Listening Part:Now listen to a conversation between a professor and the student.(man) Hi, Sara, to what do I owe this pleasure of this office visit?(woman) It’s my study group, Professor Wilson. We are not getting much studying done, and, you know, none of us did very well on your last quiz.(man) Hmmm, what’s the problem?(woman) Well, we’ve all become good friends and we joke around a lot instead of studying.(man) Hmmm. Sara, let me ask you this. When do you meet?(woman) Every Friday afternoon.(man) Have you thought about changing to another day? By the time Friday afternoon rolls around, all of you are probably exhausted and all you want to do was relax and unwind. It’s hard to stay focused at the very end of the week.(woman) Good point, although things have gotten so out of hand that I’m not sure changing days would help. And we’d lose one or two people if we change days, Friday afternoon is the only time everyone’s available, but it’s worth considering.(man) OK. But just a second, another possibility is, does your group have a leader?(woman) No?(man) Well, if you h ad a leader that would help enormously. Someone to set an agenda in advance, email it to everyone before the meeting and then make sure when you meet that you stay focus ed on your goals. And since you’ve seemed to be concerned enough about the problem to have come see me, I think that someone might be you.(woman) I guess I can take on that role. But it sounds like work.(man) You don’t have to do it for the whole semeste r, Sara. You can start if off and then, perhaps, someone else can take over. Question:The professor proposes two solutions to the problem the woman describes. Briefly summarize the problem then state which solution you recommend and explain why. 1. Listening key(1.1) Problem: people joke around instead of studying during study meeting(1.2) Solution 1: change the meeting time(1.2.1) Pro: everyone’s exhausted on the weekend, they can’t concentrate with a week of h ard work wearing them off(1.2.2) Con: lose one or two people(1.3) Solution 2: appoint a team leader, the woman can be it first(1.3.1) Pro: set an agenda before, email it to all members, make sure the discussion stays on topic(1.3.2) Con: too much work托福TPO6口语task5 范文:The woman’s problem is that everyone jokes around andtalks a lot during study meetings instead of studying. She’s got two possible solutions, the first is to change the study meeting from Friday afternoon to some other time. The second solution is to appoint a leader to the group. I think it’d better if she bite the bullet and take on the role of leader. First of all, it is very important for everyone to study during a study meeting or it’s a waste of time. The presence of a leader can keep the discussion on topic. Second, she mentions that Friday night is when everyone is free to meet, so changing the meeting schedule would mess things up for many group members. Listening Part:Now listen to part of a talk in an Education class.(female professor)One of the hardest parts of teaching is keeping your students’ attention. Now, the key to doing this is understanding the concept of attention. Basically, there are two types of attention. The first type is active, active attentio n is voluntary. It’s when you intentionally make yourself focus on something. And since it requires effort, it’s hard to keep up for long a time. OK, so, um, let’s say you are teaching a Biology class. And today’s topic is frogs. All right? You’re standing in front of the room lecturing: a frog is a type of animal known as an amphibian…, well, this isn’t necessarily going to keep the students’ interest. But most of them will force themselves to pay active attention to your lecture. But it’s only a matter of time before they get distracted. Now, the other type of attention is passive attention, when it’s involuntary. Passive attention requires no effort because it happens naturally. If something is really interesting students don’t have to force themselves to pay attention to it. They do it without even thinking about it. So back to our Biology lecture, you start talking about frogs and then you pull a live frog out of your briefcase. You’re describing it while holding it up. Show the students how long its leg s are, and how they’re used for jumping, for example. Then maybe even let the frog jump around a bit on the desk or the floor. In this case, by doing something unexpected, something more engaging, you can tap into their passive attention. And it can last much longer than active attention. As long as the frog is still there your students will be interested. Question:Using points and examples from the talk, explain the difference between active and passive attention. Listening key(1.1) Main idea: active and passive attention(1.2) Active attention: forced(1.2.1) Example:(1.2.1.1) A teacher teaches a class by only reading from textbooks(1.2.1.2) Students will get bored, yet they’d still try to focus(1.2.1.3) But they will get distracted soon because this attention is forced(1.3) Passive attention: happens naturally(1.3.1) Example:(1.3.1.1) A teacher teaches with a live frog, let it jump arounda bit(1.3.1.2) Students get interested in what’s happening, their concentration happens naturally(1.3.1.3) As long as the frog is on the table, students will have no problem focusing on the lecture托福TPO6口语task6 范文:The professor talks about two kinds of attention in the lecture. The first type is active attention which is voluntary. For example, if a biology teacher teaches a class by only reading from a textbook, the class can become fairly boring. Most students would force themselves to focus, but sooner or later, the students will be distracted. The second type of attention is passive attention, let’s say instead of reading from a textbook, the teacher pulls a live frog out of his bag, then the lecture becomes really interesting. As long as the frog is on the table, the students will be able to focus on the lecture.。

In the talk, the man/woman has a problem that...He / She has two solutions.First, he can…Second, he can…Personally, I prefer the ______ solution,Because if he……., maybe he will……

Task5【学生困难】男生要重写一份论文,但又要leave town for a family union。

Sample answer:1) In the talk, the man has a problem that he has to rewrite a paper, but he is planning to have a family union out of the town, so he gets a time conflict. 2) He has two solutions. First, he can hurry to complete the paper within a week so that he can then attend the family union. 3) Second, he can hand in the paper next semester. 4) Personally, I prefer the first solution. 5) Because if he hand in the paper next semester, it is impossible for him to use library resources for the paper. That would be tough for his writing.

Yeah, she said Icould write a five-page paper instead, and I have lots ofideas and know I could do a good job和But anyways, myparents were really looking forward to coming and seeing meon stage shaking hands with the Institute’s president Knoff. First, she did mention in the conversation that she has plenty of ideas, and she’s confident she’ll be able to do a good job. Also, if she does not attend the ceremony, her parents are going to be very disappointed because they can’t see her on stage.,另一种是个人经历。

Do you prefer to study in a group or study alone? Well, you know, I'm more into studying alone. Here's the deal. When I study alone, I can really focus on my own rhythm. I don't have to worry about others' pace. For example, if I'm trying to figure out a super tough math problem, I can just take my time, think deeply without any interruption. And I can also be as weird as I want. I might talk to myself, make funny faces when I finally understand a concept. But in a group, it's often a mess. There are always some people chatting off topic, or somemight be too bossy and want to lead the whole study session in their own way. So, yeah, for me, studying alone is the way to go.

The university is planning to build a new cafeteria. Which ofthe following do you think is the most important feature? 1. Having a wide variety of food. 2. Having a large dining area. 3. Having affordable prices. Oh, man, this is a tough one. But if I have to choose, I'd say having affordable prices is the most crucial. Look, as a student, most ofus are on a tight budget. We can't afford to splurge on food every day. I mean, who wants to be broke just because they had a meal? Sure, a wide variety of food sounds great. You can try different things. And a large dining area? Well, it's nice to have space. But if the prices are sky high, it doesn't matter how much variety there is or how big the place is. Idon't want to have to choose between paying my tuition and having a decent meal. So, affordable prices should be the top priority for the new cafeteria. The university is considering a new policy called "Green Campus Initiative." The aim is to reduce energy consumption on campus. One way to do this is to install solar panels on the rooftops of campus buildings. This can generate electricity from sunlight, which can be used to power lights, computers, and other electrical devices in the buildings. The man in the conversation supports the idea. He says that currently, the electricity bill of the university is really high. By using solar panels, they can save a lot of money in the long run. Also, it's good for the environment. He mentions that he has seen other campuses doing this and they have become much more environmentally friendly. He also says that students can learn from this. They can see how clean energy works and it might inspire them to be more environmentally conscious in their own lives. So, there's this "Green Campus Initiative" about installing solar panels on campus buildings. And the guy in the conversation is allfor it. I'm with him too. First off, the money thing. The university spends a fortune on electricity. With solar panels, they can cut down on those costs big time. It's like, instead of pouring money into the power company's pockets, they can use it for other cool stuff on campus, like improving the library or getting new equipment for the labs. And thenthere's the environmental part. It's so important these days. We need to be more green. If our campus does this, it can be a role model. Students will see the solar panels every day and think, "Hey, that's a great way to save energy." It might even make them more aware of their own energy usinghabits. So, overall, this "Green Campus Initiative" with the solar panelsis a really good idea. The professor is talking about a concept called "co sleeping" in animals. Co sleeping is when animals sleep together in groups. There aretwo main benefits. One is protection. For example, meerkats live in groups and sleep together. When they sleep, there are always some meerkats on guard. If a predator comes, the guards can alert the others, and they canall run away together. So, by sleeping together, they increase their chances of survival. Another benefit is warmth. Small animals like mice, in cold winters, will huddle together when they sleep. Their body heat combines, and they can keep warm. This way, they can survive in harshwinter conditions. So, the professor was talking about this really interestingthing called "co sleeping" in animals. It's basically when animals snooze together in groups. And there are some really cool reasons for it. First, there's protection. Take meerkats, for instance. They're all cuddled up together when they sleep. But not all of them are just sleeping soundly. There are some meerkats on lookout duty. So, if some big bad predator shows up, those guards can be like, "Hey, everyone, wake up! Danger!" And thenall the meerkats can skedaddle together. That's way better than sleeping alone and being an easy target. Then there's the warmth factor. Little mice in the cold winter, they're like, "Brr, it's freezing." So, what do they do? They all huddle up together when they sleep. Their body heat gets all mixed together, and they can stay nice and warm. It's like they're having alittle furry friend powered heater. So, "co sleeping" is a super smart survival strategy for animals.。

Listening Part:Listen to a conversation between two students.(man) Susan, what happened to your arm?(woman) It’s my wrist, actually. I sprained it last weekend and I am kind of upset about it because I’m supposed to play th e violin in my string quartet's big concert next week. We’ve been practicing for weeks and we’ve already sold a bunch of tickets.(man) Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. What are you gonna do?(woman) Well, I was thinking about trying to play anyway, I mean, I r eally don’t want to let the other three group members down. Plus the doctor said my wrist should be feeling better by then.(man) Oh, OK, so problem solved, right?(woman) Not exactly. I’m worried I’m gonna be out of practice, like I haven’t been able to p lay the violin since I sprained my wrist. What if I don’t play well? I’d make the rest of the group sound bad.(man) Why don’t you get somebody else to take your place?(woman) Well, there’s only one other person I know who could do it and that’s Jim. He’s a great violinist and I’m sure he’d say yes. The thing is he’s not very reliable. I mean, I’min the orchestra with him and he’s always showing up late for rehearsals.(man) Oh, so you’re not sure you can depend on him.(woman) Exactly, and we have less than a week left to rehearse for the concert. We’d really need him to show up on time for all our rehearsals. Question:Briefly summarize the woman’s problem then state which solution you would recommend.Explain the reasons for your recommendation. 1. Listening key(1.1) Problem: need to play the violin, but hurt her arm(1.2) Solution 1: play anyway(1.2.1) Pro: won’t let down group members; doctor thinks it will heal soon(1.2.2) Con: she’s been out of practice, could make mistakes during performance(1.3) Solution 2: get Jim to replace her(1.3.1) Pro: Jim is a fabulous player and he’d say yes(1.3.2) Con: Jim is always late for rehearsals托福TPO5口语task5范文:The woman’s problem is that she needs to play t he violin in a big concert, but she’s hurt her arm. There are two possible solutions, the first one is to try to play anyway. The other solution is to get Jim to replace her and play in the concert. I think the first is better, because that way she won’t l et the other group members down, and the doctor said her wrist should be feeling better by then. Also, she says in the conversation that Jim is notreliable. If he’s always late for the rehearsals, that’ll compromise the whole performance. And that’s unfai r to the other group members who have been practicing for weeks. Listening Part:Now listen to part of a lecture in a psychology class.Professor (female) Why do we do the things we d o? What drives us to participate in certain activities, to buy a certain car or even to choose a certain career? In other words, what motivates us to do what we do?Well, in studies of motivation, psychologists distinguish between two very different types, our reasons for doing something, our motivations can be extrinsic, in other words, based on some kind of external reward like praise or money. Or they can be intrinsic, meaning we engage in the activity because it pleases us internally. Both create strong forces that lead us to behave in certain ways. However, intrinsic motivation is generally considered to be more long-lasting than the other. As I said, extrinsic motivation is external. It’s the desire to behave in a certain way in order to obtain some kind of external reward. A child, for example, who regularly does small jobs around the house, does them not because she enjoys taking out the garbage or doing the dishes but because she knows if she does these things she’ll be given a small amount of money for doing them. But how motivated would the child be to continue doing the work if her parents suddenly stop giving her money for it?With intrinsic, or internal motivation, we want to do something because we enjoy it, or get us a sense of accomplishment from it. Most people who are internallymotivated get pleasure from the activity. So they just feel good about doing it. For example, I go to the gym several times a week.I don’t go because I’m training for a marathon or anything, I just enjoy it. I have more energy after I exercise and I know i t’s good for my health. So it makes me feel good about myself. And that’s what’s kept me going there for the past five years. Using points and examples from the talk, explain the two types of motivation.
