2. What do many English learners want to do? What is your idea about it?
Tips
Many English learners want to use all the difficult words they know. They can understand many difficult English words when reading or listening, but they don’t use most of them when speaking or writing in English. But from my point of view, we should make sure of our deficiencies, and then improve our language skill by more practice. Repetition will help move you from basic literacy toward true proficiency.
Finding the key idea of a sentence is of great importance since we always read for information. When looking for the key idea in sentences, it is of crucial importance to separate the key idea from the details that usually tell us about when, what, and where. They are important only in the sense of supporting the key idea, but they are definitely not the key idea of a sentence.

We hope that students will realize the significance of the humanities, with which students can gain more insights into life and society and be aware of cultural and religious differences. Text A advocates that by taking courses in the humanities, students are likely to grow into good people. Text B opposes getting a college education only for a future career, an extreme thinking driven by the economic downturn.Section A The humanities: Out of date? Background information1. the humanities The humanities are a group of academic disciplines that study the human condition, using methods that are primarily analytical, critical, or speculative. Therefore, they are distinguished from the approaches of the natural sciences. The humanities, called social sciences, include history, anthropology, communication studies, cultural studies, law, language, literature, philosophy, religion, music and theater, etc.1/ 36Through exploration of the humanities, students learn how to think creatively and critically, to reason, and to ask questions. Because these skills allow students to gain new insights into everything from poetry and paintings to business models and politics, humanistic subjects have been at the heart of a liberal arts education. Today, humanistic knowledge continues to provide the ideal foundation for exploring and understanding the human experience. 2. self-awareness Self-awareness isn’t a quality that you demonstrate by telling a story, but rather it has to do with how you tell the story and your ability to communicate what you learned. Being able to explain to the admissions committee why you value one accomplishment above others, what you learned from a setback, or the deeper meaning of your career goals, is evidence of self-awareness. Furthermore, the self-aware individual has knowledge of both his strengths and weaknesses. 3. James Cameron World-famous director of the movie, Titanic. The film received 14 Academy Award nominations and was awarded 11 Oscars.4. Sally Ride An American physicist and a former NASA astronaut.

朋友和亲人常宣称They‟ve just ate。

实际上,他们应该说They‟ve just eaten。

(Para. 1)Meaning: He was called Malcolm Little when he was born into a poor family.5 Later, he took the name Malcolm X after joining an organization called the Nationof Islam, a religious group that had changed major practices and beliefs ofmainstream Islam to apply more specifically to the condition of African-Americanpeople in the United States in the early 1960s. (Para. 1)Meaning: Later, he changed his name to Malcolm X after he joined an organization calledthe Nation of Islam. 2 Malcolm X learned about the Nation of Islam while in prison for committingcriminal acts such as theft. Because he was poorly educated, hefelt inadequate to teach his new beliefs to others. As a young man, hecould sketch his thoughts with poor grammar and little vocabulary using thesimple, unsophisticated language of people on the street. As an adult, when hetried to inform people about his new beliefs at a rally, he found that he didn'thave the adequate communication skills he needed. In his own words, he"wasn't even functional".2 马尔科姆·艾克斯因当时犯有诸如偷窃等罪而入狱。

他在监狱里得知了“伊斯兰民族”组织。

由于没有受过良好的教育,他在向别人传授他的新信仰时感到力不从心。

作为一名年轻人,他可以用草根语言来概述自己的想法,语言简单、粗浅、语法差劲,且词汇贫乏。

可作为一名成年人,当他在大型公众集会上向人们阐述他的新信仰时,他发觉自己缺少了所需的语言交流技能。

用他自己的话说,他“甚至没有这个功能”。

6 Malcolm X learned about the Nation of Islam while in prison for committingcriminal acts such as theft. (Para. 2)Meaning: Being an adult, he found that he didn’t have enough communication skills thatcould help him to inform people about his new beliefs at a large public meeting.10 In his own words, he “wasn’t even functional”. (Para. 2)Meaning beyond words: He realized that he was severely inadequate in communicatingwith people because he wasn’t even able to say, express, and explain things properly.3 In a bid to increase his knowledge and improve his skills, desperate MalcolmX devised a scheme. He turned to books, believing this would bebeneficial. However, when he tried to read serious books on his own, he wasdistressed as he didn't know most of the words. "They might as well have beenin Chinese," he wrote. He skipped all the words he didn't know and then wouldend up with no clue as to what the book was about. "I became frustrated,"Malcolm X wrote in his autobiography, speaking of his inadequate languageskills.3 为了增长知识,提高沟通技能,深陷绝望的马尔科姆·艾克斯为自己制定了一个计划。
