However, far less has been known about how meal timing and exercise might affect general health. To find out, British scientists conducted a study. They first found 10 overweight and inactive but otherwise healthy young men, whose lifestyles are, for better and worse, representative of those of most of us. They tested the men’s fitness and resting metabolic (新陈代谢的) rates and took samples (样品) of their blood and fat tissue. Then, on two separate morning visits to the scientists’ lab, each man walked for an hour at an average speed that, in theory, should allow his body to rely mainly on fat for fuel. Before one ofthese workouts, the men skipped breakfast, meaning that they exercised on a completely empty stomach after a long overnight fast (禁食). On the other occasion, they ate a rich morning meal about two hours before they started walking.Just before and an hour after each workout, the scientists took additional samples of the men’s blood and fat tissue. Then they compared the samples. There were considerable differences. Most obviously, the men displayed lower blood sugar levels at the start of their workouts when they had skipped breakfast than when they had eaten. As a result, they burned more fat during walks on an empty stomach than when they had eaten first. On the other hand, they burned slightly more calories (卡路里), on average, during the workout after breakfast than after fasting. But it was the effects deep within the fat cells that may have been the most significant, the researchers found. Multiple genes behaved differently, depending on whether someone had eaten or not before walking. Many of these genes produce proteins (蛋白质) that can improve blood sugar regulation and insulin (胰岛素) levels throughout the body and so are associated with improved metabolic health. These genes were much more active when the men had fasted before exercise than when they had breakfasted. The implication of these results is that to gain the greatest health benefits from exercise, it may be wise to skip eating first.1.The underlined expression “stomach it” in Paragraph 1 most probably means “______”.A.digest the meal easilyB.manage without breakfastC.decide wisely what to eatD.eat whatever is offered2.Why were the 10 people chosen for the experiment?A.Their lifestyles were typical of ordinary people.B.Their lack of exercise led to overweight.C.They could walk at an average speed.D.They had slow metabolic rates.3.What happened to those who ate breakfast before exercise?A.They successfully lost weight.B.They consumed a bit more calories.C.They burned more fat on average.D.They displayed higher insulin levels.4.What could be learned from the research?A.A workout after breakfast improves gene performances.B.Too much workout often slows metabolic rates.C.Lifestyle is not as important as morning exercise.D.Physical exercise before breakfast is better for health.BTransport has a lot to answer for when it comes to harming the planet. While cars and trains are moving towards greener, electric power, emissions from air travel are expected to increase massively by 2050. If we want big green sky solutions, we need blue sky thinking Fortunately, there's plenty of that happening right now, particularly the short-haul flights powered by batteries.Harbour Air is the largest seaplane airline in North America, flying 30, 000 commercial flights in 40 seaplanes each year. Significantly, all Harbour Air routes last less than 30 minutes, making it perfectly fit for electric engines. “As an airline, we're currently in the process of turning all our planes into electric airplanes. says CEO Greg Mc Dougall. To make this happen, the airline has partnered up with MagniX to create the worlds first commercial flight with an electric engine.Making the skies electric isn't just good for the environment, it also makes sound financial sense: a small aircraft uses $400 on conventional fuel for a 100-mile flight, while an electric one costs $8-12 for the same distance, and that's before you factor in the higher maintenance costs of a traditional engine. There's also the added bonus that electric planes are just much more pleasant to fly in. No loud engine noise, no smell of fuel, just environmentally friendly peace and quiet. While there has been real progress in the e-plane industry, the technical challenges that remain are keeping everyone's feet firmly on the ground. A battery, even a lithium one, only provides 250 watt-hours per kilogram; compare this to liquid fuel, which has a specific energy of 11, 890 watt-hours per kilogram. Carrying adequate batteries, however, would make the plane too heavy to get off the ground. In aircraft, where every bit of weight counts, this can't just be ignored. The transition (过渡)from gas to electric in the automobile industry has been made easier by hybrids-vehicles powered by both fuel and electricity. Many believe the same pattern could befollowed in the air. Fuel consumption could be reduced as the electric component is switched on at key parts of the journey, especially on take-off and landing. It's certainly an exciting time for electric flying. With companies like Harbour Air taking the lead, battery-powered planes, especially on short-haul journeys, are set to become a reality in the next few years.1.According to Para. l, what is happening in air transport?A.New explorations of the sky are being launched.B.Pollution caused by batteries is being controlled.C.Efforts are being made to make air travel greener.D.Demand for short-haul flights is increasing massively.2.Why is Harbour Air fit for electric flights?A.It runs short routeB.It has a strong partner.C.Its planes can land on the sea.D.It has planes with powerful engines.3.The expression "added bonus" refers to the fact that electric planes___________.A.give passengers more pleasant viewsB.bring airlines more financial benefitsC.offer more enjoyable flying experiencesD.cost less in maintenance than traditional ones4.What might be the biggest challenge of electric flying?A.To improve the ground service for e-planes.B.To find qualified technicians for e-plane industry.C.To calculate the energy needed to power e-planes.D.To balance power and weight of batteries in e-planes.5.What could be done during the transition from gas to electric in air flight?A.To produce new electric components.B.To increase battery consumption.C.To use mixed-power technology.D.To expand the landing field.6.What is the author's attitude towards the prospect of electric flying?A.Short-sighted.B.Wait-and-see.C.Optimistic.D.Skeptical.二、七选五In this fast-paced life,it’s hard to find the time to cook. But cooking for other people can be fun and beneficial because it comes with some positive psychological benefits.1.Performing an act for another human being, like cooking for them,is a form of selflessness. And it can make people feel happy and connected to others.Cooking is a form of nurturing(养育).When it comes to cooking, you are feeding someone, which is necessary for survival.Cooking for others is nurturing.2.Cooking can create bonds. If you’re cooking for someone, even if they’re not present during the act,it can absolutely bring a sense of closeness in that you’re expressing your love and care for s omeone.3.And cooking for others helps us build and strengthen those connections.4.Not only does cooking for yourself help you eat more healthfully, but it also sends yourself a message that you are important.Cooking can also help raise your confidence.Cooking is a practice of mindfulness.Cooking can encourage us to really focus.5:walk away for a minute and you can burn the onions;check in with your phone and your water can overflow.Cooking brings us together, and it continues to create communities — and with community comes feelings of connection and happiness. Now all you have to do is find the time to add cooking into your busy life.A.Making connections is one of human’s basic needsB.If you lose your focus things can easily go wrongC.It can provide a means for social acceptanceD.Cooking can strengthen your knowledgeE.Cooking for others is a selfless actF.It is helping to keep them aliveG.Cooking is a form of self-care三、语法填空A bone thought to belong 1.St.Nicholas,the fourth-century saint (圣徒) on whom the legend of Father Christmas is based, has been dated by Oxford University.Scientists used a radio carbon test to date the relic, and 2.(find) it dates from the time of the saint, who is believed to have died around 343 AD.While the 3.(result) of the tests do not provide proof that the bone is his,it does tie the relic to the same era.According to the Oxford team, this is the first test 4.

连接词的选择与判断,其中what与that, if与whether是重点;2.

位置:谓语动词之前①That you are coming to Shanghai is the best news I have heard this long time.

【典例剖析】【2022全国新高考卷】______ is so breathtaking about the experience is the out-of-this-world scenes.【答案】what【解析】考查名词性从句。

故填what。

②What matters most in learning English is enough practice.

③When they will come hasn't been made public.

When I finally arrived at my friend he lent me lots of clothes. (my friend→ my friend’s)(2011课标) 考点2:指代一致 ⑴ 上下文的人称不一致。 Thank you very much for showing them around your city and providing us with the wonderful meals. …both of them have similar ideas… Otherwise, it is impossible for him to help each other and to make their friendship last long. Before her leaving, I prepared a gift to show my best wishes to him. She said… Li Ming’s parents invited I to spend two wonderful weeks in Qingdao with them… He had a deep voice, which set himself apart from others… In other words, we would be separated for long time. (long time→ a long time)(2010大纲) Many countries in the world find they don’t have enough water. To deal with a problem, I think, we should… (a→ the,特指上文提到缺少“这个”问题)(2012大纲) So when I have the problem, I will turn to her for help. In a fact, he even scared my classmates away… (In a fact→ In fact)(2013课标I) As result, the plants are growing everywhere. (As result→ As a result) Therefore, we have more time with after-school activities. (time for sth. …and with the help by our father, my sister and I planted some cherry tomatoes… (with the help of在…… We can lie on the grass for a rest, or sit by the lake listening music. (listen to听) (2014课标II) 考点5:连词 ⑴ although/though/while不与but连用;since /as/because不与so连用。 Although we allow tomato plants to grow in the same place year after year, but we have never had any disease… (去掉but或改为yet)(2014课标I) ⑵ and与but用混。 The more friends we have, the more we can learn from one another, but the more pleasure we can share together. ( but→ and,前后没有转折关系) (2014大纲) ⑶ and与or。 All I had to do was to write a story or present it. (or→ and)(2010大纲) What’s more, we can go to work by bike once and twice a week… (and→ or)(2012大纲) ⑷ so与or。 We were warned not to cheat again so she would need to see our parents. (so因此→or否则) (2013四川) ⑸ after与before。 Before waiting for about half an hour, I was beginning to get impatient. (Before→ After逻辑)(2013陕西) ⑹ which与what。 That is which other teachers say. (which→ what所…… With little sleep and hardly any break, so he works from morning till night. (去掉so)(2013辽宁) So if they had said was true, I would have a chance of winning the prize. Having tea in the late afternoon provides a bridge between lunch and dinner, that might not be served until 8 o’clock at night. She used to hold me… I was only four when she passes away. Since then, we had been allowing tomatoes to self-seed where they please. As a result, the plants are growing everywhere. 如在A and B或A, B and C中,A, B, C的形式要一致。 …both of them have similar ideas and trusting each other (trusting→ trust)(2014大纲) 考点7:主谓一致 ⑴ 行为动词:主语是第三人称单数时,行为动词的一般现在时,其后加s。 My dream school look like a big garden. ( look→ looks,主语是My dream school) (2014课标II) ⑵ have动词:主语是第三人称单数时,have的现在时(一般现在时,现在完成时,现在完成进行时)用has。 Li Ming, together with his parents, have gone abroad. (have→ has,主语是Li Ming,注意:with sb.或together with sb. 主语是I,用am或was;主语是you或复数,用are或were。 …the only clothes I had was those I had on. Have tea in the late afternoon provides a bridge between lunch and dinner… (Have→ Having)(2013课标II) ⑵ 熟记其后只能接ing或只能接to do作宾语的动词。 Last year, she decided study abroad. (study→ to study,因decide to do sth.)(2010大纲) ⑶ 介词后要用动词的ing形式。 He isn’t good at talk but he gets on well with other people. (talk→ talking,在介词at后) (2013大纲) I look forward to see her again in the near future. She used to holding me on her knees… (holding→ hold,因used to do sth.) (2013课标I) Well, I had better to stop now. (to stop→ stop,因had better do sth.)(2009课标) …make their friendship to last long. (to last→ last,因make sb. do sth.)(2014大纲) ⑸ 根据非谓语动词与其逻辑主语的关系来确定用-ing形式还是用-ed形式。 We sat by the fire, have our barbecue. (have→ having,因we与have是主动关系)(2014陕西) Felt hungry, we built a fire by the lake… …but I tried hard to do it. Suddenly, Mary, my best friend, asking me to let her copy my answers.
