顾秀莲女士的经历是非常全面的,她曾经担任国家计划委员会副主任兼国家计生委副主任,还担任过江苏省省长、化学工业部部长。
近十年来,她一直在全国妇联担任领导职务,98年至今是全国人大常委会副委员长、全国妇联副主席、书记处第一书记。
在今年第十届全国人大换届当中,她当选为全国人大常委会副委员长。
与顾主席一起出席今天记者会的是全国妇联副主席、书记处书记华福周女士。

在大会开幕前夕,我想就中国妇女发展状况给大家做一个介绍。
第一,中国妇女发展取得长足进步,中国妇女运动得到蓬勃的发展。
在过去的五年里,中国妇女发展状况得到明显改善,妇女事业也取得了长足的发展。
广大妇女参加了经济建设和社会发展,做出了很大的贡献,也取得了卓越的成就,无论是在政治、经济、文化、家庭等各个方面都得到了进一步的发展。

在目前来讲,我们有7位女士担任党和国家的领导人,国务院里面有29个组成部门中有正副女部长14人,省、地、县都配备了女干部,一共是5056人,省里面四套班子里配领导干部,也是部省干部有11人,在地方、人大的选举中,女性参与率与参选率是73.4%。
第二,妇女劳动就业的权利进一步得到保障。
农村妇女增强了依靠科技增收的意识和能力,有1亿多农村妇女掌握了1至2门农业新技术,成为农业经济、治理生态环境的重要力量。
在城镇里面,女职工占职工总数的37.9%,特别是最近几年,中小企业训练发展非常快。
第三,妇女总体受教育程度明显提高。
高等院校女学生397万人,比五年前增加267万,占学生总数的43.95%,比五年前提高了6个百分点;中等专业学校女学生所占比例已达56.6%;成人教育女性所占比例比五年前增长37.6%。
第四,妇女健康状况明显改善。
全国妇幼保健机构达3069个,孕产妇保健覆盖率达到86%。
妇女住院分娩率达到78.8%,比五年前提高12个百分点,妇女平均预期寿命为73.6岁。
第五,妇女的人身权利、婚姻家庭权益进一步得到实现。
我们有三亿五千万家庭,以爱情为基础的自主合法婚姻、平等和睦家庭关系成为主流。

我们认真贯彻第四次妇女大会的精神,在中国已经形成了为了妇女的男女平等三个体系:第一是制定完善规划体系,第二建立健全组织体系,第三构建完善法律体系,进一步优化了妇女健康发展的环境。
三、各界妇女组织发挥优势,有利地推动了妇女的发展和进步。
我们全国妇联在这五年来,主要抓了―一二三四‖:一是以―三个代表‖思想为指导;二是坚持一手抓发展,一手抓维权;三是―双学双比‖、―巾帼建功‖、―五好文明家庭创建‖三大主体活动;四是实施科技致富、社区服务、家庭文明和女性素质四项工程。
各项工作取得了新的进展,有力地促进了我国妇女的发展。
具体工作是五项,第一项在农村组织了六千三百多万农村妇女参加新技术的培训;在工厂,我们对下岗女工培训了五百多万人,直接帮助二百多万人实现了就业。
