speaking, however, getting what you really want out of life is just a matter of the following three simple steps.[3]Firstly, you have to decide what it is you want the most. But do not make a list of wishes; try to focus on one thing at a time. If you're not sure about where you want to go, you'd better think it over first and not hurry to perform.[4]Secondly, create an action plan. This will be your map for getting from "____________________" to "where you want to go". You know what you want, and what steps you are going to take to get it. For example, if you want a better job, start with a skills assessment and maybe some extra training. Then you'll need to sell yourself and your skills either to your present employer or to a new employer.[5]Other goals will require a bit more thought. Some will really get you lost without a clue of how to get there. Not to worry, though, books, biographies and such, can be of great help.[6]The third and final step is to execute. Do what you planned. Take the steps you outlined on your road map and keep going on all the time. If you run into somepeople who are against you, simply ignore them.[7]Never give up the goal. Keep pushing. Whatever you do, do not lose heart untilyou have what you desire in your hands. Are you a saver or a spender?"A penny saved is a penny earned." This old saying calls attention to the wisdom of saving money. "_________________________" is another way to talk about saving for the future.People who hate to spend money are known as "tightwads," while those who like to get the most value for their money are called "thrifty." A thrifty person is different from a "spendthrift." A spendthrift is someone who spends wastefully. People like that are often said to spend money "like a drunken sailor" or "like there's no tomorrow."In the United States, people who want to start a savings account have different choices of where to put their money. These include banks and credit unions. Credit unions are cooperatives for people who have some kind of connection. For example, the members might work for a university or a government agency. Most credit unions are nonprofit organizations.Credit unions, banks and other financial institutions pay interest on savings accounts. But the interest rates are low. Certificates of deposit(存款证) pay higher returns. With a certificate of deposit, or CD, a person agrees not to withdraw the money for a certain period of time. This term could be anywhere from a few months to several years. Longer terms, and larger amounts, pay higher interest. People can withdraw their money early but they have to pay a fine.In a number of countries, people have been saving less over the years. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is a group of thirty-four countries. The OECD says in 1990, Americans had a household savings rate of seven percent. This year, that rate is expected to be a little more than four percent and many European countries have higher rates like the UK and France , but Americans save more than families in countries like Japan and South Korea.1.Which of the following proverbs can be filled in the blank in Paragraph 2?A.Health is wealth.B.Money is a good servant but a bad masterC.Put money away for a rainy day.D.Money doesn’t grow on trees.2.If you have $10,000, which of the following may help you get higher interest ?A.Choose certificates of deposit for one year.B.Put the money in banks for one year.C.Put the money in credit unions for one year.D.Choose certificates of deposit for one year but withdraw the money ahead of time.3.What does the passage mainly talk about ?A.Different choices of putting money away in the US.B.The importance of saving money.C.How to put money into banks.D.The household savings rate in the US.参考答案1—3、CAA【阅读理解】人物故事类阅读下列四篇短文,从每小题后所给的A,B,C或D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

It was Saturday. As always, it was a busy one, for “Six days shall you labor and do all your work” was taken seriously back then. Outside, Father and Mr. Patrick next door were busy in chopping firewood. Inside their own houses, Mother and Mrs. Patrick were engaged in spring cleaning.Somehow the boys had slipped away to the back lot with their kites. Now, even at the risk of having Brother caught to beat carpets, they had sent him to the kitchen for more string(线). It seemed there was no limit to the heights to which kites would fly today. My mother looked at the sitting room, its furniture disordered for a thorough sweeping. Again she cast a look toward the window. “Come on, girls! Let’s take string to the boys and watch them fly the kites a minute.”On the way we met Mrs. Patrick, laughing guiltily as if she were doing something wrong, together with her girls. There never was such a day for flying kites! We played all our fresh string into the boys’ kites and they went up higher and higher. We could hardly distinguish the orange-colored spots of the kites. Now and then we slowly pulled one kite back, watching it dancing up and down in the wind, and finally bringing it down to earth, just for the joy of sending it up again.Even our fathers dropped their tools and joined us. Our mothers took their turn, laughing like schoolgirls. I think we were all beside ourselves. Parents forgot their duty and their dignity; children forgot their everyday fights and little jealousies.“Perhaps it’s like this in the kingdom of heaven,” I thought confusedly. It was growing dark before we all walked sleepily back to the houses. I suppose we had some sort of supper. I suppose there must have been a surface tidying-up, for the house on Sunday looked clean and orderly enough. The strange thing was, we didn’t mention that day afterward. I felt a little embarrassed. Surely none of the others had been as excited as I. I locked the memory up in that deepest part of me where we keep“the things that cannot be and yet they are.”The years went on, then one day I was hurrying about my kitchen in a city apartment, trying to get some work out of the way while my three-year-old insistently cried her desire to“go park, see duck.”“I can’t go!” I said. “I have this and this to do, and when I’m through I’ll be too tired to walk that far.”My mother, who was visiting us, looked up from the peas she was shelling. “It’s a wonderful day,” she offered, “really warm, yet there’s a fine breeze. Do you remember that day we flew kites?”I stopped in my dash between stove and sink. The locked door flew open and with ita rush of memories. “Come on,” I told my little girl. “You’re right, it’s too good a day to miss.”Another decade passed. We were in the aftermath(余波)of a great war. All evening we had been asking our returned soldier, the youngest Patrick Boy, about his experiences as a prisoner of war. He had talked freely, but now for a long time he had been silent. What was he thinking of—what dark and horrible things?“Say!” A smile slipped out from his lips. “Do you remember—no, of course you wouldn’t. It probably didn’t make the impression on you as it did on me.”I hardly dared speak. “Remember what?”“I used to think of that day a lot in POW camp(战俘营), when things weren’t too good. Do you remember the day we flew the kites?”1. Mrs. Patrick was laughing guiltily because she thought .A. she was too old to fly kitesB. her husband would make fun of herC. she should have been doing her housework thenD. her girls weren’t supposed to play the boys’ game2. By“we were all beside ourselves”, the writer means that they all .A. felt confusedB. went wild with joyC. looked onD. forgot their fights3. What did the writer think after the kite-flying?A. The boys must have had more fun than the girls.B. They should have finished their work before playing.C. Her parents should spend more time with them.D. All the others must have forgotten that day.4. Why did the writer finally agree to take her little girl for an outing?A. She suddenly remembered her duty as a mother.B. She was reminded of the day they flew kites.C. She had finished her work in the kitchen.D. She thought it was a great day to play outside.5. The youngest Patrick Boy is mentioned to show that .A. the writer was not alone in treasuring her fond memoriesB. his experience in POW camp threw a shadow over his lifeC. childhood friendship means so much to the writerD. people like him really changed a lot after the war【参考答案】1--5 、CBDBA2016高考模拟题。

Like many old towns in the forested valleys of the Northwest, Albany, Ore, has seen its share of ups and downs over the years, but when the local economy began to decline some 15 years ago, the downs seemed to outnumber the ups."Albany was changing completely. We had to find a way to reinvent ourselves," says Wendy Kirbey, the former owner of a coffee shop downtown. So in 2002,Kirbey,69,proposed (提议) a project she hoped would help her town rediscover its pride: a Victorian-style carousel (旋转木马),the animals carved by the townspeople themselves."It felt like the perfect fit for our historical town," she says. Despite a sceptical city council (议会) and a starting budget of only $ 150,Kfrbey and a handful of volunteers got to work.Ten years later, more than 300 people have spent nearly 150,000 hours on the Albany Carousel, making a lively herd of unusual creatures. Each of the 52 animals has been "adopted" by a sponsor, who oversees its creation and often adds a personal touch. The project has shown the diverse skills and creative talents of Albany (pop. 50,000). "The amazing thing about this attempt is that whenever we’ve needed something, it’s been provided for us," says Kirbey. "Somebody's aunt knows somebody's uncle who comes down to lend a hand".Kirbey says it will take two more years to complete the project. But the carousel is already working its magic. "It is our town’s No. 1 attraction," says Rod Porsche of the Albany Visitors Association. As the animals are completed, they're put on show in local hotels, restaurants and shops; people who come to see the fantastical figures around town and tour the workshop (as many as 2,000 visitors a month) are helping A lbany with its economic recovery. "I can’t imagine how great it’s going to be when the carousel is up and running," Porsche says.1. What can we learn about the carousel?A. It cost a fortune.B. It looks very modern.C. It received support from all walks of life.D. It took ten years to build.2. By saying the underlined sentence, Kirbey wants to tell us_______ .A. the townspeople are closely linkedB. it is a small worldC. uncles and aunts make great effortsD. help is at hand3. What can we infer from the last paragraph?A. Porsche has made an outstanding contribution to Albany.B. Porsche is sceptical of the town-s attractions.C. Porsche has made many friends through the project.D. Porsche thinks highly of the project.4. Twenty centimeters from her face researchers have placed a white card with two black spots on it. She stares at it carefully. A researcher removes the card and replaces it by another, this time with the spots differently spaced. As the cards change from one to the other, her gaze(凝视)starts to lose its focus--until a third, with three black spots, is presented. Her gaze returns: she looks at it for twice as long as she did at the previous card. Can she tell that the number two is different from three, just 24 hours after coming into the world? Or do newborns simply prefer more to fewer? The same experiment, but with three spots shown before two, shows the same return of interest when the number of spots changes. Perhaps it is just the newness? When slightly older babies were shown cards with pictures of objects (a comb, a key, an orange and so on), changing the number of objects had an effect separate from changing the objects themselves. Could it be the pattern that two things make, as opposed to three? No again. Babies paid more attention to squares moving randomly on a screen when their number changed from two to three, or three to two. The effect even crosses between senses. Babies who were repeatedly shown two spots became more excited when they then heard three drumbeats than when they heard just two; likewise(同样地)when the researchers started with drumbeats and moved to spots. 1.Babies are sensitive to the change in _______. A. the size of cards B. the colour of pictures C. the shape of patterns D. the number of objects 2.Why did the researchers test the babies with drumbeats? A. To reduce the difficulty of the experiment B. To see how babies recognize sounds C. To carry their experiment further D. To keep the babes interest. 3.Where does this text probably come from? - 2 -

A. Science fiction B. Children’s literature C. An advertisement D. A science report As the cards change from one to the other, her gave(凝视)starts to lose its focus-until a third, with three black spots, is presented. Her gaze returns: she looks at it for twice as long as she did at the previous card.可知当眼前黑点变成3个的时候,孩子的注意力又恢复了。故D项正确。 2.C 推理题。根据文章最后三行Babies who were repeatedly shown two spots became more excited when they then heard three drumbeats than when they heard just two; likewise(同样地)when the researchers started with drumbeats and moved to spots.

So the first lesson about working in other countries is to learn the language and by that I don't just mean the words people speak. It is body language, dress, manners, ideas and so on. The way people do things highlights many of the differences we see between cultures (文化). Some of these differences may be only on the surface—dress, food and hours of - 3 -

work—while others may be deeper and take longer to deal with. Mostly, it is just a question of getting used to the differences and accepting them, like the climate (气候),while getting on with business. Some of the differences may be an improvement. People are more polite;the service is better;you ask for something to be done and it happens without having to ask again. However, other differences can be troubling, like punctuality (准时). If you invite people to a party at 7 o'clock your guests will consider it polite to turn up exactly on time in Germany, five minutes early in the American Midwest,an hour early in Japan, 15 minutes afterwards in the UK, up to an hour afterwards in Italy and some time in the evening in Greece. I prefer not to use the word “late” because there is nothing wrong with the times people arrive. It is simply the accepted thing to do in their own country. 本文介绍了作者所感受到的文化差异。 1.
