2014年5月28日,“美国最耀眼的黑人传记女作家”玛雅·安吉洛(Maya Angelou)去世,享年86岁。
1928年4月4日,安吉洛出生于美国密苏里州圣路易斯市,原名玛格丽特·约翰逊。
作者3岁时因父母离异,兄妹俩被送到阿肯色州的小镇斯坦普斯跟随祖母生活。
13岁时,她和哥哥重新回到母亲身边。
高中期间,安吉洛到旧金山劳工学校学习舞蹈与戏剧表演。
16岁时,她成了一名单身母亲。
这些经历对安吉洛的人生和创作产生了深远的影响。
其代表作《我知道笼中鸟儿为何歌唱》讲述了一个黑人女性艰辛的成长历程,描述了生活在最底层的作者不屈不挠的抗争,也让人们看到了整个黑人与女性群体在美国的生存状态。
