在阅读教学中应善于帮助学生不断启动并扩充他们的阅读内容，不断丰富学生的综合知识，即语篇信息，语境氛围和文化背景等方面的知识，培养他们发散性思维的元认知结构。
3.阅读是提高语言的复现率，积累语言知识与素材的途径，有针对性的扩大词汇量。
文章由句子组成，句子由一个个单词组成，如果单词不认识，就会严重地阻碍阅读，因此扩大词汇量是必要的，但只靠记住那孤立的单词是不够的，英语句型熟练与否，直接影响了英语学习的效果。
有许多学生对学过的常用句型结构比较生疏，感知能力差，迟迟不能读懂语句，因此在英语教学中，常遇到这样的情况：学生学了几年英语后，虽然有了一定的词汇量，但还要教师逐句译成汉语，否则就不知其意；不少学生只会认读课文，而对与课文难度相当的课外阅读材料，则看不懂或阅读速度很慢。
教师再阅读训练中既要介绍学习方法和技巧，同时阅读的材料应是体裁多样，题材广泛适合不同层次的学生阅读，激发学生的阅读欲望，满足学生的好奇心和求知欲，从而调动学生的学习兴趣和热情，扩大学生的阅读量，提高学生实际运用语言的能力。
二、培养学生良好的习惯，教会学生灵活的阅读方法
1.在阅读中，要有良好的习惯。
阅读时要求学生带着问题阅读，这是提高阅读能力的关键。
对于不同内容的阅读材料，可以采用不同的阅读方法。
对于重点的文章，精彩的段落，典型句式要精读。
对于那些太难的可以略读或跳读。
这样，阅读才能做到有的放矢，在一定的时间内收到最大的功效。
2.学会猜测生词，进行计时阅读。
在阅读过程中常常会碰到一些生词。
在一般情况下，不必见到生词就查字典，以保持阅读的连贯性，不至于影响阅读的速度和对文章的整体理解。
那么，该怎么办呢？一方面可以通过构词法来分析判断词性或词义。
另一方面可以根据上下文的内容，语气来判断其含义。
如果遇到个别难以猜测而又影响对文章理解的单词，就该查阅一下词典。
大纲规定：初中生的阅读速度为每分钟400到500个词，理解正确率达到百分之七十。
因此，常做计时训练，以提高自己的阅读速度和理解能力。
3.力求上好每一节阅读课，使每一节阅读课成为学生提高阅读能力的示范课，让学生在阅读中尝到乐趣，增强阅读的信心，逐步提高阅读能力。
学生通过阅读不同的题材，能够接受很多的信息，了解不同国家和地区的风土人情及历史地理，知名人物等多方面的知识，这对于扩展视野，促进其他学科的学习都是很有益处的。
因此，必须把阅读当成英语教学的一个重要步骤，不求学生每次阅读时间和文章篇幅的长短，但一定要持之以恒地读下去，这样才能收到良好的效果。
4.坚持阅读训练。
学生每学完某些句型后，老师要提供一些难易程度与课文相当的短文、对话进行阅读。
这些短文，对话后的练习尽量围绕相关的句型结构特点设计，这样，常用句型就能按照记忆规律多次以不同形式展现在学生面前，学生识别常用句型的能力就会培养起来。
因此，坚持阅读训练既可以熟悉且熟练掌握学过的常用句型、又可以挖掘学生内在潜力，更有效地提高学生的阅读能力，形成良好的阅读习惯，是学好英语中的重要一环。
总之，“冰冻三尺，非一日之寒”，只要坚持练习，不断总结经验，就一定能提高英语的阅读能力。
