The invasion of the Disney movie HuaMulan
My disertation is the study of c.i. reflected in the disney movie of HuaMulan. First of all, we must face such a fact, that is c.i. is going on.. with the world’s advances in science and techonology, we are losing our nation’s traditional culture gradually. The disapparence of national borders and the establishment of a world interconnected by markets will deal a death blow to our regional and nationa culture.
Although the phrase c.i. is not new, the related research in our country is neither mature, nor comprehensive. Therefore, this essay has made a pround discussion about it and through elaborating the definitions of c., c.i. and analyzing the current state of cultural invasion on a global scale, it divideds the c.i. into two kinds: apparent c.i. and unapparent c.i. by the degree of whether it can be discovered easily or not. A.c.i., as its literal meaning, means the cultural invasion is done in an apparent way. That means a country invades other countries culturally by using its native festivals, attire, customs, ceremonies, beliefs and soon. For example, it seems to be out of fashion that if we don’t celebrate Chrismas day, Saint Valentine’s day, or eat KFC, Mc donalds etc. none of these things are native to our own traditional culture, but come from western countries, especially from the U.S.. howeer, such kind of c.i. is more easily to be found by people, and becoming vigilant. So we should pay more attention to una.c.i., which is difficult tobe preceived. Because it is a fully armed brand-new one, that no longer uses the external culture as a bait, but advocates its unique values to the whole world through the invaded country’s own traditional culture.
This paper takes the disney movie huamulan as an example, which is precisely a typical representative of this una.c.i., to investigate the influence of c.i. on our country. It studies una.c.i. in this movie at two levels: one is surface level, that is, the invaders only changed other countries’traditional culture at surface level and didn’t deepen into the spirit or central part of that culture. Such as the movie huamulan, the appearances of these traditional chinese figures had already been changed to quite American as well as their language. The other is deep lefel, which means the invaders not only changed our traditional culture at surface level, but also has the ambition to instill their religion and beliefs into our mind, in order to control us by a hiding chain.
Although this movie was adapted from the chinese traditional story, combined with many western style elements, has the typical hollywood movie’s characteristic.
The study exposes western super powers’primary purpose of advocating their unique values to the world by media of movies, aiming that it can recall the caution of people, and remind them not to become the victims of western cultural invasion.。
