(1) First make sure that the pupils
remember the words for all the things
illustrated: cola, apples, bananas, ice cream,
chocolate, eggs, orange juice.
(2) Explain to the pupils that they have to
listen to the children on the tape and try to
understand what they are buying and how
much they are spending.
(3) Then play the Audio Cassette/CD and
ask the pupils to point to which of the things shown in Exercise 8 each child is buying.
8afore starting this listening exercise, it may
be useful to get the pupils to sing a song.
Even if it has nothing to do with the exercise
it will make it easier for them to listen to the
conversations in English afterwards.
This activity may seem out of place, but it is
very useful as it creates the right kind of
atmosphere for the listening exercise.
3. Find the path.
(1) The pupils have to find their way
through the maze and at the same time add
and subtract the numbers they find along the
way. Tell the pupils that there are several
paths through the maze, but only the one with
numbers that add up to exactly 30 is the
correct path.
(2) Give the pupils enough time to do the
exercise individually and when they have
finished ask a volunteer to read out the
correct answer. The other pupils should
correct their exercise and add their
