书法创作的“动”与“静”
书法创作通过笔的挥运、字的造型，创作出或端庄或奇逸的书法形象。
由于字体的不同，汉字书法在整体意象上可以分为“静态”与“动态”两种形态。
篆书、隶书和楷书均以静态的端庄、和谐、匀称、秀整取胜，它们表现的是理性的结构美与典雅的宁静美。
行书和草书则以动态的变化、运动、穿插、避让和险绝取胜，表现的是“山风海涛”般的运动美与气势美。
清代刘熙载在《艺概·书概》中说的“楷书居静以治动，草书居动以治静”就指出了楷书与草书在形式美特征上的基本差别，同时也提出了楷书宜静中有动、草书宜动中有静的创作法则。
站在抽象的表现主义立场来看，楷书(或者篆、隶)主要是通过理性与秩序，创作出有序的结构和静态的画面，表现的是一种“冷抽象”(理性为主，感性为辅);而草书(包括行书)主要是通过笔势的承接、呼应，结构的夸张、变形，笔意的奔放、恣肆，创作出随机的、灵动的动态画面，表现的是一种“热抽象”(感性为主，理性为辅)。
但是书法创作的“动”与“静”、“冷”与“热”又不是绝对的、极端的，而是相对的、兼容的。
例如行楷与行草的创作就是静中有动，动中有静。
另外像篆书中的金文、甲骨，虽然字字独立，但字形本身仍有动态表现;楷书与隶书虽然字形规范，缺少动感，但在用笔与线条上仍能表现出或刚劲、或雄浑。
或恬淡、或秀整的不同意态。
实际上，楷书、隶书与大篆、小篆也都有一定的动势，不过这种动势是隐性的、内在的、不易察觉的。
司徒越在谈书法的结字与章法
时就曾一针见血地指出，各种书体有它的飞动之势，而且特别强调了金文和草书的“飞动之势”。
在创作上，司徒越能将金文的笔法与笔意融入草书创作，将金文书法的“见龙在田”转化为狂草书法的“飞龙在天”，是与他对书法动静关系的深刻认识密不可分的。
对刘熙载所说的“楷书居静以治动，草书居动以治静”，我们也可以作反向思维，即将刘氏的这句话改为“楷书居动以治静，草书居静以治动”，则可以有新的认识与解释。
草书的线条、结构是以动态取胜，但是在创作草书作品时既可以有解衣盘礴、任意挥洒的创作方式，也可以有“默坐静思、气不盈息”，以冷静的笔触表现沉潜激情的创作方式。
以笔者的创作体会，这样的创作方式更容易获得成功的作品。
因为激情只有在理性的控制下得到合理发挥，才会有成功的创作，反之就会“亢龙有悔”，达不到表现的目的。
而在楷书创作中，追求“静”气固然重要，但是这种“静”不应当是机械、死板的写字，而应该是充满情趣的、动态的、鲜活自然的书写。
所以说“草书居静以治动”和“楷书居动以治静”，同样也是行之有效的创作法则。
事实上，书法家的精神气度与艺术功力主要表现在用笔造型中动静关系的处理上。
无论是“居静以治动”抑或是“居动以治静”，都需要书法家具有动静自如、吞吐大荒的精神气度，优秀的书法作品中那种感人的线条律动主要是来源于那动静一如、迟速应心的超妙心灵世界。
