Translation in China has a long history of about two thousand years. During the centuries, quite a number of world-famous translators in China appeared one after another and they made great contributions to China as well as to the world in the development of translation. This can be seen from the following facts.

商贸函电指经济贸易活动中的各类信函、电报、电传等。 其文体特征主要有： 1） 措词简洁明了。为使表达明晰，商贸函电在措词上力求 简明扼要，不太讲究修饰。 2） 用语正式庄重。正式庄重的语言常常显得诚恳、自然、 有礼貌，因此常用于商贸函电中。 3） 专业术语较多。如FOB（离岸价）、CIF （到岸价）、 settlement（理赔）、L/C（信用证）、AC（承兑）等。 4） 具有相对固定的格式。商贸函电格式相对固定，大体上 由以下六个部分组成： a. 信头（the heading） b. 信内地址（the inside address） c. 称呼（the salutation） d. 信文（the body） e. 结束语 （the complimentary close） f. 签名（the signature）

省略指省去非关键性的词语。标题原来都 是一句完整的句子，但为了起到言简意赅的 效果，从而突出重要内容，标题中常常删略 去某些语法成分或词语，尤以虚词为主，如

第四章新闻文体的翻译新闻文本是英语中常见的实用文本之一。
新闻传播作为一种有组织的大众传播形式，随着现代传播手段的不断更新、变化，已由原来的仅以报刊为主的传播手段逐渐发展成为包括阅读、视听、网络传播在内的多种手段。
新闻的种类很多。
按传播工具，可分为网络新闻报纸新闻、杂志新闻、广播新闻、电视新闻、有线电视新闻和通讯社新闻。
按新闻发生的地域和范围，有国际新闻、国内新闻和地方新闻；按报道的内容课分为政治新闻、经济新闻、科技新闻、文化新闻、体育新闻及娱乐新闻等若干类；按体裁分，新闻主要有三大类：消息（news reporting）、特写（features）和新闻评论（commentaries）按照事件的性质，新闻还可以分为“硬新闻”和“软新闻”两大类。
硬新闻即纯消息报道指题材比较严肃、具有一定时效性的客观事实报道；软新闻则指人情味较浓、写法轻松活泼的社会新闻，题材可能略显陈旧或无关紧要，但绝非枯燥乏味。
可见新闻翻译涉及的范围极为广泛。
第一节新闻文体的语言特点与翻译一．新闻文体的语言特点新闻语体属于中性语体。
对英语而言，实际通用的中性语体就是标准英语（Standard Engish）或者叫做通用英语（General English）。
这是受教育者、出版机构和广播、电视等媒体使用最广泛的语体，比商议语体更正式一些，但还达不到正式语体的程度，这是为了满足媒体大众化的需求而采用的语体。
其词汇、语法、拼写和语音层面等方面都力求符合大众需求。
词汇通用、易懂、多样；句法结构正统、完整、简洁；逻辑关系严谨、明确。
新闻语体的翻译在原则上应当与新闻写作的语体保持一致。
既然新闻写作使用中性语体，翻译自然也应当使用中性语体。
英译汉要采用现代标准汉语——普通话；汉译英要采用标准英语。
在词汇层面使用通用、易懂、鲜活的词语；在语法层面使用正统、完整句法和简洁的句式；在语篇上使用规范、严谨的衔接手段，以充分实现朴实型、新颖性、具体性、简明性等新闻文本特点。

指电讯稿件播发的新闻单位、地点、时间的说明，也有只说明新闻单位和时间。
稿件用¡°电报电传电话¡±等方式发往外地称“电”，发给当地的称“讯”。
⏹新闻通讯社的稿件常常以“××社××地×月×日电”作为电头。
“本报讯”“本台讯”则是为了表明这篇稿件是自己的记者或者通讯员的作品，如果是外埠采访也必须注明发稿的地点时间，可以写成本台××地×月×日专电。
⏹熟悉主要通讯社和媒体的名称、简称等。
例：APUPIReutersAFPXinhuaChinanewsKyodoEfe3、导语⏹新闻导语——是就以简要的文句，突出最重要、最新鲜或最富有个性特点的事实，提示新闻要旨，吸引读者阅读全文的消息的开头部分。
⏹翻译导语时要使用清晰、简洁、生动的词语突出主要信息。
例1. Beijng, August 19（Reuter) –The president’s visit has turn ed a new page in relation between the two countries，mass media here say.译：路透社北京8月19日电，此间新闻界认为，总统此次来访为两国关系揭开了新的一页。
例2. London, Oct 20（Reuter via Xinhua)—London market closed mixed on profit taking after a higher opening in fairly active trading, it was announced herel.译：新华社转引路透社10月20日电，此间人士称，伦敦股市开市时股价上扬，交易相当活跃。
由于一些持股者获利后抛盘，收盘时有涨有跌。
