Good afternoon, everyone. I’m Zhou Yan. I’m an English teacher from Experi mental School of Suqian. Now I’ll say Sample A of Lesson Six in Book One. I’ll prepare to say the lesson from four parts.

Part One Analysis of the Teaching Material

(一) STATUS AND FUNCTION

1.This is an important lesson in Book One. From this lesson, it starts asking t he Ss to grasp contents of each Sample. To attain “four skills” request of liste ning, speaking, reading and writing. To start listing “Word Bank” and tell the Ss to remember the new words. To start asking the Ss to write the English se ntences well. Therefore this lesson is in the important position of the teaching material.

2.This lesson is the first one of Unit 2.So if the Ss can learn it well, it will be helpful to make the Ss learn the rest of this unit.

3.Such a topic is related to daily life, so it is helpful to raise learning interest s of students and it will be also helpful to improve their spoken English. (二)ANALYSIS OF THE STUDENTS

The Ss has learned English for about one month so far. They can understand some words and some simple sentences. The Ss have taken a great interest in English now.

(三)TEACHING AIMS AND DEMANDS

The teaching aim\'s basis is established according to Junior School English syll abus\' provision.

1.Knowledge objects

(1) To make the Ss know how to use the affirmative sentence “This is. . . .” and the negative sentence “This is not….”Everyday expressions for “Apologies”“I\'m sorry”“That\'s all right”.

(2) To study the new words “six, hey, sorry, it’s, that’s”, etc. by learning the dialogue of this lesson.

(3) To finish some exercises.

2.Ability objects

(1) To develop the Ss’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

(2) To train the Ss’ ability of working in pairs.

(3) To develop the Ss’ abilities of communication by learning the useful struct ures.

3.Moral objects

(1) To enable the Ss to be polite and love life.

(2) To enable the Ss to look after their things well.

(四)TEACHING KEY AND DIFFICULT POINTS

A of Lesson Six in the teaching material\'s position and function.

(1) How to make dialogues and act them out.

(2) How to write the right whole sentences.

Multi-media computer, Tape recorder, Software: Powerpoint or Authorware, sch ool things and so on. They will be needed in this lesson.

Part Two The Teaching Methods

1. Communicative teaching method

2. Audio-visual teaching method

3. Task-based” teaching method

As we all know: the main instructional aims of learning English in the Middle School is to cultivate students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly us e “Communicative” teaching method, “Audio-visual” teaching method and “Tas k-based” teaching method. That is to say, I’ll let the Ss to get a better underst anding of the key structure of the dialogue. I’ll give the Ss some tasks and ar range five kinds of activities: talking, guessing games, watching CAI, acting ou t Sample A and having a competition.

Teaching special features

To use these methods are helpful to develop the Ss’ thought.

Part Three STUDYING WAYS

1.Teach the Ss how to be successful language learners.

2.Let the Ss pass \"Observation—Imitation—Practice \" to study language.

3.Teach the Ss how to master dialogues and how to communicate with others. Teaching special features:

Let the Ss communicate with each other and adopt competition methods to dev elop the Ss’ keen interest in English.

Part Four Teaching Procedure

I’ll finish this lesson in four steps. First I’ll divide the Ss into four groups an d bring a competition into the class. At last let’s see which group is the winn er.

Step1 Warm-up

1. Free talk between T and Ss .

Such as: Hi, I’m . . . . What’s your n ame?

This is …. How do you do?

Who is he/she? How are you?

Who can count from 1to 5?

What’s this in English? etc.

2.A game: Ask the Ss to give T some school things. For example:

T: Give me your book.(ruler, box, pen, table, knife, etc.)

T: This is y our book. This is not my book. It’s your book. etc.

In this course I’ll ask them to make a dialogue group by group without repetit ion. Find out which group will make the most dialogues.

Purpose of my designing: I think it is important to form a better English learn ing surrounding for the Ss by imitating and at the same time it is necessary t o provide situations to review learned knowledge.

Step2. Presentation

This course is very important. I’ll mainly talk about this step.

I’ll use CAI to present the w hole dialogue. Arrange some situations to help Ss understand Sample A.

First scene: There is a bag on the floor. B is picking it up and get ready to l eave. Now A is talking with B.

A: Hi, B. How are you today?

B: I’m fine, thank you. And you?

A: I’m fi ne, too. Oh, this is my bag.

B: No, this is not your bag. It’s my bag.

A: (Look closely) Oh, I’m sorry.

B: That’s all right.

(At the same time, C is running up and hitting A.)

C: Oh, I’m sorry.

A: That’s OK.

I’ll write the key points on the Bb while they are watching. After watching, I’ll teach them to read the words and sentences on the Bb. Make sure they can read them well.

Purpose of my designing: To present Sample A by CAI is much easier for the Ss to learn and grasp the meanings. CAI can provide a real situation with its sound and picture and it makes the relationships between the Ss better.

Step3.Practice

First play the tape recorder. Let the Ss listen and imitate the dialogue. Pay att ention to their pronunciation and intonation. In this step the Ss are required to practise the Sample in pairs by reading the dialogue aloud. This step is empl oyed to make the Ss grasp the Sample .At last I’ll ask the Ss to think hard a nd act it out with a partner according to Sample A. Then find out which grou p will act it out well. I’ll give them red stars.

Purpose of my designing: This step is employed to make the Ss get the gener al idea of the dialogue as a whole one. At the same time let the Ss have a c hance to practise their listening and spoken ability.

Step4.Production

In this step I’ll give the Ss a free space to show their abilities.

Second scene: The Ss are having a picnic. It’s hot and they take off their coa ts and put them together. They are singing and dancing, laughing and chatting. After the picnic, they begin to look for their coats. D and E are talking. F a

nd G are talking. etc.

After watching, I’ll give the Ss some tasks to make similar dialogues without repetition and find out which group will make more dialogues.

Purpose of my designing: “Task-based” teaching method is used here to develo p the Ss’ ability of communication and also their ability of co-operation will b e well trained. Tell the Ss we should be polite and take good care of our thin gs. We should love our life. I think proper comp etition can arouse the Ss’ inte rest in English learning. If the Ss can finish this task well, they will benefit a lot in their spoken English.

2.Skill 1 Model 1.

I’ll ask four Ss of the groups to write these sentences on the Bb in the four l ines.

Then check their handwriting, correct their mistakes. Find out who will write well and whose handing is the best.

3.Finish the Ss’ workbook.

Purpose of my designing: To check the knowledge Ss have learned in this less on.

Step5.Homework:

(1)Recite the words as many as possible after class.

(2)Make a dialogue according to Sample A and write it in the exercise book. Purpose of my designing: I think homework is so important that the Ss should speak English as much as they can in class or after class. It is necessary for the Ss to do some extensive exercises after class to consolidate the knowledg e they learned.

Well, firstly, I’ll talk about part 1 analysis of the te aching material. I have co ncluded the features of…….

1 . there are a lot pictures. For this, the kids will be interested in the book. As we all know that interest is best teacher for the students.

2. It lays stress on the communication. According to the problem of Chinese s tudents learning English , the book design a lot of material to improve the stu dents’ ability of listening speaking, reading, and writing. So I think the book i s very good.

Then I’ll talk about next part analysis of the students. It is known to us that t he kids are very active and like playing games very much, so during my class, I’ll design some interesting games to activate them to participate and learn so mething. They will also be interested in the class.

Next I’ll talk about teachi ng methods. My teaching methods are task-based app roach and situational approach. Using different methods can make the class act ive.

Let’s move on to another part, teaching aims and demands. There are knowled ge aims and ability aims.

Now I’ll talk about most important part teaching procedure. It consists of 5 st eps. Warning up, lead-in, contents key points and difficult points and homewor k.

Step1 is warming up. Her e I’ll use PPT to play a English song Bingo for the students and I’ll ask them try to follow it to sing together. By this, the stude nts can be interested in it and pay their attention to our class easily and impr ove their ability of speaking.

Unit 7 How much are these pants?

Section A

1) Material & aims

The material I am dealing with today is Unit 7 Section A. The main topic of this unit is shoppin g. Functions are “asking about prices and talking about clo thing and thanking someone”. We know, according to the current syllabus, one of the main aims of English teaching in junior middle school is to improve s tudents’ communicating ability in English. Then how can we develop students’communicating ability? As teachers, we should carry out the spirit of the syll abus in handling the teaching materials. And one more thing is that in Section A, there is only one sentence pattern: how much… It is very hard t o carry o ut the real shopping activity. What’s more, most students have learned English in primary schools. We should prepare something for these students. Therefore, I include other sentences like: here is the money, we spent… we get…

These are the teaching materials in this class, and above is why I add more s entence patterns to this class.

Because of the characteristics of the teaching materials and current level of Ju nior One students, I focus on these teaching aims.

(1) Learn and grasp the vocabulary and the sentence pattern: how much …

(2) Use the sentences they’ve learned to communicate.

(3) Describe the clothing items by using adjectives like red yellow big small and so on.

(4) Arouse the interest and confidence of learning English.

(5) Train t he students’ team spirit and gain appreciation from the experience o

f team work.

Among these aims, Aim 1 is set to increase and consolidate students’ language knowledge. Aim2 is set to students’ language competence. Aim 3 is to impro ve students’ language s kills. Aim 4 and 5 are to let students help each other, know one of the ways to teach themselves, or in other words, for the purpose of morality.

2) Teaching main points and difficult ones.

a. Learn and grasp the vocabulary and sentence patterns.

b. Learn and understand the function of asking and answering “how much” thr ough communicative activities.

c. Arouse the interest and confidence of English learning.

I have mentioned the main points in the above step and the difficult one is to enable the students to ask and answer about the prices.

How can we solve this problem?

3) Teaching procedures

For the whole class, “Super Student Contest” is just a clue to go through it. I use the clue because of the following reasons:

a. The students are very interested in the TV show “Super girl”.

b. The courage of super girls is worth owning.

c. It’s a contest. So it can train the students’ competitive spirit also team sp irit.

d. I want them to know if they work hard step by step, they are sure to ge t something.

They have many passes to go. If they do well in one pass, they can get an a pple.

The aims can be achieved only by carrying out the carefully designed teaching procedures. So the teaching procedure is arranged in the following way. Task1: Warming up

The first step is to use a song to warm up. A good presentation plays an imp ortant part in accomplishing the teaching aims of a class. It can warm up the class atmosphere and make it lively. It can activate the students. In this way, t he students can be “open” to the input. So at the beginning of the class, I wil l let them listen to a song: Ten little Indian boys.

This song is very funny. While listening to the song, I will let students stand up one by one to make it more interesting. Also it’s a good way to revise nu mbers. Then say “Welcome to ‘Super Student Contest’” to lead in the class. Task 2: Pass 1 Memory challenge

Show the students some pictures for a few seconds, then cover them. Let them guess what is in the picture. The purpose of this task is to c heck students’ p review work. The students are asked to learn how to pronounce and spell wor ds by themselves. In the traditional way, students were asked to follow the tea chers many times to read the new words. I am sure this method is far more p opular with students. Then the students read the words. Pointing to the picture and ask: what color is it? They may answer like this: the hat is yellow. Writ e on the blackboard: it’s a yellow hat. Then train with plural nouns. Then sho w two hats and two sweaters. Teach big, small, long and short. Make sure the students can say like this: it is a long green shirt. In this part, I will take re al objects as teaching items as students usually like this way.

Task3: Pass 2 Suit matching

Let one student whose clothes look very nice stand up. Say “it is a yellow shirt. These are long blue pants. They match well.” Then let them do group work. Each group offer the coolest suit matching. Show their suit in front of t he whole class. The students use their own clothes to do group work. It will enhance their initiative to study. The real purpose of this task is to develop th e students’ ability to describe something when they see it. By doing that, at th e same time, I think it offers an opportunity to tell what is beauty.

Task 3: Pass 3 Guessing the price

It’s very natural to go through this task when Task 2 is finished. Let the cool est suit stay. Ask about the price of the cheapest thing of his. “How much is your hat?” Help him to answer. Maybe, the students can’t understand. I pr ete nd to buy his hat and take out the money from my pocket. Then ask the stud ents the price of some cheap things. “How much is the eraser?” “It’s 1 yuan.”“How much are these two erasers?” “They are 2 yuan.” Ask them to guess t he price in pairs. Just like Li Yong does in “Lucy 52”. Show them a picture of Lily. Guess the price of her clothing. This task is set to practise the senten ce pattern: how much is this/ are these? Also let them know different countrie s use different money and know some market information.

Task 4: Pass 4 Listening challenge

We can’t neglect listening part as it is a very important skill. Show the pictur es and tell the colors and guess the price of the items. Say “let’s see if your guesses are right”. Listen to the tape and fill in the table with key information. The usual way of dealing listening material is to circle the thing students hea r. I’d like to let them do something different. The students need to consolidate what they talk about a moment before. I won’t let them fill in the c lothing it ems because they are familiar with the color words and number words. They will feel confident when they finish the task.

Task 5:Pass 5 The best imitator

Ask “what about the hat? How much is it?” to lead to this task. Listen once and answer the question. Listen and repeat. Then read in pairs. Try to imitate the pronunciation and intonation. Imitation is a good way to learn English well, especially for the beginners. Show them the judging standards to make clean what kind way of reading is appreciated. After the last pair finish reading, ask them questions about their old clothes.

Task 5: Pass 5 The best buyer/ seller

The most important task is Pass 6.Ask the students to bring old clothing to sc hool. Half of them are sellers. Half of them are buyers. They are sure to use the sentence patterns mentioned above. A: How much is /are…B: It’s…/They a re…A: Here is the money. B: Thank you. This task is very close to the real l ife. After that, the buyers and sellers fill in the forms.

Task 6: Discussion

In order to give them a right guide on how to spend money in a right way a nd not to waste anything, I’d like to ask them the question: how will you spe nd the money? This is an open question. Different answers are welcomed. This will give them a hint to think about their life.

Conclusion: Then it’s time for assess as a whole. Choose “No.1/2/3 Super Stu dent”. If they have the same amount of apples. Let them stand on the PK Stat

ion. Other students ask them some questions. If they are satisfied with their an swers, give them their apples. There will be another high in the class. Homework: Make up a dialogue about shopping.

I deal with Unit 7 Section A step by step, using task approach, learning b y doing, to make the students the real masters in class while the teacher acts as the director. With tasks, they take part in all kinds of activities and they so lve the problem.

Tools I use in this lesson are a computer, a tape recorder and students’ ol d clothing.

As we all know that interest is the best teacher of students. So I will try my best to attract the stu dents’ attentions by different ways. First, let me introduce myself. My name is Guo Xinzhi, and I am working as an English teacher in Yong’an Middle Sch ool, Congtai District of Handan. My topic today is taken from Lesson 37 of Unit 5 in Student Book 4. The main content of this unit is “Go With Transportation”, and the topic of Lesson 37 is “Flying Donuts”. I have decided to say the lesson from six parts: Part One——Analysis of the Teaching Material One: Status and Function 1. This unit tells us the improvement of traffic transportation and the related stories. Besides learning this, students will also learn some words, phrases and expressions of traffic, and so on. In Lesson 37, Danny will introduce a new type of transportation to us, it is imaginary. 2. To attain “four skills” request of listening, speaking, reading and writing, I will have the students do some exercise about the text. 3. Such a topic is very important in this unit. I will lead the students to use their imagination and encourage them to be creative. For example, helping them use English to describe their imaginary transportation. So I think if the students can learn this lesson well, it will be helpful to make them learn the rest of this unit. 4. While teaching them, I will also encourage them to say something about what they think the future transportations will be like. In a way, from practising such a topic, it can be helpful to raise learning interests of students and it will be also helpful to improve their spoken language.
