We can make mistakes at any age. Some mistakes we make are about money. But most mistakes are about people. “Did Jerry really care when I broke up with Helen?” “When I got that great job, did

Jim really feel good about it, as a friend? Or did he envy(嫉妒) my luck?” When we look back, doubts

like these can make us feel bad. And when we look back it seems too late.

Why do we go wrong about our friends--or our enemies? Sometimes what people say hides their real meaning. And if we don’t r eally listen, we miss the meaning behind the words. Suppose someone

tells you, “you are a lucky dog.” Is he really on your side? If he says, “You’re a lucky guy (家伙),” or “You’re a lucky gal(小姐),” that’s being friendly. But “lucky dog” there is a bit of en vy in those words.

Maybe he doesn’t see it himself .But bringing in the “dog” puts you down a little. What he is saying is that he doesn’t think you are worthy of your luck.

How can you tell the real meaning behind someone’s words? One way is to take a goo d look at the person’s talking. Do his words fit the way he looks? Does what he says fit in with the tone of voice?

His posture (姿势)? The minute you spend thinking about the real meaning of what people say to you

may save another mistake.

64.In the first paragraph , the writer .

A.feels sorry that his friends do not understand him

B.feels happy thinking of how nice his friends were to him

C.thinks it a mistake to have broken up with his friend Helen

D.feels he may not have “read” his friends’ feelings correctly

65.The writer tries to tell us how we can .

A.make no mistakes about money and friends

B.keep people friendly without trusting them

C.make fewer mistakes in understanding what people tell you

D.keep as many friends as possible through talking with them carefully

66.When listening to a person , it is important to .

A.doubt anything he says

B.listen to how he pronounces his words

C.check whether his words are against his manners

D.notice his tone, his posture and the look in his eyes

67.By asking the underlined questions ( paragraph3 ) the writer means to .

A.give the readers the ways to get the real meaning of a speaker

B.show the readers the questions that the writer cannot answer

C.check whether the reader can understand him completely

D.prepare what the writer is going to say after the text

From:**********************

Subject: Complaint

Dear Mr. Price,

I have eaten in your restaurant many times and have always been happy with the food and service. This makes what happened last Saturday even more disappointing.

It was my son’s birthday so we booked a non-smoking table at your restaurant for 7:30 p.m. We arrived on time but were told that our table was not yet ready. At 8:00 p.m., we were given a table in the smoking section. I asked to move but I was told that there were no other tables. A lot of people were smoking so it was uncomfortable and unhealthy.

Our first waitress, Janet, was very polite and helpful. She gave us free drinks for waiting so long. Our food also came quickly and looked fresh and tasty. When my wife had eaten most of her meal, she found a dead cockroach (蟑螂) in her vegetables. She was shocked and wanted to leave. At first, the waitress told us it was a piece of garlic. When we told her that garlic does not have legs, she apologized and took the food away.

We asked for the bill, expecting not to pay for my wife’s meal. Nobody came. After 15 minutes, I asked to see the manager. The head waiter told us that you were on holiday I complained again about the horrible cockroach. He told me Janet had finished work. He didn’t believe my story and gave me a bill for three meals. I argued with him but was forced to pay.

The waitress, Janet, was always friendly, but I would like an apology from your impolite head waiter and a full repayment for our meal. It cost $68. Until then, I will not be eating at your restaurant or recommending it to anyone.

You can contact me at 742-3254 or through e-mail if you want more information.

Thank you for your attention.

Yours Sincerely,

Raymond Yuen

Having one of those days –or weeks –when everything seems to annoy you? Even if you do nothing about it, your bad mood will probably go away after some time. But with a little effort, you can

forget it much faster—often within a day or two.

※Walk it off

Exercise is the most popular bad-mood buster. A person who’s in a bad mood has low energy and high tension. Taking a fast ten-minute walk, or doing some quick exercises can do wonders towards changing that bad mood.

※Tune it out

Listening to your favorite music for a while can also make tensions go away quickly, because music starts association with pas t positive experiences we’ve had.

※Give yourself a pep talk

Stop and listen to what’s on your mind. Bad moods are often started by too many negative

thoughts. Write them all down on paper , the pessimistic(悲观的) messages you’ve been giving

yourself and then give optimistic answers. (“I still don’t have a job.” vs. “I have two interviews next week.”)

※Reduce your stress

Relaxation techniques are wonderful mood-lifters. These include deep breathing, stretching and visualizing (想象),all of which sound complica ted but aren’t. One easy way to visualize: close your eyes and picture a favorite place, such as the beach. Another simple way to distress is to make a to-do list .One reason for being in a bad mood is feeling you have no options (选择). By taking control over

certain areas, you realize you’re not helpless. You can make changes in your mood and life.

※Avoid things that won’t improve your mood

TV may not help much: you need to increase your energy level and stimulate (刺激) your

mind—something that the TV s how “Neighbors” won’t do. And before you reach for that piece of cake and coffee, think about how mood and food are linked. Sugar and caffeine contribute to depressed moods. The better choice? Research shows that carbohydrates, such as potatoes and pasta, produce a calming effects in people who have a desire for them.

72.We learn from the text that it might help us stop a bad mood to .

A.do nothing about it B.do some exercise with light music

C.take a long walk on the beach D.talk it to neighbors

73.Why is it suggested that you close your eyes and picture the beach?

A.It is not complicated to do so. B.It is an area to be easily controlled.

C.It helps beat a bad mood. D.It brings us a new technique.

74.TV may not improve your mood because .

A.it sometimes shows what happens around you

B.it does not energize you

C.it reminds you of eating and drinking

D.it produces a calming effect

75.Which would be the best title of this passage?

A.Bad mood and our life B.How bad mood affects our character?

C.Bad mood and stress D.How to beat a bad mood

Dear Editor,

I’m a senior high student. Now many students use mobile phones .They think it’s a fashion to use mobile phones .Besides ,it’s very convenient to get in touch with their families and friends by using mobile phones. But some students break the rules in class. They bring their mobile phones to the classroom and we often hear the ring of mobile phones in class. Some of them even waste precious time in class typing short messages on the mobile phones .

In my opinion ,the classroom is a place for students to gain knowledge .Therefore quietness is badly needed for us to learn our lessons .Those with mobile phones shouldn’t take mobile phones to the classroom . We are supposed to concentrate on our studies. The school should make a rule to forbid the students to use mobile phones in the classroom.

Yours sincerely

A.the; a B./; the C.the; the D./; a 二、阅读理解 The world is filled with smart, talented, educated and gifted people. We meet them every day.A few days ago,my car was not running well.I pulled it into a garage, and the young mechanic had it fixed in just a few minutes. He knew what was wrong by simply listening to the engine.I was a mazed. The sad truth is that great talent is not enough. I am constantly shocked at how little talented people earn.I heard the other day that less than 5 percent of Americans earn more than $100,000 a year.A business consultant who specializes in the medical, trade told me how many doctors and dentists struggled financially. It was this business consultant who gave me the phrase,“They are one skill away from great wealth.” There is an old saying that goes,“Job means ‘just over brok e (破产)’.” And unfortunately,I would say that the saying applies to millions of people.Because school does not think financial intelligence is intelligence, and most workers “live_within_their_means”.They work and they pay the bills.Instead I recommend young people to seek work for what they will learn, more than what they will earn. When I ask the class I teach,“How many of you can cook a better hamhurger than McDonald’s?” almost all the students raise their hands.I then ask,“So if most of you can cook a bett er hamburger, how come McDonald’s makes more money than you?” The answer is obvious:McDonald’s is excellent at business systems. The reason why so many talented people are poor is that they focus on making a better hamburger but know little or nothing about business systems. The world is filled with talented poor people. They focus on perfecting their skills at making a better hamburger rather than the skills of selling and delivering the hamburger. 【1】The author mentions the mechanic in the first paragraph to show that________. A.he is just one of the talented people B.he is ready to help others C.he has a sharp sense of hearing D.he knows little about car repairing 【2】The underlined part in the third paragraph can be best replaced by “________”. A.spend more than they can afford B.do in their own way

The relatively traffic-free roads mean that there is little trouble in getting out of the town and into the hills. Girona’s old town itself is a beauty and with plenty of places serving great food and great coffee, there’s a certain magic to the place. Algarve,Portugal Portugal is a cycling destination that has grown in popularity thanks to the large variety of roads in the country. It is not too dissimilar to what you’ll find in the most popular cycling regions, but Portugal just feels that little bit less main stream. Away from the bike, there is also plenty of food to sink your teeth into and local wines to try. Northern Scotland,UK One of the best places to tour in all of Europe is in fact Scotland. Particularly adventurous cyclists can take advantage of Scotland’s rules on wild camping-Scottish law allows members of the public the right to roam(漫游),while English law does not. It’s a totally liberating way to explore a place and Scotland might just be one of the best ones to do it due to the beautiful scenery and rural landscapes. A great destination for mountain bikers and road cyclists alike, the country has plenty of brilliant off-road routes and rideable, tricky roads that take you high up into the Julian Alps. It’s no surprise once you’ve ridden here that the country punches well above its
