2.单选题In our society the unwritten rules of communication discourage the direct expression of emotions. Count the number of genuine emotional expressions you hear over a two-or-three-day period and you’ll discover that emotional expressions are rare. People are generally comfortable making statements of fact and often delight in expressing their opinions, but they rarely disclose how they feel. Not surprisingly, the emotions that people do share directly are usually positive. For example, one study of married couples revealed that the partners shared flattering feelings of face-saving ones. They also willingly disclosed both positive and negative feelings about absent third parties. On the other hand, the husbands and wives rarely expressed face-threatening feelings of hostility.Surprisingly, social rules even discourage too much expression of positive feelings. A hug and kiss for Mother is all right, though a young man should shake hands with Dad. Affection toward friends becomes less and less frequent as we grow older, so that even a simple statement such as “I like you” is seldom heard between adults.A review of research on emotional expression supports the cultural stereotype of the non-emotional male and the more emotional female. As a group, women are more likely than men to express their emotions. They are better at distinguishing between related feelings such as liking and loving, and they are more likely to have more affectionate relationships than men. Of course, these gender differences are statistical average, and there are many men and women who do not fall into these types.1.What is the main ides of this passage?2.People avoid expressing their feelings directly because()3.Which of the following statements do people tend to express?4.That “Women are better than men in expressing feelings” is()5.According to the passage, it is surprising that()问题1选项A.Both adults and children seldom expose their feelings and opinions.B.Society is the real cause of people’s less expression of their affectio n.C.People like to talk freely behind a third person.D.Women are more open than men in expressing their feelings.问题2选项A.they have no time over a two-or-three-day periodB.they feel timid to do soC.they prefer facts to feelingsD.they feel uneasy when they disclose their inner world问题3选项A.Your hairstyle is good, but the color does not suit your skin.B.How should he have left the room in such a mess!C.I’m sorry to say I can’t love you any more.D.It is silly of you to have given up this chance.问题4选项A.a complete cultural stereotypeB.proven by researchC.the traditional prejudiceD.the key to social problems问题5选项A.women are more expressive than menB.husbands and wives tend to please each otherC.people are socially discouraged from expressing their positive feelingsD.people feel comfortable to disclose their negative feelings【答案】第1题:B第2题:D第3题:A第4题:B第5题:C【解析】1.判断推理题。

From my wheelchair experience, I see the best in people, but sometimes I feel sad because those who appear independent miss the kindness I see daily. They don’t get to see this soft side of others. Often, we try every way possible to avoid showing our weakness, which includes a lot of pretending. But only when we stop pretending we’re brave or strong do we allow people to show the kindness that’s in them.

事实细节题—模拟题(一)限时测试时间:35分钟AWe can make mistakes at any age. Some mistakes we make are about money. But most mistakes are about people. “Did Jerry really care when I broke up with Helen?”“When I got that great job, did Jim really feel good about it, as a friend? Or did he envy my luck?” When we look back, doubts like these can make us feel bad. But when we look back, it’s too late. Why do we go wrong about our friends or our enemies? Sometimes what people say hides their real meaning. And if we don’t really listen, we miss the feeling behind the words. Suppose someone tells you, “You’re a luck dog.” That’s being friendly. But “lucky dog”? There’s a bit of envy in those words. Maybe he doesn’t see it himself. But bringing in the phrase “lucky dog” puts you down a little. What he may be saying is that he doesn’t think you deserve you luck.“Just think of all the things you have to be thankful for” is another noise that says one thing and means another. It could mean that the speaker is trying to get you to see your problem as part of the thought that your problem isn’t important. It’s telling you to think of all the starving people in the world when you haven’t got a date for Saturday night. How can you tell the real meaning behind someone’s words? One way is to take a good look at the person talking. Do his words fit the way he looks? Does what he says agree with the tone of voice? His posture? The look in his eyes? Stop and think. The minute you spend thinking about the real meaning behind what people say may you save another mistake. (2007广东惠州调研)26. This passage is mainly about ______.A. how to tell the real meaning behind our wordsB. what to od when you listen to others talkingC. how to avoid mistakes when communicating with peopleD. why we must know the wrong we will doBThe human nose has given to the languages of the world many interesting expressions. Of course, this is not surprising. Without the nose we could not breathe or smell. It is the part of the face that gives a person special character. Cyranode Bergerac said that a large nose showed a great man —brave, polite, manly, andbright. A famous woman poet wished that she had two noses to smell a nose. Blaise Pascal, a French philosopher made an interesting comment about Cleopatra’s nose. If it had been shorter, he said, it would have changed the whole face of the world. Historically, man’s nose has had an important role in his imagination. Man has referred to the nose in many ways to express his feelings. Expressions about the nose refer to human weakness: anger, pride, jealousy, and revenge (报复). In English there are number of phrases about the nose. For example, to hold up their noses at people, things and places. The phrase, to be led around by the nose lets other people control him. On the other hand, a person who follows his nose, lets instinct (本性) guide him.For the human emotion of rejection, the phrase to have one’s nose put out of joint is very descriptive. The expression applies to persona who have been turned aside because of a competitor. Their pride is hurt and they feel rejected. This expression is not new. It was used by Erasmus in 1542.This is only a sample of expressions in English dealing with the nose. There are a number of others. However, it should be as plain as the nose on your face that the nose is more than organ for breathing and smiling! (2007广东惠州调研)31. For a man to admit to a disaster in fishing would be like denouncing mother-love or hating moonlight.”I can’t say that I’m the biggest John Steinbeck fan. Actually, the only thing I can ever remember reading by him was “The pearl” when I was in middle school, but I couldn’t agree more with the man when it comes to fishing. Whether I am on a boat in the middle of the Lay Lake, fishing off the shores of the Florida Keys for tarpon or catching rainbow trout in the Shoshone River of Wyoming, fishing is my life.According to the American Sports Fishing Association, the fishing industry brings in more than $ 116 billion per year from fishermen across the country.Though a beautiful picture to imagine, fishing is much more than that. Fishing is a way of life for many people and a way to escape everyday stress. Being a fisherman makes me a member of a wonderful group of people extending to all walks of life. Even President Bush can be found fishing on his farm in Texas with his good friend Roland Martin when the job gets too stressful.I can remember fishing with my grandfather when I was 5 years old on his boat at Lake Mitchell. Although I didn’t understand what I was doing, I did know that my grandfather was happy and made me happy. Since then I’ve spent the past 16 years on the rivers and lakes of Alabama. After days of practice, before and after work, I slowly developed an understanding of fishing. My boss, Ric Horst, took me back to the Shoshone, and I managed to bring in a 19-inch cut-throat trout. Fishing with Ric was a life-changing experience for me. He not only showed me how to fish correctly, but also told me how fishing could be a way to escape your problems.Since then, prime-time season to take forever to arrive. Now, with the ending of February and beginning of March in sight, the excitement of heading out Lake Tuscaloosa or Lake Lurleen before classes and catching something had finally returned.(2007广东汕头一模)36. No surprise that you’ll be likely to be videotaped while holiday shopping but it’s not all for security. Some of it is for market research. Retailers are tracking you to learn how you shop.“Where are shoppers spending time? What is drawing their attention? Are they having to wait too long for customer service at different points?”Consumer behavior analysis is part of observation, part of science, part of technology and a bit of psychology. Rajeev Sharma’s software turns images of customers’ walking their way through stores into hard data, allowing retailers to take fast action if things aren’t working out.“You can move around the merchandise and the position of products so that it creates the right sequence and the right products in front of the right people in the right time.”With the holiday shopping crunch (吵闹声), retailers know their customers get angry easily.“And you can create this kind of map, the hot spots and the cold spots.
