阅读文章Every morning my father buys a newspaper on his way to work. Every evening my mother looks through (浏览)magazines at home. And every night, I look at the posters (海报) with photos of David Beckham and Yao Ming on my bedroom wall before I go to sleep. Can we imagine life without paper or printing?About 2, 000 years ago, paper was invented in China. Then people learned to write words on paper to make a book. But in those days, they could only write books by hand. So, books were expensive and rare (珍贵的)at that time. And because there weren't many books, few people learned to read. Then printing was invented in China and it developed greatly at the beginning of the 11th century. Then people could print books quickly and cheaply (便宜地). As a result, more people learned to read. After that, knowledge and ideas spread quickly.Today with the help of the Internet we can connect and share information quickly. We can also read newspapers and magazines online. But will the computer replace (替代) books one day? No, I don't think the poster of Yao Ming on my bedroom wall will ever be replaced by a computer of two metreshigh!试着做一做1~2题完成句子;3 题简略回答问题;4题找出并写下第二段的主题句;5题将文中画线句子译成汉语。

The rubbish blows into your yard. The man next door always parks his car in front of your drive.Have things like this ever happened to you? If so, you may ask yourself,"Who are these people? Why are they doing these things to me?"These days, many people don't know their neighbors. Sometimes we share a friendly smile or say hello, but lots of people don't even know their neighbor's names! When you don't know someone, it's easy to be angry when something has happened that you think is unfair. You think," Maybe they like to make me angry," or "Maybe they do it on purpose. " Believe it or not, your neighbors probably don't mean to irritate(激怒) you. Often, they don't even know that they're making you feel angry. So before you take unusual steps to fix the problem, you should discuss it with them first. When you move towards your neighbors, you should talk to them in a friendly manner. Praise their children to make them feel good. Then explain the situation. And if you can think of a simple way to solve the problem, suggest it.If talking doesn't work, ask another person to help. This person can listen to both sides of the story and help you and your neighbor solve the situation. Finally, sometimes it's a good idea to avoid the problem. We have been taught from a young age that the color red means danger and green means it's okay to move forward. But why were those colors chosen for traffic lights in the first place? For something we have to look at every day, why couldn't tliey have been prettier colors?Well, it's important to know that before traffic lights for cars, there were traffic signals for trains. At first, railway companies used red to mean stop, white to mean go, and green to mean warn.As you could imagine, trains ran into a few problems with white meaning go. For example, one train mistook a bright star for a white light and something unexpected happened. Because of that, railway companies finally moved green meaning go and used yellow to mean warn. And it's been that way ever since.Red has always been a color that meant danger, long before cars were even around. This most likely started because it's the color with the longest wavelength (波长)so it can be seen somewhere farther than other colors. But, believe it or not, yellow was once used to mean stop. Back in the 1900s, some stop signs were yellow because it was too hard to see a red sign in a poorly lit area. Finally, highly reflective materials(高反射材料) were developed and red stop signs were bom. Since yellow can be seen well at all times of the day, school zones, some traffic signs, and school buses continue to be printed yellow. So next time you are impatiently waiting at a traffic light, don't get so mad at them, they've certainly come a long way.( )1. Unit1 拓展阅读阅读理解A体裁:说明文题材:社会文化词数难度:中建议用时:8分钟The British are known for their sense of humour. However,it is often difficult for foreigners to understand their jokes. The main point to remember is that the British often use understatement.Understatement means saying less than you think or feel. For example,if someone gets very wet in a shower of rain,he might say,“It’s a little damp(潮湿的)outside.” Or,if someone is very impolite and shouts at another person, someone else might say, “She isn’t exactly friendly.” Understatement is used in unpleasant situations or to make another person look silly. Understatement plays an important part in British humour.Another key to understanding British humour that the British like to make fun of themselves as well as others. They often laugh about the silly and unpleasant things that happen to their everyday life, for example, when someone accidentally falls over in the street. They also like to make jokes about people from different classes of society. They like to make joke about their accents, the way they dress and the way they behave. What’s more, the British love to watch comedies about people who do not know how to behave in society. The comedy series Mr Bean is a good example of this kind of humour. Mr Bean is the character created by British actor Rowan Atkinson in 1990.Mr bean doesn’t talk often, and instead he uses his body movements and facial expressions to make people laugh. Perhaps what makes Mr Bean so funny is that he does things that adults in the real world cannot do. Mr Bean is popular in many countries around the world because you do not have to speak English to understand the humour. Because of this, many people have become familiar with the British sense of humour.1. Why is it difficult for foreigners to understand British jokes?A. The British often enlarge the fact.B. However,we would benefit a lot by changing our focus, according to communication skills trainer Marianna Pascal.Pascal has spent 20 years in Malaysia helping people speak better English. Over time, she has discovered the surprising truth How well somebody communicates in a new language has very little to do with his or her language level—but a lot more to do with the attitude.Pascal noticed that a lot of Malaysians went into English conversations with the feeling that they were going to be judged by how many mistakes they were going to make. And they had the idea of what good and proper English is supposed to be and how far they would have to go to get there. As a teacher, she’d noticed one special student named Faisal. Despite not knowing much English, this boy could just sit and listen to anybody very calmly and then he could express his thoughts clearly.Pascal realised when Faisal entered into an English conversation, he didn’t feel judged. He entirely focused on the person he was speaking to and the result he wanted to get. He had no thoughts on his own mistakes.Pascal believes that speaking a language is not like those exams that many of us have to take in school, where a tiny spelling or grammar mistake would result in a big red “×” from the teacher. In the real world. small mistakes don’t matter—what matters is whether we’re able to make ourselves understood. She concludes, “If you want to speak English like Faisal with that great confidence, here’s one thing that you can do when you speak: Don’t focus on yourself. Focus on the other person and the result you want to achieve.”1. Why was Faisal successful in English conversation according to Pascal?A. His spoken English was quite excellent.B. His attitude to speaking English was right.C. He and his partner were good friend.D. He made few grammatical mistakes.2. What is Pascal’s attitude to the mistakes English learners make?A. Tolerant.B. Careful.C. Grateful.D. Worried.3. What should you do if you want to communicate effectively in English?A. Try to express yourself correctly.B. Remember to use advanced grammar.C. Avoid any mistakes while speaking.D Concentrate on what the other people say.刷7选5体裁:说明文题材:介绍说明词数:232 难度:中建议用时:7分钟The English language has many ways to talk about something that is funny. 1 It is a basic human need Physical humour, especially, can cross limits like nationality and language and bring people together from all different walks of life.Humour comes in many forms. Every morning my father buys a newspaper on his way to work. Every evening my mother looks through (浏览)magazines at home. And every night, I look at the posters (海报) with photos of David Beckham and Yao Ming on my bedroom wall before I go to sleep. Can we imagine life without paper or printing?
About 2, 000 years ago, paper was invented in China.
After that, knowledge and ideas spread quickly.
Today with the help of the Internet we can connect and share information quickly. We can also read newspapers and magazines online. But will the computer replace (替代) books one day? No, I don't think the poster of Yao Ming on my bedroom wall will ever be replaced by a computer of two metres high!
