And I mentioned three reasons, Why we need it as an independent field as opposed to just being "well, let’s do some studies on happiness, on relationships" as it is always being done? The reason why we need positive psychology is to shift the pendulum from the 21:1 ratio that we have today: for every one study on depression or anxiety, we have 21 studies on-- sorry, for one study on happiness or wellbeing, we have 21 studies on depression and anxiety. We want to shift the pendulum slightly. And I mentioned three reason why we want to shift this pendulum despite the fact that there are rising levels of depression around the world, that anxiety has become epidemic globally—on college campuses in United States, China, Australia, UK. Despite that fact, I argue that we need to shift the pendulum and do more "positive research‖, or in other words, research that focuses on what works. And the reason is—the first reason that we gave and we are just finishing up is because the question that we ask, whether it's the research questions that we ask, or the questions that we ask of ourselves, or our partners, matter. And if our only questions, or primarily our questions are "what is not working? What is the problem? Why are so many kids failing as a result of their circumstances?" If we only ask these questions, we will miss, literally miss an important part of reality, just like you missed the children on the bus in the exercise. Most of you did. And if we also ask the positive question, then some new possibilities, new quests open up, just like they did for the researchers when they started to ask no longer "why do so many individuals fail?" but started to ask "what do some individuals do and succeed? Nowadays, the disclosure of the privacy of the celebrities becomes a universal phenomenon. Why people pay close attention to the privacy of celebrities? In my opinion, there are three reasons.
First, it is because the media hype. Sometimes what the media expose about the celebrities is not worth mentioning, such as someone goes to shopping with his/her girl friend. If the “someone”here is ordinary person, nobody will be interested in it. But when it comes to a celebrity, it must be explosive news. More and more privacy of celebrities come to us in the modern society. Sometimes we have to accept the news unwillingly. It is the media hype which guides us to invade celebrities’ lives.
Second, it is because our belief. Nowadays, the belief of somebody is so strange that it almost becomes pathological. Those people are crazy about invading other’s space. In their opinion, the privacy of celebrities is the spice of their lives. Then the media try their best to obtain the privacy of celebrities in order to meet people’s need.
Third, it is because the some celebrities themselves want to reveal their privacy. As celebrities, they have less personal space than the ordinary person. However, they can protect their privacy if they pay attention to their usual lives. Some celebrities reveal their privacy to become more famous, they share a win-win relationship with the media.
There are so many reasons why we pay close attention to the privacy of celebrities. we should do something to change this strange phenomenon. As the media, they should lead a healthy and positive direction for people. As a ordinary person, he should respect the celebrities’ privacy. As celebrities themselves, they should protect their personal spaces.。
