But a new study sugges ts that getting more exercise and sleep may help people bette r cope with them by leaving them at work, where they belong. Previous research shows that employees who are looked dow n on or insulted by colleagues are likely to express their frustr ations and behave angrily toward people outside of work, say s study co-author Shannon Taylor, a management professor at the Unive rsity of Central Florida's College of Business. The new study backs up this idea, but offers a bit of good new s as well: Employees who averaged more than 10, 500 steps a day or burned at least 2, 100 calories were less likely to mistreat their cohabitants than those who averaged fewer steps o r burned fewer calories. The findings also revealed that when employees felt they had a bad night's sleep because of work issues, they were more li kely to be grouchy at home. "When you're tired, you are either less able or less motivated to regulate yourself." says co-author Larissa Barber, a professor of psychology at Northern I llinois University.Physical activity seems to counterbalance poor sleep, Barber says, because it promotes healthy brain functions needed to p roperly regulate emotions and behaviors. "This study suggest s that high amounts of exercise can be at least one way to im prove the situations brought by sleep troubles that lead to neg ative behaviors at home, "she says.Barber acknowledges that finding time to work out and get a f ull night’s sleep can be difficult when work pressure is mounti ng, and that often, job stress can be directly related to sleep q uality. But, she says, making the effort to burn some extra cal ories and blow off some steam can be worth it. It's not only go od for you, says Taylor, but it can benefit the people live with.28. What does the underlined word "they" in Paragraph 1 refe r to?A. Loved people at home B Negative emotions.C. Different work pressures. D More exercise and sleep29. The amount of calories employees burn affects the frequen cy of losing temper.DGoogle, one of the world's outstanding tech companies, was attacked. It wasn’t its search engine that was attacked or its a dvertising platform or even its social network, Google+. Instea d, it was a building. Two web security experts hacked (侵入) into its Wharf 7 office in Sydney, Australia through Google s building management system (BMS). One of them, Billy Rio s, says, My colleague and I have a lot of experience in web se curity, but it is not something that people couldn't learn. Once you understand how the system works,it is very sim ple.”They found the system on Shodan, a search engine that lists devices connected to the Internet, and then ran it through thei r own software to identify who owned the building. In the case of the Google hacking, the researchers had no immoral purp ose and just informed Google about what they found. According to Mr. Rios, who runs security company Whitescop e, there are 50,000 buildings currently connected to the Intern et, including research institutes, churches and hospitals, and 2, 000 of those are online with no password protection. Marty n Thomas, a professor of IT at Gresham College in the UK, sa ys, "It is beyond doubt that attempts to attack building management systems are happening all the time.”Making a building smart generally means connecting the syst ems that control heating, lighting and security to the Internet a nd the wider corporate network. There was a strong reason fo r doing this, said Andrew Kelly, principal security consultant at defence company Qinetiq.Energy savings are the biggest factor in connecting building management systems to the corporate network, he says. "It gi ves those who run the building better control and offers betwe en 20% to 50% in energy savings, "he adds. But it also makes them less secure. And if any of these feels li ke a Hollywood film, think again.32. How did Billy Rios and his colleague hack Googles buildin g?A. They invented a search engine and connected it to Google s building.B. They worked for Google and mastered how the building wo rked.C. They used Google's BMS to find out the owner of the buildi ng.D. They connected their own software to the building to run G oogle.33. AFrom American Express, wedding guests will,on average, spend $673 on each wedding they attend this year. It includes airfare ($225), hotel ($170), dining out ($116) and dressing up ($95) and the gift. If you have weddings to attend this year, here are some tips for you to avoid breaking the bank.1. Book flights in advanceThe moment you decide to attend a wedding is the time to check flight prices at the best time. Plane fares are higher in the summer, especially in July and August. Booking in advance will save you money, as will watch for sales on lower-cost carriers like JetBlue and Frontier. You can check Google Flights for a calendar of prices showing the cheapest days to fly from apps like Hopper to get real-time alerts when a fare is at its lowest price point.2. Don't blow your budget on the giftIf you've got the money, an expensive gift is lovely. But there's no need to take out loans to prove your love for the happy couple. Skip an expensive necklace by giving (an appropriate amount of) cash instead. To save on the gift, consider making one: A photo album or scrapbook of memories with the bride and groom shows how much you care. You could also share the gift with other guest(s) or even make gifts with DIY ideas by yourself to save money.3. Use old dresses and suitsYou don't always have to be on a new dress for a wedding. While men have the option of repeating their suits, women are more likely to spend money on new clothes for the special occasion. But before you take out your wallet, consider reinventing something already in yourcloset. Belts, colorful scarves, shoes can bring life to any outfit.21. How much does a wedding guest spend on the gift on average?A. $673B. $225C. $67D. $9522. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?A. People always wear their new clothes at the wedding.B. Men are more likely to wear new clothes to attend a wedding.C. It saves you money to creatively wear old clothes.D. Ladies tend to wear their favorite suits for a wedding.23. What is the purpose of the passage?A. To help people save money while holding their weddings.B. To give some tips on saving money to attend a wedding.C. To introduce general expenses of attending a wedding.D. To state some aspects to be considered while holding weddings.BIt had been a long winter. Bitter cold, snowy days had hit us again and again. On the warmer days there had been little sunshine, but only cold, icy rain. The sun had become such a rare sight that I had to look at a picture of it on my wall calendar from time to time to remember what it looked like. The grass had remained brown and dormant(潜伏的)in the grassland. My own backyard had turned into a muddy mess that tried to steal the shoes right off my feet as I walked on it. My heart ached and longed for spring, and my own good cheer had trouble rising up against the continuous, cold, gray days. The rain poured down on me as I walked my dogs, holding their leashes in my icy fingers. I looked up at the sky hoping to see the sun smiling down with its warm, golden face. But it was no use. It was then, however, that I saw it. It wasn’t the smiling face of the sun in the sky but a little, yellow face peeking(微露出) through the mud. It was a tiny flower, and it filled my heart with hope and joy. I smiled and thanked God for this little sign that winter would soon be over and that spring would arrive. I felt my good cheer rising up at last and I promised God that I would share it with everyone I could. One day that tiny flower’s seeds will fill the grassland with little, yellow faces smiling up from the ground. Its work will make this world a better and more beautiful place. May we all do the same. May we all shine our light and share our love even on the coldest and grayest days. May we all help to share a bit of spring in winter. May we all work to make this world better and brighter even when it is at its darkest.24. Why did the author look at a picture of sun on a wall calendar from time to time?A. Because she hadn’t seen sunshine for a long time.B. Because she wanted to check how long the cold winter would last.C. B ecause she couldn’t go out.D. Because she looked forward to spring.25. The author felt _______ before she found the tiny flower.A. worriedB. angryC. hopefulD. frustrated26. What can be inferred from the passage?A. The tiny flo wer was found in the author’s backyard.B. The tiny flower inspired the author very much.C. The author would share the tiny flower with others.D. The author would never mind the cold weather.27. What can be the best title of the passage?A. A Cold WinterB. A Tiny flowerC. Sharing Makes the WorldD. Hopes Make Our LifeCChinese has overtaken French, Spanish and German to become one of the most promising foreign languages for job seekers in the UK. Research shows graduates in Chinese earn an average yearly salary of 31,000 pounds or more.Chinese students set themselves up for a different university experience from others who take traditional subjects. While an English student may have as little as six hours of a week, those studying Chinese are in class for most of the day.“I had a lot of friends on other courses who didn’t do much in first or second year. You can’t play at Chinese. You have to spend hours and hours writing characters,” says Hannah, who graduated in Chinese Studies from Sheffield University.“The first year was really difficult. Most of my friends admitted at one point to crying because of the pressure. I was almost told at one point that I might want to reconsider and drop out.”So are the evenings in learning characters while your friends are at the student bar really worth it? Despite the painful studying experience, most of the graduates think so. They use Chinese in their chosen careers, and would not have been in the jobs they do now without their knowledge of the language.Liberty now works for the civil service in Beijing. She earned a place on the Department for International Development graduate scheme with a salary of over 30,000 pounds within two years.“The degree was absolutely worth it.Looking around at people I know who have studied French or Spanish at university, there’s not such a chance to use it in the workplace.”Hannah has set her apart in the workplace, but she warns ambitious students to think about whether they would really want to live in China in the future before setting their sights on a profitable career path. “Some people think they are going to learn Chinese and then be a big success, but I think it’s important to be quite realistic about that.”28. What does the underlined phrase “play at” probably mean in Paragraph 2?A. Treat seriouslyB. Learn lazilyC. Talk amusinglyD. Cheat cleverly29. What can you learn from Liberty’s and Hannah’s career experience?A. Chinese degree helped them to find satisfying jobs.B. There are students learning characters at the student bar.C. Graduates with French or Spanish degree have no chance to find jobs.D. By learning Chinese, people are to have a successful career.30. What’s Hannah’s a ttitude to choosing Chinese as a possible career?A. DoubtfulB. IndifferentC. PuzzledD. Objective31. What is the main idea of the text?A. Many foreign college students come to China to seek jobs.B. Some college students consider dropping out Chinese because of its pressure.C. Chinese is difficult and college students should be realistic about choosing it.D. Chinese degree needs painful working, but it is worthy in job seeking.DThe world's oceans are sick, and getting sicker every day. Two new studies show the warming of Earth's atmosphere is removing oxygen from ocean waters.Oxygen is necessary for all life in the oceans, except for a few extremely small organisms. And researchers said oxygen levels are low enough to threaten all the ocean life that depends on it.Denise Breitburg is an ocean scientist at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. She is also a member of the Global Ocean Oxygen Network, a team of scientists organized by the United Nations to study the issue. She told the Associated Press, "If you can't breathe, nothing else matters. That pretty much describes it ."Scientists with the Global Ocean Oxygen Network reported that more than 32 million square kilometers of ocean are low in oxygen. These affected areas reach a depth of about 200 meters. This area is bigger than Africa, the second largest continent. The scientists say the area of low oxygen levels has grown about 16 percent since 1950.The Global Ocean Oxygen Network's report is the widest reaching look at decreasing oxygen levels in the world's seas so far. Lisa Levin is a professor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and a co-author of the report. In her words, "The low oxygen problem is the biggest unknown climate change consequence out there."Levin said past research had shown low oxygen areas that were the result of agricultural pollution. She said past studies also showed how warmer waters had created a lack of oxygen. But Levin said this latest study shows how both problems are connected by common causes and possible solutions.Co-author Denise Breitburg said that some low oxygen levels in the world's ocean are natural, but not to the extent found. Wind patterns and ocean currents, believed caused by global warming, are preventing oxygen from sinking below the surface of the water. In addition, warmer water does not hold as much oxygen and less oxygen mixes into the water, she said.32. Why are the world’s oceans sick?A. Because the ocean life is sick.B. Because the Earth’s atmosphere is becoming warmer.C. Because the oxygen is being removed from ocean waters.D. Because there is too much oxygen to threaten the ocean life.33. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to?A. Oxygen being essential to ocean life.B. Oceans being sicker and sicker.C. Oxygen being not enough in the ocean.D. Atmosphere removing oxygen from ocean waters.34. About _______ million square kilometers of ocean are lack of oxygen in 1950.A. 32B. 27.6C. 37D. 20035. From the passage we can learn that_______.A. all life in the ocean depends on oxygen to liveB. oxygen levels in the ocean are likely to climbC. air pollution leads to low oxygen levels in oceansD. cold water holds more oxygen than warm water第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

2PART A Reading AloudFish are masters of the waters. And sailfish are the fastest of them all. Their speed makes them one of the ocean’s most fearsome predators. Off the coast of Mexico, 30 sailfish have surrounded a ball of sardines. To catch their prey requires more than speed alone. In the tightest turns, fins maintain stability. Their sickle-shaped tail powers them forwards, and that extraordinary dorsal fin helps intimidate their prey. To the naked eye, the action is too fast, slowed, their challenge becomes clear. It is alpine(高山) in the purest sense—with skyscraping peaks, glaciers and permanent snow fields, all set under a star-studded sky.Key HighlightsAlthough it includes 23 peaks over 3,000 metres high, this park is very accessible. State Highway 80 leads to Mt Cook Village which is situated beside scenic Lake Pukaki and provides a comfortable base for alpine activities. Far from city lights, the stargazing here is magnificent—Aoraki Mount Cook National Park forms the majority of New Zealand's only International Dark Sky Reserve.Mountaineers regard the area to be the best climbing region, while less skilled adventurers find plenty of satisfaction with the mountain walks that lead to alpine tarns, herb fields and spectacular glacier views. Encounters(遇到) with cheeky kea (mountain parrots) are part of the fun.Key ActivitiesMountain walksThere are 10 short walks beginning near the village. All tracks are formed and well marked. The Red Tarns Track, Kea Point and the Hooker Valley Track each take around two hours return. For more experienced alpine hikers, there are three mountain pass routes—over the Mueller, Copland and Ball passes.Glacier viewing and skiingHelicopters and ski-planes provide access to the park's fabulous glaciers. The Tasman Glacier is an excellent choice for intermediate skiers, while the Murchison, Darwin and Bonney glaciers promise excitement for advanced skiers. From October until May, you can explore the Tasman Glacier's terminal lake by boat.MountaineeringClimbing Mount Cook remains the ultimate challenge, but there are many other peaks to tempt experienced climbers. Tasman, Malte Brun, Elie de Beaumont, Sefton and La Perouse are local favourites.Key Tips·Climbers don't require permits, but are requested to complete a trip intentions form.·Local guides are available for climbing, walking and glacier skiing.·Winter climbing is an extreme sport—only recommended for well-prepared, experienced mountaineers.·The weather can change very suddenly—be prepared for heavy rainfall, snow and/or high winds.·The park has an airport serving domestic commercial flights and scenic flight operators.()56. Which is one of the characteristics of Mount Cook National Park?A. It is so-called alpine and hard to reach.B. It provides star-shining night skies for visitors.C. It attracts less skilled visitors to all alpine activities.D. It appeals to adventurers mainly for finding cheeky kea.()57. If you are a visitor to the park, you should ________.A. properly evaluate your own experience and skillB. get your permit prepared before you start to climbC. hire local guides to help you to train for climbingD. choose Darwin glacier to ski on as an intermediate skierBA report released this month found that grouping children by ability is on the rise again—teaching students in groups of similar ability has improved achievement for fast and slow learners alike—and who wouldn't want bright kids to be able to move ahead, or strugglers to get the help they need? But for most kids, labels(标签) applied early in life tend to stick, even if they are wrong.Sorting school children by ability has long been controversial. In some countries, especially in Asia, school-wide tracking(分流) remains normal. Children are tested and placed in different schools that direct them toward professional or vocational careers. Movement between the tracks is rare.School-wide tracking decreased in U.S. schools in the 1960s and 1970s. It never died out, though. Sorting students into separate tracks for math at about junior high school age continues to be common, and other forms of tracking persist as well.Unlike tracking, which means sorting students into separate classrooms, ability grouping happens within classrooms. When done according to the latest research, it has proven to promote achievement.Ability grouping is changeable and temporary. Within classrooms, students might be divided into different learning groups dealing with materials of different levels. Any students who master concepts can move upward between groups, and the student groups might look different from subject to subject and unit to unit. For instance, a student who stands out in language arts might be at an average or slower level in math. A student who flies through multiplication tables might need extra help with fractions. Students who lag in reading can be pulled out of the classroom in small groups for practice with a tutor until their reading improves.Research shows ability grouping within classes has more positive benefits than tracking. However, that must be weighed against the challenges involved. In many regular classrooms, the differences between student ability levels are very big. That presents challenges for teachers and low-performing students to constantly compare themselves with students who seem to flythrough school with ease. The rigid ability groups and tracking of the past are still with us in many schools. Likely, labels are applied with more caution than in the bad old days when some teachers gave reading groups not-so-secret code names like “Bluebirds” “Robins” “Crows” and “Buzzards”. But kids still know.()58. Why is grouping children by ability becoming popular again?A. Because most teachers do not like slower learners.B. Because grouping children should be done early in life.C. Because it is academically beneficial to different learners.D. Because fast learners can move ahead without teachers' help.()59. By saying “Movement between the tracks is rare.”in Paragraph 3, the writer really means ________.A. tracking children is normal in AsiaB. school-wide tracking has decreased in USC. professional and vocational careers are unrelatedD. sorted students can hardly change schools()60. The examples in Paragraph 6 are used mainly to illustrate ________.A. a good language learner promises to be good at mathsB. a student might join different groups for different coursesC. ability grouping benefits gifted students more than slow onesD. ability grouping presents no challenge for those slow students()61. What might be the challenge in regular classrooms for teachers?A. Students' different levels.B. Students' low performance.C. Constant self-comparison.D. Application of not-so-secret code.CMicrosoft just finished a three-month experiment operating an underwater data center. A server rack(服务器支架) with the power of about 300 PCs was placed into a water-tight(防水) steel container and lowered into the ocean off the coast of central California. The unusual experiment was launched because current data centers are unpleasantly inefficient. They're built where energy and land are cheap (not close to where people actually live). And they waste so much energy cooling their massive computers. The ocean can solve those problems. The cold ocean floor sufficiently cools the computing components inside the pod. And since most people live near the ocean, placing data centers under water could potentially increase the speed at which customers could access the information stored in Microsoft's cloud. The experiment was so successful that Microsoft operated the underwater data center for 75 days longer than it had planned to. The next step is to get a larger pod, with about four times the computing power, under the ocean for testing. Unlike the first experiment, the next pod will also be equipped with turbines, which will transform the ocean's currents into electricity. It's not clear when, if ever, underwater data centers will become a possible product. “Our first experiment was like dipping our pinkie toe in the water, and now we're going for the big toe,”said Lee, corporate vice president of Microsoft Research.Microsoft is still analyzing the environmental impacts of the study. Data centers are both hot and loud, which could have damaging effects on ocean life. Microsoft found that the noise its underwater data center produced was drowned out by nearby shrimp and crabs. The data centers are also built from recyclable materials, and Microsoft believes that the total carbon footprint of underwater data centers will be “dramatically lower”than current land-based centers.Given the growth in the cloud, industry analysts believe that most of the world's data centers have yet to be built. But building a data center takes at least two years—an eternity in the fast-developing tech industry. As a result, Microsoft builds its data centers with the future in mind, installing far more computing power and space than it currently needs.Lee believes that going under water can shift the building of data centers from construction projects to manufacturing jobs. “What if we could mass-produce these pods on an assembly line?”he thought. “We could deliver a data center, from conception to operation, in 90 days. That's dramatically different than what's happening today.”()62. What is the advantage of an underwater data center?A. It can be lowered to the ocean floor easily.B. It can cool computing components automatically.C. It can be built close to the place where people live.D. It can make information easily accessible to people.()63. We can infer that the underwater data centers ________.A. cause little harm to the ocean lifeB. are more environmentally friendlyC. change the course of ocean currentsD. are easy to build in large quantities()64. The underlined word “eternity” in Paragraph 5 means “________”.A. an extremely long timeB. an extended periodC. a seemingly short timeD. a fruitful period()65. The passage tries to inform readers that ________.A. an experiment was made in operating a data centerB. Microsoft will mass-produce pods on an assemble lineC. Microsoft succeeded in putting a data center underwaterD. underwater data centers are more efficient than land-based onesDMy father's family is not a musical family. They are a family of words. My brother has my father's dark hair, his love of a good argument. I take after my mother. From her I inherited a curious nature, a sense of adventure, bright red hair. I did not, contrary to her hopes, inherit a talent for the piano. That fact was established beyond doubt after unsuccessful attempts to draw music from me.The piano lessons began when I was four. My mother was convinced that I would be a child Mozart. She found the ideal teacher—Madame Oblenka, a strict Russian woman, whose pursed lips were enough to frighten a wild horse into submission. Madame Oblenka, who expected a little Mozart, was not very delighted to find a little girl banging her fists(拳头) on the keys.I tried to please her. “Feel the music,”she urged. I “felt” it and winced(退避) my ears—for what is more unpleasant than a series of wrong no tes played continuously? She “felt” my music, too, which is why she always left with an angrier expression than when she came.Once, when I was ten, I managed to record one of my own rehearsals(练习). In order to escape my practice sessions, I would close myself behind the door of the piano room, put on the tape recording, and read until the tape had finished. That method worked for a week, until mymother began to wonder why I always missed the same B-sharp. She knocked on the door, and, receiving no answer, came in to check on me and found that I had fallen asleep while the tape of my performance played on and on.I was twelve when my parents finally acknowledged that my hidden talent was not about to emerge(显现) any time soon. My mother, refusing to admit defeat, told me to pick another instrument. “Choose anything you want, Honey,”she said, assuming that freedom of choice would inspire devotion. I thought long and hard and chose the drums. My parents, sensitive to noise, would be less than overjoyed by a daily bombardment of playing. I imagined my father in his study, cotton wads in his ears.I worked my way through several other instruments before my mother hit on another idea. Maybe I wasn't meant to be an instrumentalist. Realizing that drama might be more suited to my talents, Mom took me to a drama teacher. However, he put me backstage, painting scenery. Once I recovered from my sense of injury, I realized the wisdom of his choice. I loved the active, practical backstage world, and I discovered that I had a knack for constructing and painting. I loved the challenge of taking our scanty(贫乏的) supplies and using them to make something beautiful. Imagining a scene and then seeing it emerge before me—this, to me, was close to magic.I'm a sculptor now, and every day I experience afresh the joy of being fully absorbed in the act of artistic creation. It's a wonderful, blissful(乐而忘忧) feeling. I realize that my parents, in their misguided attempts to interest me in music, were trying to give me this feeling. And now I feel grateful. Perhaps they went about it in the wrong way, but their hearts were in the right place.()66. Madame Oblenka always felt angry because ________.A. the author was too young to play the piano wellB. the author often pointed out the wrong notes of herC. the author kept banging on the keys unconsciouslyD. the author's performance was far from satisfactory()67. Which of the following best reveals the author's attitude towards piano practice?A. She tried to make the piano teacher pleased.B. She recorded her performance for improvement.C. She played the recording instead of practising.D. She repeated the same mistake in practising.()68. Why did the author choose the drums as a musical instrument?A. She was eager to free herself from piano lessons.B. She was reluctant to play an instrument.C. She was confident of handling them.D. She was fond of beating drums.()69. The author's mother can be best described as ________.A. devoted and stubbornB. encouraging and independentC. helpful and considerateD. hardworking and generous()70. We can learn from the passage ________.A. parents should encourage their children to create artB. the ordinary backstage work can help one succeedC. you can only get better at something if you practiceD. art should be treated as a joy rather than a burden第Ⅱ卷(非选择题共35分)第四部分:任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词. Social Networking and Its EffectSocial networking has become an unquestionable part of our everyday lives. Those who have a life on the Internet do not always realize that they are losing their connections with the real world. Nowadays, a reputation online is more important. Some are even finding a way to make a living online. Social media seems to have quite the impact, especially on teenagers.Years ago, before social networking existed, friends would go out and have a good time, and popularity in high school would be something of importance to a lot of people. Today, popularity means having a lot of followers on Twitter or Tumblr. Tumblr has its own way of creating “celebrities”. Users are considered “Tumblr famous” if they have a high number of followers. Websites make us think that greatness is achieved just because thousands of strangers are familiar with your face. Popularity is not about having a lot of friends anymore; it is just about being known for absolutely nothing.Social networking has its positives, considering it allows us to connect with friends andfamily in a matter of seconds. Although this is extremely useful, it is also destroying our ability to make real life conversations. People are attacked over the Internet, but do not say a word to each other in person. Social media is preventing us from standing up for ourselves the way we should be. Facebook limits our conversations that we have with people, which is why it is always better to strike up a conversation in person instead of through a computer screen. Social networking destroys the true meaning of human interaction.Teens are finding new ways to make a living out of advertisements that they post on their social networking pages. Social networks allow them to make money without even getting up off the couch. Being out in the real world and working creates ways to communicate and is a crucial part of life, but that will be destroyed if young teens think it is okay to just make money through social media. Social networking makes things easier, but that does not always mean that it makes things better.Social networking affects young lives and causes teens to grow up differently from how their older relatives have. They rely on their blogs and pages to communicate with people, keep up with the latest trends and enjoy their separate little world. Social media has ruined how life should be: fun, adventurous and exciting. Instead, it has turned most teenagers into anti-social couch potatoes. There needs to be a break from social networking so young people can once again live a real life in the real world.Title: Social Networking and Its Effect第五部分:书面表达(满分25分)请阅读下面文字及图表,并按照要求用英语写一篇150词左右的文章.【写作内容】1. 根据答语中的问句“Did you make the。

Paddy Nicholls, 69, won his fight for justice yesterday after 23 years in prison for the murder of a woman. Mr. Nicholls was locked up for life for murdering Gladys Heath, a 74-year-old friend, found dead at her home in Worthing, Sussex.Mr. Nicholls was taken to London's Law Courts in a wheelchair yesterday to hear his name formally cleared and to hear Lord Justice Roth said, "We regret that you were wrongly found guilty and have spent such a long time in prison. " Mr. Nicholls stood with difficulty to receive one of the biggest compensation pay outs from the Home Office for his nightmare years in prison. He was accused of killing Mrs. Heath during a robbery attempt after spending the day with her in a local club. The facial injuries were said to have been caused by Mr. Nicholls. But a review of the case by experts who examined Mrs. Heath's body found that the facial injuries weren't serious and were probably caused by the fall which followed the heart attack.During the murder inquiry, Mr. Nicholls originally said he hadn't been in the victim's house but later admitted he had lied. He told the court that he found Mrs. Heath lying at the foot of the stairs but didn't call emergency services. He was frightened of the police by whom he had been questioned about the death of another woman weeks earlier. The extreme joy of having cleared his name after 23 years is great for Mr. Nicholls but there must be a lot of bitterness that will never go away. "It's easy to say I should enjoy the rest of my life. However, that will be hard for my life when I had the best years of my life stolen away. "(1) Which statement about Mr. Nicholls may the author agree with?A. He is in poor health.B. He is greedy for money.C. He felt guilty while in prison.D. He used to break the law.(2) Why didn't Mr. Nicholls call emergency services for Mrs. Heath?A. He was too scared to respond.B. He was on bad terms with her.C. He supposed she had made the call.D. Cities tend to be short of trees, which provide shade, and they are covered with black pavement, which absorbs heat from the sun. Think of how it feels to wear a dark shirt versus a white shirt on a sunny day. A black shirt absorbs light, heating you up. But a white shirt reflects light, keeping you cool. The average temperature in a city of a million or more people can be more than 5 degrees F hotter than surrounding areas. That extra 5 degrees can turn a hot day from uncomfortable to deadly. As temperatures rise, cities will be an especially dangerous place to be during a heat wave. To protect public health, city officials are going to make the city cooler. As part of that effort, Los Angeles is coating its roads in Cool Seal, a gray paint that keeps streets and parking lots 10 degrees cooler than black asphalt(沥青). It will help Angelinos save money during the summer, when air conditioning sends power bills soaring. And it will save lives by lowering temperatures and improving air quality. Hot weather worsens air pollution by turning car exhaust into smog, which can make life miserable for people with asthma(哮喘)and other breathing problems.Of course, LA will have to do more than paint over a few streets to cool off the city. Angelinos will also need to plant more trees and apply white paint to rooftops—at least those not already covered in solar panels. While LA is a pioneer of reflective streets, other cities, like New York, are already experimenting with reflective roofs or, like Melbourne, lowering the temperature by planting trees. LA is hardly alone in its effort to stay cool."This is an urgent challenge, and it's much bigger than one person, " said Mayor Garcetti in a recent statement. "Climate change is a fact of life that people in Los Angeles and cities around the world live with every day."(1) Which of the following contributes to the urban heat island effect?A. Planting more trees in the streets.B. Covering the streets with white paint.C. Applying reflective paint to rooftops.D. Why to coat the roads with black paintD. When to cut off the electricity supply.(3) What benefit can people gain from the use of CoolSeal?A. Increasing the indoor activities.B. Promoting the sale of air conditioners.C. Making life easier and more comfortable.D. Reducing the number of cold days.(4) What's the main idea of the passage?A. L.A. adopted many approaches to fight against the heat.B. L.A. calls on people to fight against global warming.C. More and more countries begin to plant trees in the streets.D. If you're considering bird ownership, the care requirements include providing good housing, nutritious food and keeping an eye on the bird's health.Choose the bird species with care.1It is very important to lean as much as you can about the species before deciding which bird you will choose. The bird must match your lifestyle, interests and ability to take good care of it.2.The cage size should be big enough for the bird to put its wings out straight from side to side. Since small cages tend to lead to behavior problems, space in the cage is important—the bigger the space in the cage, the better.Feed the bird regularly at about the same time each day. This could be when you eat, or maybe earlier.3So the bird knows when to expect its food. Besides, provide the bird with average temperature water and change it daily to ensure the freshness.Keep the cage properly and regularly cleaned. A clean cage reduced the risk of your bird suffering from bacteria. Regular removal of bird droppings is very important for keeping the birdhealthy.4Give the bird lots of attention. Talk to your bird as it rides around the house. This is necessary during the first couple of years.5For example, some birds will perfectly mimic(模仿)the sound of you moving the cleaning cloth over the stove or table.A. Not all bird species are appropriate as pets.B. Anyhow, choose a time and try to stick to it.C. Purchase the right kind of cage for housing the bird.D. A Though scientists warn that global warming will likely continue for centuries because of the long natural processes involved, there are a few things we can do to decrease the effects. Basically, they all boil down to this: Don't use as much of the stuff that creates greenhouse gases. On a local level, you can help by using less energy. The electricity that operates many of the devices in our homes comes from a power plant, and most power plants burn fossil fuels to generate that power. Turn off lights when they're not in use. Take shorter showers to use less hot water. Use a fan instead of an air conditioner on a warm day.

Here are some other specific ways that can help decrease greenhouse gases: ●Make sure your car is properly tuned up. This allows it to run more efficiently and generate fewer harmful gases. ●Walk or ride your bike if possible, or carpool on your way to work. Cars burn fossil fuel, so smaller, more fuel-efficient cars emit less CO2, particularly hybrid cars. ●Turn lights and other appliances off when you're not using them. Even though a light bulb doesn't generate greenhouse gas, the power plant that generates the electricity used by the light bulb probably does. Switch from incandescent light bulbs(白炽灯泡) to fluorescent bulbs(日光灯), which use less energy and last longer. ●Recycle. Garbage that doesn't get recycled ends up in a landfill, producing methane (甲烷). ●Plant trees and other plants where you can. Plants take carbon dioxide out of the air and release oxygen. ●Don't burn garbage. This releases carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons into the atmosphere. To really stem the emission of greenhouse gases, we need to develop non-fossil fuel energy sources. Hydro-electric power, solar power, hydrogen engines and fuel cells could all create big cuts in greenhouse gases if they were to become more common. 21.What can we infer from Paragraph 1? A.Globe warming will not likely continue. B.Scientists warn people not to use fossil fuels. C.Most of the power we use at home comes from coal and oil. D.We can do few things to decrease the effects of global warming. 22.Which is true about non-fossil fuel energy according to the text? A.It releases fewer greenhouse gases. B.It gives off no greenhouse gases at all. C.It is the energy generated by coal. D.It is more expensive than the fossil fuel energy. 23.This text is probably taken from a __________. A.history book B.science magazine C.fashion magazine D.medical journal
