短文通过厨师的亲身经历向学生说明了遇到突发事件时应该沉着冷静，尽力想办法自救。
教师可以多搜集一些相关图片向学生展示，介绍相关常识，或者让学生分享自己所知道的急救知识。
课文的标题是英式幽默在思维方式上的一种体现:用一种幽默的方式来讲述严肃的道理。
“遇到意外如何自救”本是严肃话题，，而本文则以英式幽默讲述了一种自救的方法，并通过标题说明了自救行为(给蛇照相，以便医生知道是什么蛇，是否有毒)。
第三单元语篇一描述了一只幸运的猫试图从鱼缸中抓鱼，但是却打翻鱼缸，巨大的声音惊到了正在客厅看书的Alice，把这只猫解救出来，并带它去浴室清洁的故事。
