克里斯托夫.马洛（1564——1593）出生在坎特伯雷鞋商之家。在剑桥期间，他开始致力于文学创作。他的剧作《帖木儿》就是他从剑桥毕业前完成的，一经演出便大获成功。1584年，他来到伦敦，深受文艺复兴思潮的影响，这在他的剧作《浮士德博士的悲剧》中有所体现。
