Ram Preventers:
Ram preventers can be fitted with four types of ram: a) pipe rams; b) variable-bore rams; c) blind rams; and d) shear rams. Pipe Rams: Pipe rams are designed to close around a particular size of drill pipe, tubing or casing. Two steel ram blocks containing semi-circular openings with each ram being fitted with a two-piece rubber seal provide the pack-off. Annular Preventers:
Annular BOP’s are designed to shut off around any size and shape of equipment run through the hole. Thus, annular preventers can close around drill pipe, drill collars and casing, and also pack off an open hole. An annular preventer is, therefore, the well’s master valve and is to normally closed first in the event of a well kick, owing to flexibility of the closing rubbers. The main components of the annular preventers include a-) steel body; b-) operating piston; c-) opening and closing chambers; and d-) a ring of reinforced synthetic rubber having a high tensile strength. The rubber is molded around a series of flagged steel ribs, as shown. The rubber rings can be squeezed to engage drill pipe, tubing or casing and to provide an annular seal around the pipe. 1.0.0 Definitions
1.0.1 Influx The flow of fluids from bottom into the well bore. 1.0.2 Kick Any influx or flow of formation fluid into the well-bore is termed as Kick. It may occur any time during drilling/ initial testing or work-over operation due to formation fluid pressure being greater than the bottom hole pressure. 1.0.3 Blowout If the kick is uncontrolled, the formation fluid will flow to the surface is termed as Blow-out. 1.0.4 Pore Pressure Pore Pressure is the pressure acting on the fluids in the pore spaces in the rock, is known as Formation pressure also. This is the portion of the overburden supported by the formation fluid. 1.0.5 Hydrostatic pressure Pressure exerted by the fluid column at a certain depth is termed as Hydrostatic Pressure. 1.0.6 Bottom hole pressure (BHP) Sum of all pressures that are being exerted at the bottom of the hole and can be written as: BHP = Static pressure + Dynamic pressure Fracture Pressure The pressure required to initiate a fracture in a sub surface formation. Nippling up diverter onshorePolicyA class D diverter stack shall be installed on the conductor and/or next casing string for all exploration wells and development wells in the shallow gas area of areas where offset data indicates shallow gas wells.All other onshore areas do not need a diverter.In addition,this diverter stack will also be required on the conductor of all offshore exploration wells and wells where offset data indicates possible shallow gas.The diverter lines shall consist of Schedule40steel piping.This line shall be securely anchored and terminate in the reserve pit or overboard.Saudi Aramco requires two6”minimum ID,full bore valves and10”lines.All lines must be as straight as possible and all turns targeted to minimize erosion.The emergency pump in connection shall every14days,at the same time the BOP equipment is pressure tested,and at any other time deemed necessary by the Saudi Aramo Foreman.the results shall be noted on the Saudi Aramco BOP Pressure Test Report(see Test Form).To analyse the performance of the accumulator,the results of recharge time indicates an immediate need for a thorough examination of the accumulator*Record the accumulator capacity and useable volume*Record the accumulator pressure*Record the pre-charge pressure and last date checked*Record the closing and opening times for each componentNOTE:Alternate accumulator bi-weekly tests between the main nitrogen unit(with charging system isolated)and air/electric back-up system(with bottle banks isolated).Preventer functions should also be operated remotely to insure proper operation of all functions from the remote stations.The accumulator test shall also comply Saudi Aramco`s general requirements as follows: *Closing time for ram preventers should not exceed30seconds*Closing time for annular preventers(less than18-3/4”)should not exceed30seconds*Closing time for annular preventers(18-3/4”and larger)should not exceed45seconds *The accumulator must have enough stored fluid under pressure to close all preventers,open the choke hydraulic control gate valve(HCR),and retain50%of the calculated closing volume with a minimum of200psi above pre-charge pressure,without assistance of the accumulator pumps.*The accumulator-backup system shall be automatic,supplied by a power source independent from the power source to the primary accumulator-charging system,and possess sufficient capability to close all blowout components and hold them closed.。
