Memo
1 Case Study
❖ If you do not have the time to wash your lunch container or coffee mug, leave it by your desk until you are ready to wash it. Even two or three dirty plates will encourage every person thereafter to leave their unwashed, food-stained dishes and silverware in the sink. Conversely, studies have shown that when a sink is empty, people are more likely to wash their dishes immediately.
Notes:
What’s the purpose of writing a memo?
What are the components of a memo?

Tips for a good memo body (additional):
• The body of the memo carries a clearly structured message, which is often written in short numbered paragraphs. The body, including the subject sentence, should be blocked to the left margin. The body should be written in plain English to present readers with an objective and factual description of the topic.
✓ A memo written to someone less familiar, particularly to someone in a higher position in the company, can be as formal as any formal business letters.
• Memorandum: a Latin word which means “thing to be remembered”. Here it refers to a written record or communication, as in a business office.
