浙江高考英语阅读冲刺练习题原文Forces other than damaging winds are also at work inside tornadoes(龙卷风). Sometimes, asthe wind passes a house, the walls and ceiling burst apart as if a bomb had gone off inside. This explosion is caused by the low air pressure at the center of a tornado. The pressure at the center of a tornado is usually 13 pounds per square inch. However, inside the house the air pressure is normal, about 15 pounds per square inch. The difference of2 pounds per square inch between the inside and outside pressure may not seem like much. But suppose a tornado passes over a small building that measures 20 by 10 by 10 feet. Oneach square inch ofthe building, there is 2 pounds of pressure from the inside that is notbalanced by air pressure outside the building. On the ceiling, that adds up to an unbalancedpressure of 57600 pounds. The pressure of the four walls adds up to 172800 pounds. If windows are open in the building, some of the inside air will rush out through them. Thiswill balance the pressure inside and outside the building. But if the windows are shut tightly, the huge inside pressure may cause the building to burst.Unfortunately, heavy rain often occurs in the storms that later produce tornadoes, sopeople often shut their windows. This may cause far worse damage later.浙江高考英语阅读冲刺练习题1.What did the paragraph before this passage most probably discuss?A. Measuring rainfall from a stormB. The powerful winds of tornadoes.C. 第20练阅读理解+语法填空+写作Ⅰ.阅读理解AThere is a very instructive incident involving the life of Alexander the Great,King of Greek.Alexander, after conquering many kingdoms, was returning home.On the way,he fell ill and it took him to his death bed. With death staring him in his face,Alexander realized his conquests, his great army, his sharp sword and all his wealth were of no consequence. So,he lay helplessly waiting to breathe his last.He called his generals and said,“I will depart from this world soon, and I have three wishes. Please carry them out without fail.”“My first desire is that,” said Alexander,“my physicians alone must carry my coffin.” After a pause,he continued,“Secondly,I desire that when my coffin is being carried to the grave, the path leading to the graveyard be strewn(撒满) with gold, silver and precious stones which I have collected.” The King continued,“My third and last wish is that both my hands should be kept hanging out of my coffin.” Alexander’s favorite general kissed his hand and pressed t hem to his heart.“Oh King,we assure you that your wishes will all be fulfilled. But tell us why do you make such strange wishes?”Alexander took a deep breath and said,“I would like the world to know of the three lessons I have just learnt.I want my physicians to carry my coffin because people should realize that no doctor can really cure any bodies. They are powerless and cannot save a person from the clutches of death. So let people not take life for granted.”The second wish of strewing gold, silver and other riches on the way to the graveyard is to tell people that not even a bit of gold will come with me.I spent all my life earning riches but cannot take anything with me.Let people realize that it is just a waste of time to chase wealth. And about my third wish of having my hands hanging out of the coffin,I wish people to know that I came empty-handed into this world and empty-handed out of this world. With these words, the King closed his eyes.Soon he let death conquer him and breathed his last.【语篇解读】本文主要讲述了亚历山大大帝临死前的三个愿望和他想传达给人们的一些启示。

Week 9TuesdayTask 1:阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

(2012·浙江,D)As a young boy,I sometimes traveled the country roads with my dad.He was a rural mail carrier, and on Saturdays he would ask me to go with him.Driving through the countryside was always an adventure:There were animals to see, people to visit, and chocolate cookies if you knew where to stop, and Dad did.In the spring,Dad delivered boxes full of baby chickens, and when I was a boy it was such fun to stick your fingers through one of the holes of the boxes and let the baby birds peck on your fingers. On Dad’s final day of work,it took him well into the evening to complete his rounds because at least one member from each family was waiting at their mailbox to thank him for his friendship and his years of service.“Two hundred and nineteen mailboxes on my route,”he used to say,“and a story at every one.”One lady had no mailbox,so Dad took the mail in to her every day because she was nearly blind.Once inside,he read her mail and helped her pay her bills.Mailboxes were sometimes used for things other than mail. One note left in a mailbox read,“Nat,take these eggs to Marian;she’s baking a cake and doesn’t have any eggs.”Mailboxes might be buried in the snow,or broken,or lying on the ground, but the mail was always delivered. On cold days Dad might find one of his customers waiting for him with a cup of hot chocolate.A young girl wrote letters but had no stamps,so she left a few buttons on the envelope in the mailbox;Dad paid for the stamps. One businessman used to leave large amounts of cash in his mailbox for Dad to take to the bank.Once, the amount came to $32,000.A dozen years ago, when I traveled back to my hometown on the sad occasion of Dad’s death, the mailboxes along the way reminded me of some of his stories.I thought I knew them all,but that wasn’t the case.As I drove home,I noticed two lamp poles, one on each side of the street. When my dad was around, those poles supported wooden boxes about four feet off the ground. One box was painted green, and the other was red,and each had a long narrow hole at the top with white lettering:SANTA CLAUS,NORTH POLE.For years children had dropped letters to Santa through those holes.I made a turn at the corner and drove past the post office and across the railroad tracks to our house.Mom and I were sitting at the kitchen table when I heard footsteps. There,at the door, stood Frank Townsend,Dad’s postmaster and great friend for many years. So we all sat down at the table and began to tell stories. At one point Frank looked at me with tears in his eyes.“What are we going to do about the letters this Christmas?”he asked.“The letters?”“I guess you never knew.”“Knew what?”“Remember, when you were a kid and you used to put your letters to Santa in those green and red boxes on Main Street? It was your dad who answered all those letters every year.”I just sat there with tears in my eyes.It wasn’t hard for me to imagine Dad sitting at the old oak table in our basement reading those letters and answering each one.I have since spoken with several of the people who received Christmas letters during their childhood, and they told me how amazed they were that Santa had known so much about their homes and families. For me,just knowing that story about my father was the gift of a lifetime.【语篇解读】本文是一篇记叙文,作者叙述了父亲是一个邮递员,他关爱他人,有着崇高的职业精神。

一、2022学年第二学期浙江省名校协作体试题高三年级英语学科(人与人师生情)LESSONS LEARNED OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOMMr. Gray was my history teacher in tenth grade.I couldn't tell what kind of history he taught for two reasons: one, I never liked history, and two, my body was in class, but my mind wasn't. Mr. Gray wasn't the teacher who offered retakes (补考)on tests; he did so much more for me than that. He offered me a pair of ears and a shoulder to cry on.Before Mr. Gray came along, one major event was taking place in my life. My mom told me she wanted to divorce my dad. Why then? I didn't understand. I barricaded(筑起壁垒)myself in my basement bedroom, listening to angry music and sleeping.I fell into a depression and my grades were falling. Then there was Mr.Gray.I sat against a brick wall outside the library, knees pulled into my chest, head down, surrounded by my noisy friends that I was slowly distancing myself from, when I heard his voice:“Ever feel like you're a fire hydrant(消防栓)and every dog in the neighborhood is stopping by to visit you?”I picked my head up and then I saw Mr.Gray.I had heard him use this line in the classroom a few times before, when it looked like a kid was having a bad day. It usually aroused a laugh and ended there. This time was different though—he was waiting for an answer. Next thing I knew I was following him into the library. We sat amongst the shelves of the mostly empty library for the rest of lunchtime.I don't remember much about that first conversation other than the unconditional promise he made me of lending a pair of ears and a shoulder to cry on. What made him such a special teacher was that he saw that I was struggling and reached out to me outside of the classroom.注意:1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右:2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。

高考压轴冲刺练九限时40分钟Ⅰ. 阅读理解 Speed reading is a necessary and vital skill in the Internet age. We skim over articles, e-mails and tweets to try to grasp key words andthe essential meaning of the text. With so much information available through our electronic devices, it would be impossible toget through everything if we read word by word, line by line. But a new trend calls on people to unplug and enjoy reading slowly, one which claims to have benefits beyond intellectual stimulation. A recent story from The Wall Street Journal reported on a book club in Wellington, New Zealand, where members meet in a cafe and turn off their smart phones. They sink into comfortable chairs and read in silence for an hour. Unlike typical book clubs, the point of the slow reading club isn’t to exchange ideas about certain books, but to get away from electronic devices and read in a quiet, relaxed environment. According to the story, the Wellington book club is just one example of a movement started by book lovers who miss the traditional way of reading. Traditional readers, like Maura Kelly, say a regular reading habit sharpens the mind, improves concentration, reduces stress levels and deepens the ability to understand others. Some of these benefits have been backed up by science. For example, a study of 300 elderly people published by the journal Neurology last year showed that mature people who take part in activities that use their brain, such as reading, suffer less memory loss as they get older. Another study published last year in Science showed that reading novels helps people understand others’ mental states and beliefs—a key skill in building relationships. Yet technology has made us less careful readers. Computer and phone screens have changed our reading patterns from the top-to-bottom, left-to-right reading order we traditionally used, to a wild skimming and skipping pattern as we hunt for important words and information. Reading text online that has many links to other web pages also leads to weaker comprehension than reading plain text. The Internet may have made us stupider, says British journalist Patrick Kingsley, only half joking. Because of the Internet, he claims we have become very good at collecting a wide range of factual tidbits, but we are also gradually forgetting how to sit back, think and relate all these facts to each other.【文章大意】这是一篇说明文。
