What is Intercultural communication? Can you provide an explanation of your understanding of the Intercultural communication?
Intercultural communication在谷歌翻译中被译为：跨文化交际；跨文化交流；国际文化交流。
在3个不同版本的中文翻译中，虽然字面翻译有一定差距，但在我看来，三者所表达的内容都是不同语言或文化背景的人之间进行的交流或交际活动。
以下为表达简便，都用“跨文化交流”表达其中意思。
一、分解词义辨析
1. 文化
（1）广义文化指人类在社会历史发展过程中所创造的物质财富和精神财富的总和。
它包括物质文化、制度文化和心理文化三个方面。
物质文化是指人类创造的种种物质文明，包括交通工具、服饰、日常用品等，它是一种可见的显性文化；制度文化和心理文化分别指生活制度、家庭制度、社会制度以及思维方式、宗教信仰、审美情趣，它们属于不可见的隐性文化。
包括文学、哲学、政治等方面内容。
（2）狭义文化指社会的意识形态以及与之相适应的制度和组织机构，指人们普遍的社会习惯，如衣食住行、风俗习惯、生活方式、行为规范等。
由此可见，不论是从广义还是狭义来讲，文化产生于人类历史发展中，不同群体、不同地区会产生不同的“文化”。
毛泽东:“一定的文化（当作观念形态的文化）是一定社会的政治和经济的反映，又经予伟大影响和作用于一定社会后政治和经济。
”Matthew Arnold曾说过：“文化，让我们开阔视野，见贤思齐，紧跟人类精神前进的脚步。
”在当今全球化的新时代，各地区、各民族、各种族、各宗教之间文化与文化的碰撞日渐加剧，因此，不论是哪种文化，想要在全球化的大趋势下获得话语权都必须加入到世界文化交流的群体中来，避免边缘化，并在交流与碰撞中进步。
2. 交流
交流是信息互换、相互沟通的过程。
所谓交流，用自己通俗的话讲就是在沟通过程中达成信息互换的结果，你从我口中得到了你想获得的信息，我问出我想知道的，你给出回答。
从个人层面来讲，与别人沟通和交流是一个具有社会属性的自然人必不可少的活动。
更进一步，
就如蒙田所说：与别人交流有助于自己的思想的修养。
从团体层面说，不仅有团体内部的交流，更有与外部的交流。
内部的交流让团体更加凝结，达成一致；而与外部的交流有助于团体获得有利信息，获得更好更长足的发展。
从国家层面来讲，协调社会各阶层的相互关系，使国家内部团结统一依靠交流与沟通。
国与国之间的利益关系、各协议的达成也需依靠不断地交涉。
说得更远一点，星球、星系之间信息的交换也需依靠交流与沟通。
由此可见，交流之重要，就如同食物于人之重要。
3.跨文化交流
跨文化交流是指来自不同文化背景的人们相互交流的一种情境。
它的重要和独特之处在于，文化的不同，交流者固有的背景、经历和假定的差异，都会使交流异常艰难，有时甚至根本无法开展。
这种交流方式的关键因素是文化以及文化对你的交流行为的影响。
文化决定一个人的信仰、价值观和世界观，决定了使用的语言、非语言行为和与他人联系的方式。
可以看出，文化是复杂的、多维度的和无处不在的，它形成无数人完整的生活方式。

二、研究跨文化交流
1. 跨文化交流的两种主要交流形式

它包括不同群体文化之间诸如非裔美国人、亚裔美国人、土著美国人和拉美裔美国人的交流，还有妇女、同性恋者和残疾人之间的交流。
