they look, snowflakes have some similarities with our life. Here are some life lessons these little white ice crystals have to offer.Be uniqueEvery snowflake has its own shape and look.So should you!Accept yourself and be yourself.Everyone is different and should remain that way.Work with othersOne flake doesn’t fall during a storm, millions do.As they build up and stick together, they accomplish a lot.Billions of them can become inches, maybe even feet tall and blanket miles upon miles. If you want to achieve success and change your life, you will need help from others eventually. You can be small but powerfulSnowflakes are very small but very powerful. They’re extremely delicate but can shut down whole cities and states. You may be weak physically but mentally you can be strong.Take your timeUnless wind is pushing them, snowflakes usually take their time to get to their destination.Don’t rush through life;it’s the journey that’s important, not the destination.Divert_away_from your planned routeMost snow flakes are supposed to land on the ground and may be headed that way when they’re falling. But sometimes they land in trees, lakes,or the street. They go with the flow and are very flexible. It’s great if you have p lanned out your time and life, but events are going to throw those off course. So be flexible and let certain events take you for a ride.Bring happiness and enjoyment to othersAt times snow can be extremely dangerous, but think about how many times snow has made people happy and joyful.Just the sight of a fresh blanket of snow makespeople feel good. You should do the same, make people happy to see and talk to you.Don’t be unhappy because you’ll bring those around you down.Life is shortSnowflakes don’t last that long.Frequently they melt the instant they hit the ground, but they’ve had an interesting journey.Cherish your life and every minute you have.1.What is the best title of the passage?A.The advice from snowflakesB.Life lessons from snow flakesC.Enjoy the nice scenery of snowflakesD.Snowflakes, small but powerful2.The underlined part “Divert away from” probably means “________”.A.switch away from B.stick toC.escape from D.fight for3.According to the writer,if you have a low spirit________.A.those around you will laugh at youB.those around you will not be willing to help youC.those around you will be depressedD.you can not enjoy the fresh blanket of snow4.Which of the following is not true according to the passage?A.Every one needs help from others to achieve success eventually.B.You’ll achieve great success even if you are weak physically.C.Cherish your life and every minute you have.D.If you rush through life, you’ll get to the best destination.5.From the passage we may learn that the writer________.A.enjoys snowflakes and has the habit of thinking about snowflakesB.has learned many lessons from snowflakes in his lifeC.intends to teach us some life lessons in terms of snowflakesD.is living a much happier life after the careful observation of snowflakes(2009年济南检测)The largest bird that cannot fly also happens to be the largest living bird in the world. This is the huge North African ostrich. When the male,or cock,is fully grown,he reaches a height nearly eight feet and many weigh close to three hundred pounds. His wings are very small and the wing feathers are very soft, and therefore he does not fly.You have probably heard the old saying about “the foolish ostrich burying his head in the sand”.Well, the ostrich is not nearly as foolish as he is said to be.In the daytime, when the hen is sitting on the eggs, she does not want to be seen;instead of sticking her long neck up into the air,she bends her neck and head down and presses flat along the sand. That way,she can best protect the eggs and herself.Because the ostrich cannot fly up into the air to escape from danger on the ground,he has to remain alert at all times.Luckily,he has very sharp eyesight and hearing. As the lives in the desert an d open plains,he can stop danger in time to run away. The ostrich can run so fast that it almost seems as if he was flying.Sometimes, when a person has a small appetite,we say that he “eats like a bird”.That bird is definitely not the ostrich! An ostrich will eat anything under the sun. When an ostrich died in a zoo, scientists cut it open to see what he had eaten. Here are some of the things found in the bird’s stomach:three pieces of wood, part of a film roll,a nail,a screw,a French coin, three handkerchiefs, four pennies, part of a chain and eighteen pieces of wire.6.Which would be the best title of the passaage?A.Ostriches—Largest Brids that cannot FlyB.Bird LifeC.The Foolish OstrichesD.The Things in the Stomach of an Ostrich7.The ostriches bury their heads in the sand because________.A.they are too lazy to do anythingB.they are very shyC.they can avoid being attackedD.they like to relax themselves by doing so8.“An ostrich will eat anything under the sun.” means________.A.an ostrich will eat everything when the sun shinesB.an ostrich won’t eat anything if the sun hasn’t risenC.an ostrich likes to eat under the sunD.anything on the earth is what the ostrich eats9.Which of the followin g statements is not true according to the passage?A.An ostrich can fly up into the air if there is a sudden danger, but not too high.B.An ostrich eats almost all kinds of things.C.An ostrich usually lives in the desert and open plains.D.An ostrich can run fast just like flying.10.When we say “Someone eats like a bird.”,we mean________.A.he eats too much B.he is a birdC.he eats only a little D.he each morning before he headed off to work. One morning,in addition to his usual lunch bag,Molly handed him a second paper bag. This one was worn and held together with staples (书钉).“Why two bags?” her father asked.“The other is something else,” Molly answered.“What’s in it?”“Just some stuff(东西).Take it with you.”Not wanting to discuss the matter,he put both sacks into his briefcase, kissed Molly and rushed off.At midday he opened Molly’sbag and took out the contents:two hair ribbons (丝带),three small stones,a plastic dinosaur,a tiny sea shell,a small doll, and 13 pennies...The busy father smiled, finished eating, and swept the desk clean into the wastebasket,Molly’s stuff included. That evening,Molly ran up behind him as he read thepaper.“Where’s my bag?”“What bag?”“The one I gave you this morning.”“I left it at the office,my dear.”“I forgot to put this note in it,” she said.“And,besides,Daddy, the things in the sack are the things I really like.I thought you might like to play with them. You didn’t lose the bag,did you,Daddy?”“Oh,no,” hesaid, lying.“I just forgot to bring it home.I’ll bring it tomorrow.”While Molly hugged her father’s neck,he unfolded thenote that read,“I love you,Daddy.” Molly had given him her treasures—all that a 7yearold held dear.Love was in a paper bag,and he missed it—not only missed it,but had thrown it in the wastebasket. So he went back to the office.Just ahead of the night janitor (看门人),he picked up the bag from thewastebasket. He put the treasures inside and carried it home carefully. The bag didn’t look so good, but the stuff was all there and that’s what counted. After dinner,he asked Molly to tell him about the stuff in the sack.It took a long time to tell.Everything had a story or a memory.“Sometimes I think of all the great times in this sweet life.” he thought. We should all remember that it’s not the destination that counts in life, but the journey. That journey with the people we love is all that really matters. It is such a simple truth but it is so easily forgotten.1.Why did Molly give her father a second bag?A.She didn’t want to keep the things in the Bag.B.She hoped those things would bring happiness to her father.C.She wanted to remind her father of the stories behind the things.D.She enjoyed playing with her father.2.How did Father deal with the bag after he opened it?A.He kept it in the drawer.B.He took it back home.C.He threw it into the wastebasket.D.He put it on his table.3.After Father heard what his daughter said,he felt________.A.regretful B.surprisedC.sad D.satisfied4.Which of the following is the most suitable title of the passage?A.An Important Journey B.Two BagsC.Father and Daughter D.Love in a Paper BagStop wasting your time thinking of reasons for your failures and shortcomings.Instead, realize that the seeds of success were planted within you when you were born.Only you have the power to make those seeds grow. The seeds and the power to grow them are contained in the human mind.Success is a choice but not a chance. You can be a success if only you make the right choice. You cannot be successful without first developing yourselfesteem (自尊).Your level of selfesteem is always based on the degree of control that you are able to exercise over yourself, and thus over your life.People with low selfesteem do not believe that they have any power,or responsibility for their lives. They are leaves tossed (摇摆) by the winds of chance brought about with any sudden change in the weather. You can exercise control over your life only to the degree that you believe that you are responsible for whatever happens in your life.Failures think that everything happens by accident while successful people realize that they are responsible.Everything happens as a result of something. If we can identify the cause,we can control the effect. We are responsible for what we consciously choose to accept and believe.Thoughts and beliefs cause everything. Our attitudes and actions are a result of habits ingrained in us over a period of time. One generally rises to the level that one expects. We are responsible for setting our expectations. Our success depends upon our level of confidence. We are responsible for either reinforcing good habits or kicking bad habits and consciously replacing them with consistently practiced good habits. If you associate with positivethinking people, you aredefinitely going to achieve success. On the contrary, the opposite happens. We are responsible for finding, planting, and nurturing (培育) the seeds that contain future victory, born from setbacks. In short,in all areas of your life, whether they arefinancial, physical, emotional,or spiritual, you are responsible.Once you recognize this, accept it,and firmly believe it,you are on the road to success.5.Losers would think that________.A.success is the result of hard workB.working hard will lead to successC.they fail only because of bad luckD.they don’t make efforts to be worn while they wash. The suit has been specially designed so that it can be cleaned under the showerhead. There is no need for soaking (浸泡),dry cleaning—or even soap. The Japanese market has taken a liking to the “shower suit〞,described as “revolutionary〞 by its owner Australian Wool Innovation (AWI),which is the research and marketing body that represents Australian woolgrowers.Orders have been placed for 170,000 of the woolen suits. The suit could be worn in the shower, although it was probably better to hang it on a clothes hanger and carry it instead,AWI corporate affairs spokesman Stephen Feighan said.“The idea is that you hang it up and then...you give it a spray (喷雾),and it’s dry the next morning,〞 Mr Feighan said.A Japanese researcher working for AWI invented the suit by combining three technologies. The secret is the best lining (内衬),which allows the suit to dry quickly. The shower suit attracted busy corporate people, particularly those who often traveled or stayed up late,Mr Feighan said. The airline industry was also interested.Mr Feighan confessed he had not worn one of the suits yet,or tried to wash it in the shower, because they cut to fit Japanese figures.AWI believes that the shower suit will spread from the Japanese market through Europe and India.Mr Feighan hoped the suit, made from local wool, would be available in Austral ia in 12 to 18 months’ time.5.What is the writing purpose of the article?A.To introduce a newlydesigned shower suit.B.To help the white collars arrange their life more sensibly.C.To provide suggestions on saving time in bath.D.To praise AWI for its important achievement.6.Which is true about the suit according to the passage?A.It can spare the owner’s trouble of soaking, dry cleaning and applying soap.B.It is of the quality of fast the suit.B.The tryon of the suit.C.The combination of the three technologies on the suit.D.The popularization of the suit and best wishes for it9.It can be inferred from the passage Guilds.E.Management’s Reaction to the Labour Movement.F.Reasons for starting a Union.1.Some scholars have associated trade unions with the medieval craft guilds (中世纪的行会),but there are important differences between the two.The guild members were masters craftsmen who owned capital and often employed workers.Unions are known as associations of workers with similar skills.2.In the past, individual worker had no control over the conditions of their working lives; political and economic power was concentrated in the hands of wealthy business owners.Workers found, however, that there was strength in uniting. From their earliest years, union objectives have been higher wages and improved working conditions.3.Employers resisted,of course. They made great efforts to stop union organizing its activities.Union members were fired, workers were forced to sign contracts in which they promised not to join a union, and companies hired strikebreakers (罢工破坏者) and even gunmen to frighten organizers.4.One of the earliest successful labour organizations in the United States was the Knights of Labour, founded in 1869.The Knights, which included both skilled and unskilled workers, attempted to organize all workers into one great union. After it successfully struck the Wabash railroad owned by Jay Gould in 1885,its popularity and power grew dramatically. In 1886 the Knights had 700,000 members.5.The decline of the Knights of Labour, however, came quickly. The strike against Gould was gradually broken, and the Knights radical positions on social issues cost them public support. In the end,a lack of unity as well as the rapid inflow of unskilled immigrants weakened the union's economic power, and the organization came to an end.Ⅳ.短文改错I often quarrel about my mother over whether I can watch TV after school. She holds view that senior three students have to make most use of every minute to work hard at their lessons. It seems to me that once I am allowed to do that,I’ll unable to control myself and forget all about my study. She also think it is bad for my eyes. But I really can’t accept her ideas. In my opinion, watch TV can set my mind at rest specially after a day’s hard work.Besides,it is important for us to know what is happened at home and at abroad. Thus,we shouldn’t be forbidden to watch TV.课时作业二十九Ⅰ.单项填空1.C 考查冠词。

Professional Association of Teachers in Southport, northwest of England, one person suggested properly trained dogs be able to keep order in primary schools. They can round up lost children and protect those who experience unfortunate “accidents”.Wendy Dyble,a Shetland Islands woman who teaches children up to age seven, made it clear to her fellow friends that she was not “barking mad”.They obviously believed her, supporting her idea by 16 votes to 13,with a total of 63 abstentions (弃权).She said big dogs could help round up children, keep them in line, lick up the milk they spill on the floor and provide the extra eyes that a teacher needs to keep order.“A big dog would also be helpful in breaking up fights and looking for lost property, like gym shoes or dolls,” Dyble said at the conference.“The dog will also be useful in sniffing out smells that children do not own up to,” she added.“It would be nice for the teacher not to have to go round sniffing each child to find the culprit (犯错的人).”The idea was greeted by the Dog Defense League but less so by bigger teaching unions.A spokesman for Education Secretary David Blunkett, who is blind, said hisguide dog was always popular with pupils when he visited schools. The Professional Association of Teachers, with around 35,000 members,is the smallest teaching union in Britain. It has an honour for occasional strange ideas.Earlier th is week, its annual conference here suggested stopping exams because they lead to stress and introducing selection at the age of 12 based on physical coordination and manual skill in (2009年安徽名校联考三,C) American teens are setting an example for their parents through their volunteer work, according to the Harris Interactive poll conducted in the United States between Jan.29 and Feb.2 among 2,003 adults. The random national telephone survey released this week by the Federal Waybased charity World Vision found that more teens volunteer to support a charitable (慈善的) cause—56 percent—than have a parttime job—39 percent. Parents and guardians said 82 percent of the teens in their lives do something to support charitable causes, including volunteering, recruiting others to a cause, wearing a Tshirt or donating money.Fortysix percent of the adults surveyed said they volunteered their time and they also inspired their children to volunteer. Sara Johnson,a teacher who advises students at a private school in a Chicago suburb, says she’s seen a rise of teen involvement in social causes since President Barack Obama was elected in November. The Harris Interactive survey found a quarter of teens have become more involved in charitable causes or organizations as a result of the economic downturn, but the economy has also led to cuts in allowances, and has teens work more hours at a paying job. Alynn Woodson, director of volunteer engagement at Habitat for Humanity International, said she has noticed a new enthusiasm among teen volunteers for the organization. Habitat for Humanity International celebrates the 20th anniversary of its alternative spring break program this year and is expecting more than 12,000 young people to help build homes for lowincome people around the nation. 1.The following statements about the teens’ voluntary work are true EXCEPT________. A.the economic downturn led teens to work less hours at paying jobs B.the poll was done at the end of January and the early February C.children do more voluntary work than their parents D.more teens are involved in charitable causes or organizations 2.We can infer from the passage that________. A.parents and guardians encourage their children to do voluntary work B.volunteers all wear Tshirts while doing charity work C.more teens are doing paying jobs as a result of the economic downturn D.less teens were enthusiastic about voluntary work before Obama came into power 3.The author mentioned Habitat for Humanity International in order to
