2 我们把数据加以简化和归类,得出的结论很明确:学生打工付出的代价很大。

总的来说,我们的研究证明,每周打工超过20 个小时的学生学习成绩不及班上其他同学。

3 但是,我们也发现了另外一种不同的模式。

每周打工大约10个小时或更少的时间对学习成绩似乎没有持续的影响。

不过,鉴于一半的大四打工学生、约三分之一的大三打工学生以及约五分之一的大二打工学生的打工时间都超过20个小时的上限,由此表明,有很多学生面临因打工而危及学业的风险。

4 虽说一开始确实是学习兴趣不大的学生更容易长时间地打工,但是打工看起来会让他们原本勉强的学习状况变得更糟。

换言之,随着时间的推移,学生打工时间越长,他们对学习的投入就越少。

但是,当学生退出打工队伍或者减少打工时间后,结果也引人注目:他们对学习的兴趣被重新激发起来。

所以,这是个好消息,即打工对学习的负面影响并非是永久性的。

5 我们发现了打工对学生学习参与度产生负面影响的很多种原因。

首先,由于紧张的打工日程,打工的学生用来完成学校作业的时间就减少了。

面临这样的时间压力,打工学生一个普遍的应付办法就是偷懒,比如选择较容易的课程、抄袭其他学生的作业、逃课或者不做老师布置的作业。

时间一长,当这些变成习以为常的做法以后,学生对学习的投入也就一点一点地减少。

几百盏灯把澳大利亚体育场照得灯光火通明,场内的声音震耳欲聋。

走向跑道时我看了一眼四周看台上无数的脸,但我的注意力还是很集中。

再过几分钟奥运金牌的归属就要见分晓了,它悬挂在远处,很诱人。

我的心在剧烈地跳动,口干舌燥,肾上腺素猛增。

童年的梦想就要实现了,这种感觉真是太奇妙了:令人非常兴奋,又胆战心惊。

我知道,为了确保能梦想成真我必须强迫自己超越已知的极限。

我极力保持镇静,告诫自己不要紧张,要坚持按原计划做,按自己的节奏跑。

”我知道,如果一个人不是从小就接触某项外来的运动,他就很难对它感兴趣。

现在我正遭遇同样的文化壁垒。

6月9号世界杯足球赛就要开始了,而我对球员在“球场”上干些什么却一无所知。

看起来这是给这个所谓的精彩赛事揭短的一次大好机会。

我看足球也有好几年了,我所看到的就是22个穿着短裤的成年人在场上疯狂地奔跑,力争踢到球,互相绊倒对方。

我猜想他们的目的是要把球踢进网里(也叫球门),可是,如果不是碰巧的话,球是很难靠近球门的。

看起来,我们现在谈论的是一项靠运气取胜的运动。

整整一个半小时,球场上一片混乱:球飞来飞去,球迷们在哼着一首悲伤的曲子,让人想起纳布卡的“奴隶合唱团”。

双方队员好像都失控了。

记分法说明了一切:多数球赛都是以0-0、1-0或2-1结束,这意味着球赛结果倾向于平局,如果比赛结束时一方胜出了,那只是因为他们运气好。

高尔夫球和网球是一种乡村俱乐部运动,玩起来比较费钱,而且拥有自己的社交结构;赛马对那些喜欢赌博的人有吸引力,而赛车则吸引了大批喜欢汽车噪音、威猛及其危险性的中部美国人。

不过,篮球是城市的运动。

它不仅仅是一项运动,它是生活方式的一部分。

美国中部小城镇的孩子常常是靠学会以熟练的技巧精准投篮最终成为优秀的球员的;但是在大城市里,孩子们开发的是“行动”,仿佛篮球是表现男子汉气概和个性的方式,也几乎成了年轻人帮派文化的一部分。

如果说其他年轻运动员是在学打篮球的话,那么城市青年则是生活在篮球之中。
