My English Reading Experience
Before I go to college, I seldom do English reading. All I read is just the passage in reading comprehension. I can not imagine I can read a whole English book. When I get an English paper, the first thing I do is to look back. If there are Chinese in the back, I can never look at English. I can not understand information about English.
But now I am the sophomore student in college. I can understand some information about English. I can read English newspaper and English novel. I have to say my English reading improved.
When I was the freshman in college, the teacher of Reading Course told us during the college life we should read much information about English, we should read novels. At that time, I thought that is impossible for me. I am no interested in reading, and this is English reading. A large number of new words in the books, when I understand all new words, I can read the whole book. That is, I may need the whole college time to read a book. Reading Course teacher Mr. Li taught us many
reading skills, and told us how we should do when we met new words in the book. Firstly, we should guess the meaning of words. If we can guess, we don’t need to consult the dictionary. If we can not, we should go on our reading. When we finish the sentence or paragraph or passage, we can consult the dictionary. When we do reading, we can’t consult the dictionary as soon as we read the words we don’t know. That is not the good habits in reading. Mr. Li also told us lots of good reading habits. And we can start our reading from easy books.
According to the way Mr. Li taught, I begin to read English novel. I can’t imagine that I can read English book. I am excited.
During the two years in college, I have read some books, such as “The Old Man and The Sea”and “Tess”and so on. And sometimes I also read newspaper to get information, such as 21st century.。
