Extended family or nuclear familyFirst of all,I give my vote to the latter one.The reasons are listed as follows.As is known to us all,a nuclear family consists of a pair of couple and their unmarried children,and an extended family includes two or more pairs of couple and their unmarried children,which has more people than a nuclear family.So it is obviously that you can have more personal space as well as as freedom if you live in a nuclear family to some extent.You can do everything you like at arbitrary.You can get up too early or too late,raise your pets and do not worry about disturbing others.Not only does a nuclear family provides more personal space and freedom for you,but it is also good for your relation with family members. Different people hod different attitudes towards the same thing.Living in an extended family is easy for family members have different views about one thing,and they may feel unhappy or even argue with each other,which may lead to family problems or conflict.This will definitely hurt their relation deeply. But living in a nuclear family,people meet with each other from time to time,and they have more joy than problems when they meet,which exerts positive efferts on their relations.Last but not least,it’s undeniable that in an extended family,grandparents would like to spend more time on children and do everything they can for children.For instance,grandparents may meet their unreasonable needs or help children to do housework.All this will spoil children,which is bad for children in the long term.But in a nuclear family,parents are more likely to teach children do things on their own.To sum up,a nuclear family would be better than an extended family.。

英美法亲属关系
领养子女的家庭：美国的跨国领养政策比较完善，所以在美国从国外特别是非发达国家领养孩子并不新奇。美国人一般很重视对领养孩子进行他们出生国家的文化教育，很多美国人会带领养的孩子回他们原来的国家参观游览。
host family：寄宿家庭，指留学生特别是交换学生住在当地人家里的家庭
homestay：寄宿，出国留学或访问的人士在当地家庭居住
寄宿家庭：这种存在了很多年的“美国寄宿家庭项目”（American Host Family program）是美国的一些学校为留学生特别是交换学生提供的在美国家庭生活的机会，时间上从几天到几年不等。很多寄宿家庭与留学生建立起密切的关系，甚至会以“父母”相称，“父母”也会经常自豪地谈论自己的异国“儿女”。CCTV曾播放“留美幼童——中国最早的官派留学生”的专题节目，其中就有很多1872~1875年大清王朝的留美“幼童”与他们的美国寄宿家庭几代人延续长达一个世纪的感人故事。
对父母的兄弟姐妹的孩子们，一概称Cousin，属于first cousin。而second cousin是指远房堂兄弟姐妹或远房表兄弟姐妹（即父母的堂表兄弟姐妹的子女），同属一个曾祖父母的血缘关系。不管多复杂的关系，在美语里，也只能说“This is my second cousin."
对父母的兄弟姐妹，称Uncle和Aunt。后面一般都带上他们的名字，比如Uncle Jim或Aunt Betty等。所以，在美国，别指望同事和朋友的孩子们经常叫你“叔叔、阿姨”。
一般美国家庭中，孩子们称父母为Dad，Mom，Daddy，Mommy，Pa，Ma等。兄弟姐妹之间则一律直呼其名。有时也会听到哥哥弟弟称姐妹们为Sis。对爸爸妈妈的父母统称grandparents。实在需要说明时，可以说paternal/maternal grandparents或grandparents on my mother's side/on my father's side。另外，常听人称祖母为Nana，同中文的“奶奶”很接近，据说是来自“奶妈”“保姆”（Nanny）一词。

前所未有的family 家族大集合1.nuclear familynuclear family包含的是父母及其子女。
在数量上而言，相反的family type则是extended family。
2. extended familyextended family建立在nuclear family之上的延伸关系，包括父母、孩子、叔叔、阿姨、表兄弟姐妹等，可能住在同一个屋檐之下或住在临近。
中国家庭一般是祖父母跟nuclear family住在一起，就是一个典型例子。

家庭成员之间的关系不一定是要有血缘关系，可以是收养的关系。

4. blended familyblended family 也叫step / reconstituted /complex family, 即是重组的家庭，父母双方是离异的，或者因为其他原因单身之后又重新进入婚姻，双方有可能尚未有共同的孩子，但一定有一起抚养来自之前家庭的孩子。
也就是说对于这个家庭的孩子来说，他们与父母的关系即是继母或继父的关系。
5. foster familyfoster family 是父母收养了跟他们非血缘关系的孩子作为其子女。
孩子与父母之间的关系是养父或养母的关系。
与foster parent 相对的当然就是有血缘关系的亲生父母，即biological parent。
6. single parent familysingle parent family 也就是单身家庭。
7. childless familychildless family 即是夫妻双方决定不要孩子，丁克家庭，它也还可以叫做childfree family。
8. only child familyonly child family，独生子女家庭，中国社会的特有家庭结构。

What is nuclear family?
A nuclear family is a family group consisting of a father and mother and their children, who share living quarters.
This can be contrasted with an extended family. Nuclear families can have any number of children, own or adopted.
Nuclear family
（核心家庭）指由一对夫妻及其子女组成，并且共同居住在同一屋檐下的家庭。
与之相对的就是extended family（大家庭）。
核心家庭中的子女，无论是亲生的还是收养的，在数量上并无限制。
The term nuclear is used in its general meaning referring to a central entity or "nucleus" around which others collect.
这里的nuclear用的是它本意，即事务或人围绕的“核心，中心”。
