We took a million pictures of the amazing views from all the different overlooks. It's definitely one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.After a few days at the Grand Canyon, we drove to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. This place was like something from another planet! There were bright colored hot springs and geysers erupting boiling hot water hundreds of feet into the air. My favorite was called Old Faithful because it erupts like clockwork every 90 minutes or so. We watched it go off twice and it was amazing. The whole park smells like rotten eggs from all the sulfur and geothermal activity. There were also herds of massive bison roaming around freely, which was so cool to see.From Yellowstone we drove through Montana and up into Alberta, Canada to visit the Canadian Rockies. They have these gorgeous bright blue lakes nestled among towering, snowy mountain peaks. We saw Lake Louise and Moraine Lake whichwere both insanely beautiful shades of blue. It's from all the minerals and rock flour in the glacier water. We went hiking on some trails around the lakes and looked for wildlife like mountain goats, bighorn sheep, and bears but we didn't see any bears thankfully! The snowcapped mountain scenery was just breathtaking.Our last stop before heading home was Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. We walked the trail along the base looking up at the gigantic carved president faces which was very impressive. It's amazing that people were able to carve something so massive into the side of a mountain like that. They looked so detailed and lifelike up close. We also went to the museum and learned all about how it was built which was really interesting.On our drive home we saw lots of flat open plains and heartland farmland across states like Nebraska and Iowa which was pretty boring after all the incredible nature we had seen! Overall though, it was the best road trip ever. I took so many pictures and have a zillion amazing memories from all the national parks and landmarks we visited. We stopped at this really old western town that's now just a tourist attraction. We got to go inside an actual saloon from the 1800s and pan for gold like old miners used to do. That was probably my favorite stop those first couple of days.After the desert, we started going through flatter lands with huge farms spreading out as far as you could see in every direction. We stopped at the World's Largest Truck Stop, which was basically just a tiny town wrapped around a big parking lotfor semis. But it had a super cool museum all about the history of trucking and we got to go inside the world's largest truck! My mind was blown by how enormous it was.Once we crossed into the Midwest, everything was just flat land and corn fields for hours and hours. So much has happened over the past few years that it's hard to remember it all. But 5th grade has definitely been one of the most exciting years yet!The beginning of the school year was a bit nerve-wracking. I had a new teacher, Mrs. Patterson, and I wasn't sure what to expect. Some of the older kids had warned me that 5th grade would be really tough with way more homework and harder tests.I was pretty worried! But Mrs. Patterson turned out to be really nice. She does give us a lot of work, but she also makes lessons fun with games, projects, and group activities.One of the best parts of 5th grade has been getting to go on cool field trips. Writing has been hard too, with having to learn all the different essay formats and doing lots of research papers. I've had to spend a lot more time on homework this year compared to previous grades. Sometimes it feels like my backpack weighs a ton from carrying home all my books and binders!Even though the work can be tough, I've been getting better at time management and study skills. Mrs. Patterson taught us tricks like using flashcards, rewriting our notes, and making detailed outlines before writing essays. I've also had to get stricter about not procrastinating and putting things off until the last minute. The canyon was massive, and the colors of the rocks were breathtaking. We went on a hiking trail that took us down into the canyon a little bit. It was a bit scary at first because the trail was narrow, and there were steep drop-offs on either side. However, my parents assured me it was safe, and we had an experienced guide leading us. As we descended, the canyon walls seemed to tower above us, and the scenery was simply stunning.After a few days at the Grand Canyon, we headed to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. This park is famous for its geysers, hot springs, and abundant wildlife. One of the highlights was watching Old Faithful, the famous geyser that erupts every hour or so. We also visited the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, and I couldn't believe how massive those trees were! Some of them were over 2,000 years old and wider than my entire house.Our final stop was the Redwood National and State Parks in Northern California. These parks are home to some of the tallest trees on Earth, the coastal redwoods. We went on a nature walk through the redwood forest, and I felt like a tiny ant among those gigantic trees. The air was cool and crisp, and the forest was so peaceful and serene. I even got to touch the bark of one of the redwoods, and it was incredibly soft and spongy.Overall, our summer road trip was an unforgettable experience. I learned so much about the natural wonders of our country and the importance of preserving these beautiful places for future generations.
