在他少年时期随同母亲和哥哥去往欧洲生活。
1902年考入宾夕法尼亚大学，结识了埃兹拉.庞德和希尔达.杜利特尔，这段友谊给了他的诗歌创作的激情。
从宾夕法尼亚大学毕业后取得医学学位。
又去德国莱比锡大学进修。
他的一生主要是行医，直到50年代才退休。
业余从事诗歌创作，也写小说和评论文章。
威廉斯在文学创作上曾受大学时期的好友埃兹拉·庞德和其他意象派作家的影响，同时继承了惠特曼的浪漫主义传统，并在诗歌形式方面进行了实验，发展了自由诗体。

这有助于笔者从宏观与微观角度更好地对诗词的英译本进行较有把握的评析。
整个诗句总共只有二十二个字(含标题),它主要的大意是:千山万岭不见飞鸟的踪影,千路万径不见行人的足迹。
一叶孤舟上,一位身披蓑衣头戴斗笠的渔翁,默默地在漫天风雪中垂钓。
这首五言绝句作于诗人柳宗元在永州期间。
柳宗元被贬到永州后,精神上受到很大打击和压抑,借助歌咏隐居山水的渔翁来寄托自己清高孤傲的情怀,抒发政治上失意的苦闷和压抑。
诗中客观境界的幽僻更能体现出作者落寞孤寂的心情。

7、[简析]这是一首敕勒人唱的民歌，是由鲜卑语译成汉语的。
它歌唱了大草原的景色和游牧民族的生活。
1、开头两句“敕勒川，阴山下”，交代敕勒川位于高耸云霄的阴山脚下，将草原的背景衬托得十分雄伟。
2、接着两句“天似穹庐，笼盖四野”，敕勒族人用自己生活中的“穹庐”作比喻，说天空如毡制的圆顶大帐篷，盖住了草原的四面八方，以此来形容极目远望，天野相接，无比壮阔的景象。
这种景象只在大草原或大海上才能见到。
3、最后三句“天苍苍，野茫茫，风吹草低见牛羊”是一幅壮阔无比、生机勃勃的草原全景图。
“风吹草低见牛羊”，一阵风儿吹弯了牧草，显露出成群的牛羊，多么形象生动地写出了这里水草丰盛、牛羊肥壮的景象。
全诗寥寥二十余字，就展现出我国古代牧民生活的壮丽图景。
这首诗具有北朝民歌所特有的明朗豪爽的风格，境界开阔，音调雄壮，语言明白如话，艺术概括力极强。
宋诗人黄庭坚说这首民歌的作者“仓卒之间，语奇如此，盖率意道事实耳”（《山谷题跋》卷七）。
