各种各样的“会议”和“委员会”的英语表达CongressCongress 一词常表示专门性代表大会，比较正式而隆重，出席会议的代表一般是选举产生的，会上通过的决议往往具有约束力，中国共产党全国代表大会就是National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party of China, 美国的国会也称Congress。

MeetingMeeting是其中最普通的词，词义比较笼统，可以泛指各种有目的的集会，如mass meeting(群众大会)，farewell meeting(欢送会)，class meeting(学生开的班会)，由各国元首或政府首脑出席的峰会是summit meeting，现在meeting一词常省略。
Forum/symposium常用来表示座谈会等学术性会议。
Exhibition/show汉语中有些会已不属于meeting的范畴，比如展览会是exhibition 或show；春节期间的庙会可译为temple fair，元宵节的灯会应该是lantern show。
除了以上各种会之外，board, committee, commission 及council这几个可以用来表示委员会的词也很容易混淆。

一、展会名称英译存在的问题（一）展会活动词的用词不当首先，会展活动的种类繁多，而国内外对这些活动又有不同的界定，造成了译者对相关词汇理解上的困难。
其次，有关会展活动的同义词或近义词很多，而现有词典中的解释又不够明确，如果翻译时盲目地按中文字面意思硬译，会产生许多问题。
如，译文不能准确反映会展活动的真实特点、目的与功能。
目前，“XX展”通常都翻译成exhibition，而“XX会议”则通通翻译成conference。
实际上，exhibition这个词一般不在展会名称中使用，而是各种展会活动的一个统称，展会活动词还有很多其他表达，比如，show，fair，expo等等。
例如，第六届中国（广州）国际汽车展览会，the 6th International Autoshow， Guangzhou， China. 另外，“conference”也不能指代所有的“会议”。
