编故事巧记单词
编故事巧记单词（高中）1999年春天，在北京大学的未名湖畔，我在编写一部趣味记忆英语单词的书《亲切回归》时，把几个结构相似的单词用故事情节串起来，写下了这么一个“词串”：-猫和老鼠-有一个rat（老鼠）*非常地fat（肥胖）跳进了vat（缸）偷吃了salt（盐）变成了bat（蝙蝠）气坏了cat（猫）咬破了hat（帽子）当成了mat（垫子）*写完以后，当时没有觉得有什么特别的，就把它收录到书里，连同我编写的其他几部趣味学英语的著作一起，在2000年11月由在北京的中国致公出版社出版。
这几部书出版以后，引起了比较好的反响，经常收到全国各地不知名的地方邮寄的询问信函和汇款，希望能购买到这些书；国内著名的网站新浪网教育频道和英语频道把这几部作品以精品介绍的形式向网民推介，而载有这个“词串”的《亲切回归》一书更被全文刊载到新浪网上，许多网民读者踊跃评论，对这个只有八个单词的小品有很多好评。
在这同时，英语教师刘纳女士在北京大学等许多大学举办讲座时，把这个小“词串”收录到自己的讲课教材中，学生反应很好，很多同学希望能学到更多的像这样的“词串”。
于是我又抽出时间又编写了大约一百串这样的“词串”，为了验证效果，在北京海淀区的几所大学和中小学向学生们传授，学生均能很快掌握，不少学生能半天记住50个以上的新单词而且可以闭上眼睛重复出来，而且学习起来兴趣浓厚，一再要求增加内容。
有的学员甚至从千里之外的浙江、大连等地专程到北京来听我讲趣味记忆单词的课程，一直坚持到最后；还有不少是学生和家长一起来听课学习。
从他们快速取得的进步和满意而归的表情，我坚信这样学英语的方法卓有成效的。
英语有大量的单词需要记忆，但国内很多大学毕业生甚至研究生和博士生词汇量严重不足，连简单的英文日报阅读起来都非常吃力，说明传统的教学方法有很大需要改进的余地。
尤其在是知识信息和爆炸的时代，效率和时效性已经成为一个衡量学习效果的重要杠杆。
把英语单词按结构形式归类，比如把“west”和“pest”放在一起学习，可以一定程度上提高学习效率，已经成为不争的事实。
