一、教学内容分析
本板块的主题是“通过历史了解一个国家的概况”(Learn about a country through history )。学生迪过阅读英国历史的简要发展进程，了解英国地理、社会及文化概况，并深入思考历史与社会文化之间的关系。英国是最主要的英语国家之一，有着悠久的历史和文化，而英语语言也正是在这种历史和文化中产生的，所以英语语言富有鲜明的英国文化特征。因此，学习英语必然要了解英国文化，了解英国文化也会对学习英语起到促进作用。
二、学情分析
本课授课对象为高一平行班学生，高一的学生已经有了一定的词汇基础，掌握了一定高中英语学习的方法。但是大部分学生还缺少自主学习能力，和举一反三的能力。学生对于英国历史不太熟悉，对文本理解会略显困难。学生可能掌握不了看英文地图的要领。在讨论开放性问题时，学生可能无法用英语准确地表述出自己的想法。因此教师需要降低教学环节的难度设置，并且需要多引导学生。
三、教学目标

指导思想与理论依据
一、基于“六要素”整合的英语学习活动观：
本次教学设计以《普通高中英语课程标准（2017年版2022年修订）》为指导，在本单元“人与社会”大主题语境下，本课选取“重大政治、历史事件，文化渊源”有关的内容授课，并以“What’s in a name”这一科普类说明文语篇为依托，整合语言知识、文化知识、语言技能和学习策略等学习内容，创设具有综合性、关联性和实践性的英语学习活动，实现学生从学习理解到应用实践最后到迁移创新的逐步学习，引导学生采用自主、合作的学习方式，探究、领悟“学习一个国家的历史和文化有助于帮助我们对这个国家的认识和理解”这一主题意义，并从中学习包含“military defence、legal system”等主题词汇、“belong to、as well as”等词组及一些句式等的语言知识，发展语言技能，促进多元思维，鼓励学生学习各国历史文化，尊重各国文化，增长自身见识，确保语言能力、文化意识、思维品质和学习能力的同步提升。
二、基于大观念的单元整体教学：
基于大观念的单元整体教学设计是指教师基于课程标准，围绕特定主题，深入解读、分析、整合和重组教材等教学资源后，结合学习主体的需求，搭建起的一个由单元大主题统领、各语篇子主题相互关联、逻辑清晰的完整教学单元，使教学能够围绕一个完整的单元主题设定目标，引导学生通过对不同单一语篇小观念的学习和提炼并建立关联，生成基于该单元主题的大观念。
本单元围绕“历史与文化”这一主题，整合各语篇的主题意义，并根据其间关联提炼出学生需要逐层建构的“小观念”。在小观念的基础上提炼出本单元的大观念“了解世界各国历史文化，理解其文化内涵；站在国际视野角度深刻认识中国文化，树立中国文化自信，用“美的眼睛”欣赏各国文化和描述其历史人文景观”，学生在本单元的学习中学习中国历史文化，站在国际视野的视角欣赏中国文化内涵底蕴，增加文化自豪感、文化自信；同时，秉持着开放包容的态度，了解认识外国历史文化与传统，探索中外文化交流的必要性与意义，培养国际视野；最后，自主探索某国或某地历史文化，培养“发现美的眼睛”，使用本课学习的主题词汇、句式及过去式语法描述某国或某地历史文化或人文景观，达到国际视野的进一步提升及中国文化自信的深度培养。
