Unit 2 Growing Pains Home alone
I.Teaching aims
1.Get students to know the play and how to read a play.
2.Help students to form a positive attitude towards relationship between their parents and them.
II.Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
Yesterday we’ve talked about something we like to do while our parents don’t allow us to do. We know there are always differences between parents and their children. You may inspire to make decisions by yourselves and do not listen to your parents. If your parents give you a chance to be in charge of your home alone ,can you imagine what might happen? Do you think you can take good care of your home?
Step 2: Pre-reading:
Now, let’s take a look at the text. Page 22-23. You should pay attention to what happened when Daniel parents left for vacation and make Daniel in charge of their home?
At first, I’d like to remind you the text is different from what we have learned before . Please turn to Page 23, go through the Reading strategy . Tell me about the differences between a play and a normal text . Differences : Dialogues ,characters , instructions ......
1. Read the dialogue aloud.
2. Remember to pay attention to the
instructions and tips 3.Since a play consists of dialogue, when you are reading a play, you should pay attention to your tones ,and words that indicate the feeling or mood of characters.
Step 3 While reading:
Now , listen to the tape ,try to understand the text and finish Part A.
1.Who are the main characters in the play? Dad, Mom, Eric, Daniel
2.Why do parents get angry? Because the room was a mess ./ there was garbage lying all over the place.
3.What really happened to their dog, Spot? Spot was ill.
Q: If you were Daniel, what will you do?
Talk to my parents and ask for understanding. Good.
When something unhappy happened between you and your parents, you’d better talk to them and let them understand you.
Read the article again and do Part C1.

Step 4 Post reading: We have get a comprehensive understanding of the text now. I shall divide you into two groups and each group should choose five persons out to perform the dialogues on the stage. Four characters and one for the monologue.
