I've had to develop much better time management and study skills this year. My parents have been great about helping me set up an organized system for keeping track of deadlines and not procrastinating. As long as I plan ahead, it's all manageable.Along with more academic responsibilities, 7th grade has brought more independence and freedoms. At my school, 7th graders get a little more privileges than the younger kids, like being allowed to walk around campus unescorted during free periods. We also get to go on really cool field trips that tie into what we're learning, like visiting historical sites and museums. My personal favorite was the three-day camping trip with the science club where we got to explore nature and learn about ecosystems firsthand.Socially, the move to 7th grade has been an adjustment too.I no longer have the same close-knit friend group I've had since kindergarten. A lot of my friends went to other middle schools, so I've had to make new friends and work at maintaining my old friendships through texting and social media. It was daunting at first to walk into a new school not knowing many people. But I've been lucky to find a great new group of friends who make me laugh and have similar interests. We really bonded over joining the same clubs and sports teams.One of the best things about 7th grade has been getting to join the school's athletic teams and clubs. There are so many more opportunities than elementary school. This year I did cross country in the fall, basketball over the winter, and just started playing tennis this spring which I'm really enjoying. I've also joined the art club, math club, and student council which keeps me super busy but in an exciting way. Being involved in all these activities is great for exploring interests, meeting new people, and having fun.Overall, this year of 7th grade has been equal parts exciting, overwhelming, challenging, and rewarding. I could hardly sit still during my classes, anxiously waiting for that final bell to ring. As soon as it did, I raced out of the building towards freedom for the next few months. No more teachers, no more homework, no more waking up early. Just endless days of fun and adventure stretching out before me.This summer was going to be extra special because my family was taking a big trip.
