The idea is if you’re a little bit distracted (分心的) from the task at hand by ambient stimuli (环境刺激), it develops your thinking ability, which can lead to more creative ideas. While that ideal level of noise is different for everyone, audio (声音的) stimuli in the background also help us improve decision making. As a school student, this is probably a common experience for you. But thanks to new rules, many students in Zhejiang and Heilongjiang provinces can now stay in bed longer than before. On Feb 23th, the Zhejiang Department of Education published a new guideline that asks primary schools to start school later. According to the guideline, start times could vary among different grades and seasons, with students in Grade 1 and 2 starting no earlier than 8:30a.m. A similar guideline was announced by the education department in Heilongjiang province on Feb 24th. Since the new term began in March, students from all primary and junior high schools have been required to arrive at school no earlier than 8 a.m. And senior high school students are now required to arrive at school no earlier than7:30a.m. These changes are aimed at making sure students get adequate sleep and enough time for breakfast. According to a 2016 study, only 54.1 percent of students in Grade 4 slept 9 hours or more a night, while the required sleep time for primary students is 10 hours. These changes have received much praise. “I definitely welcome the move, since this will ensure my son has enough time for breakfast, which is important for his health and growth,” a mother from Hangzhou told China Daily. Pushing back school times isn’t unique to China. In the United States, schools in at least 21 states began to start school later in 2017. If your answer is "no," then you are probably a millennial. Millennials are the new generation(代) of young Americans. They were born between 1982 and 1992. There are 33 million of them, and they are just starting to enter the workforce(劳动力). Many experts(专家) believe that millennials are different from young Americans of past generations. They also believe that millennials will change the workforce in important ways. How are millennials different? They are the first generation born in the computer age. The Internet has always been a part of their lives. They spend about 16 hours a week on the Internet, and this doesn't include e-mail. And they spend 72 hours a week using other electronic media(媒体), including mobile phones and video games. They are "native speakers" of the language of the computer age. People who were born earlier will never be native speakers of that language. Why not? They did not grow up "speaking" it.How will millennials change the workforce? To answer that question, it is important to understand how the millennials use the Internet. They use the Internet to communicate. They visit websites such as FaceBook and MySpace every day. They share(分享) ideas, music, information, games, and friendships with people all over the world. When they start working, they will want to share their work and ideas with others. It is also important to understand the way millennials grew up. Their parents and teachers gave them a lot of attention. They taught them that their opinions were valuable(有价值的). As a result, many millennials are very confident. At work, they will expect their co-workers and bosses to listen to their opinions.Millennials also grew up with lots of structure in their lives. Many of them went to school at the age of two or three and played on sports teams. At work, they will expect the rules to be clear. They will also expect a strong but fair boss, like a coach on a sports team. They will follow the person in charge(主管) if he or she is fair. But they will not follow an unfair boss. They will also expect their work to be fun and creative, similar to their experiences on a sports team. These are a few of the changes that experts believe that millennials will bring to the American workforce. But the world is changing very fast. There will probably be more changes that are difficult to imagine today.1.According to the first paragraph of the passage, which of the following in NOT true?A.Millennials belong to a new generation.B.Millennials were born about ten years ago.C.Millennials are entering the workforce.D.Millennials know little about the world before the Internet.2.Which is the main reason that makes the experts believe milennials are different from young Americans of past generations?A.Millennials can speak a better native language.B.Millennials grow up with computers and the Internet.C.Millennials use mobile phones and e-mails often.D.Millennials spend long hours playing video games.3.Why do the Millennials expect to share their work and ideas with others?A.Because they know how to use the Internet to make new friends.B.Because they understand how to communicate with new friends.C.Because they grow up sharing ideas, music, information with others by the Internet.D.Because the Internet can provide all the information they need.4.According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?A.Millennials grow up with more attention from their teachers and parents.B.Many millennials are showing more confidence than the others at work.C.Many millennials give more valuable opinions to their co-workers and bosses.D.Many of the millennials have had fun and creative experience when they are on sports teams.5.From the passage we know that ________.A.the number of the millennials had come to 33 million by the end of 1982B.most of the millennials learn their native computer languages in schoolsC.millennials require their bosses to be healthier and the rules clearer at workD.more changes will probably be brought to the American workforce by millennialsC15、It seems that there’s a good reason why dogs are always seen as man’s best friend. Scientists have found that dogs are the only animals that can read emotion(情感)in faces much like humans. The finding suggests that like an understanding friend, dogs can see if we are happy, sad, pleased or angry. When humans look at a new face, their eyes usually look across the left, falling on the right hand side of the person’sface first. A possible reason for this is that the right side of the human face is better at expressing emotions.Scientists have now shown that pet dogs also have “left gaze bias(左视偏好)”, but only when looking at human faces. No other animal has been known to do like this before. Dr. Kun Guo with his team showed 17 dogs the pictures of human, dog and monkey faces as w ell as something else. The dogs’ eyes and heads show a strong left gaze bias when the animals see human faces. But this did not happen when they were shown other pictures, including those of dogs.Guo suggests that over thousands of years living with humans, dogs may have developed the left gaze bias as a way to guess our emotions.“Recent studies show that the right side of our faces can express emotions better than the left. If true, then it makes sense for dogs and humans to see the right hand side of a face first.”1.Why are dogs seen as man’s best friend according to the passage?A.Because dogs are the closest animals to humans.B.Because dogs can read the emotions in humans’ faces easily.C.Because dogs can understand us better when we feel sad.D.Because dogs are good at expressing emotions.2.The dogs’ left gaze bias helps them _______.A.get along well with humansB.express emotions quicklyC.have more understanding friendsD.remember more new faces3.The passage mainly wants to tell us that _______.A.dogs have been man’s best friends for thousands of yearsB.humans have a “left gaze bias”C.the “left gaze bias” works on all animalsD.dogs can read emotions the same as humansD16、New York is 3 hours ahead of California, but it does not make California slow, or that New York is fast. Some get rid of nap time. They think time spent sleeping is wasted time. And they feel kids may not really need to nap (午睡) anyway.Ending afternoon naps might be a mistake, though. A new study looked at school nap time. It shows that going without a nap can cause problems for some children. That makes it harder for them to remember what they learn. The new study was done by Rebecca Spencer and Tracy Riggins. Both are scientists who study learning and memory.Children need less sleep as they get older. However, children are not all the same. They stop needing to nap at different ages. Some stop napping every day by age 4. Others still nap daily at age 6. Also, the need to nap doesn’t just suddenly disappear, Spencer said. It can come and go as children develop. Children grow very quickly. All that growth can be tiring. Children may be fine without naps at one point. A month later, they may need to take naps again. All children need a good night’s sleep in order to remember and learn. However, some children need more sleep than others. To keep what they’ve learned, these children need to nap during the day. Nighttime sleep just isn’t enough. Riggins and Spencer set out to prove this. They asked children at six preschools to play a memory game. After the children finished the game, some were told to nap. The others were kept from napping. The following morning, the two scientists brought the children back. They wanted to test how much the children remembered from the day before. They found some big differences.Students who were kept awake forgot more than students who had napped.Scientist Peg Oliveira has also studied nap time. She says school naps can be particularly important for kids who might be suffering from (遭受) tough times at home. They often get less sleep at home than other kids. Some do not have their own room. Others may be homeless at times.“Those kids might not be having a solid night of sleep,” Oliveira said. For them, school nap time is extra important. 1.The underline phrase “get rid of” in Paragraph 1 can most probably be changed by ”A.don’t mind B.are afraid of C.keep away from D.happily agree2.From the study of Rebecca Spencer and Tracy Riggins, the need to nap depends onA.how old the children are B.children’s developmentC.children’s sleeping hours at night D.children’s timetable3.According the passage, which of the followings is NOT TRUE?A.Children who often nap can remember what they learn easily.B.In the game, the students who had napped get better results.C.The kids who had hard times may not need more naps.D.Some children need to nap because they don’t have enough sleep time at night.4.According to the passage, the writer is eager to tell us that .A.children do not pay attention to naps at schoolB.children need both night’s sleep and school napC.there are just two ages for children to stop daily napsD.nap time is very important during the growth of children5.The passage is most probably taken from .A.a science magazine B.a news report C.a story book D.a history researchD16、What do people drink in Western countries? I remember one of those times especially I was the youngest and smallest of all the kids there, so I got caught first and couldn’t catch anyone else. Although I tried my best to chase after my brothers and cousins, they were all too fast for me. I grew more and more frustrated. I finally lunged(猛扑) at one of my brothers and fell face first into the dirt. I got up with tears in my eyes. Then I saw one of my cousins standing there. She started to run but ran much more slowly than before. I easily caught up and tagged her. Then she turned to me, smiled and said, “I’m it! You’d better run!” I ran off laughing with joy while she turned and started to chase one of my older brothers. I see now how her act of kindness that day saved me from sadness and returned me to joy. It didn’t matter that we hardly ever saw each other. We were family and she loved me. We are all one, we all belong to each other and we are one big beautiful family. 16.The underlined word “Those” in Paragraph 3 refers to “________”. 丧)is a form of energy, so it does need to come out,” he says. “I would encourage them to scream.”“Screaming, after all, is a good form of getting frustration out as long as it doesn’t include cursing(咒骂),” Oliver says.“Once they are over 12, they really should have the skills to control themselves a little bit.” says Oliver.“Anyone under 13, it’s somewhat understandable for them to be frustrated when they can’t deal with a problem,” he says. “A common mistake is to try to avoid making a scene in public,” Oliver says. Remember that your long-term goal as a parent is your child’s emotional stability(情绪稳定). “The parents have to keep in mind that they’re working on a long-term basis here. If they think about other people’s feelings in public, they’re going to lose the chance to teach their kid a lifelong skill that they’re going to need,” he says. “What other people might judge or think is not as important as how their kid turns out after 18 years.” So what should parents do when their kids start screaming? Let their children realize that they can work through it.“The kids really need to realize, feeling bad is not terrible, I can work through this, rather than
