They make them give up the rings Portia and Nerissa gave them as a test. When the husbands realize they were tricked by their own wives, they must have felt so dumb! I laughed so hard.I also really liked the parts with Shylock because the actor playing him was amazing. He was just so mean and greedy, always going on about his money and his bargains. But you also kind of felt bad for him because everyone treated him so badly just for being Jewish. I didn't really get why everyone hated Jewish people so much back then. Shylock had some great speeches about being discriminated against too. I can see why he was so angry all the time.Even though I'm just a kid, I could tell The Merchant of Venice had some pretty grown-up themes about racism, revenge, mercy, and true friendship. But it was still easy enough for me to mostly follow along. Some of the funny stuff went over my headthough. My parents had to explain a few of the dirty jokes to me after!Overall, I absolutely loved seeing a Shakespeare play. At first I thought it would be boring because it's so old, but it turned out to be an awesome story with lots of humour and interesting characters. I can't wait to read or see more Shakespeare! Maybe we'll do Romeo and Juliet next year. I just hope it doesn't have as many sad parts as The Merchant of Venice. I cried so much when...oops, can't spoil it for you! Well Shylock really didn't like Antonio because Antonio wasn't very nice to him before. So Shylock made Antonio agree that if he couldn't pay the money back, Shylock could cut a pound of flesh off of Antonio's body! That's so gross and mean.Meanwhile, Portia was having these suitors come and try to pick the right casket to win her hand in marriage. There was a gold one, a silver one, and a lead one. The right one had her picture inside. A bunch of dummies picked the wrong ones but finally Bassanio got it right and won Portia as his wife.But then Antonio's ships got lost at sea and he couldn't pay Shylock back his money. Shylock was being a huge jerk and actually wanted to cut the flesh off of Antonio for not paying him!I couldn't believe it. Portia got dressed up like a dude lawyer and went to defend Antonio in court. She ran circles around Shylock with her smarts and her words. In the end, Shylock didn't get anything and had to convert to Christianity.I thought the play was pretty messed up in some parts, especially with Shylock being so crazy and mean. But I liked seeing Portia outsmart him and make sure justice was served. She was really clever. And it had a classic happy ending with true love conquering all!There were some parts I didn't fully understand, like why Shylock hated Antonio so much or what Antonio's deal was being all sad. The language was hard too with their funny dialects and poetic ramblings. But the basic story of money troubles, love triangles, and people scheming against each other was pretty entertaining. Shylock seemed pretty mean and grumpy, especially towards Antonio. He acted like he hated Antonio just for being a Christian. That didn't seem very nice to me.When Shylock agreed to lend the money, he made this weird deal where if Antonio couldn't pay him back, Shylock could cutoff a pound of his flesh! I gasped when I heard that. Who would ever make such a creepy deal? Shylock must have been crazy. I don't know why Antonio agreed to that.But then the play changed and got kind of romantic. It went to Portia's house where there were all these crazy rules about choosing a husband. The men had to pick one of three caskets or boxes or whatever they were. If they chose wrong, they couldn't marry Portia!A bunch of Portia's silly suitors came and chose boxes with things like scrolls and deady things inside. They all chose wrong and had to leave. I couldn't figure out why none of them could figure out which one was the right casket to pick.Finally, Bassanio came and he picked the lead casket. Inside there was just a picture of Portia! I thought that was the right one for sure since Portia seems like the kind of person who wouldn't want anything too fancy.Sure enough, Bassanio got to marry Portia. I was really happy for them. Their romance was my favorite part of the whole play. I just wanted them to ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after.But then the story went back to Venice and everything got dark and gloomy again. Antonio couldn't pay back Shylock because his ships didn't make it back. Shylock was furious and really wanted that pound of flesh from Antonio! He brought Antonio to court and everything.I couldn't believe Shylock was being so crazy and mean. Didn't he realize Antonio could have died if he took a pound of flesh from him? Over money? Shylock had become like a villain in the story and I started to dislike him a lot.Just in time, Portia showed up dressed up as a male lawyer. She came up with a clever way to make sure Shylock couldn't hurt Antonio. There were al these little loopholes about how he couldn't shed one drop of blood or else he would get in huge trouble. It was pretty confusing for me to follow everything, but I was glad Portia saved the day!In the end, Shylock lost all his money and had to convert to being a Christian. Antonio didn't have to die or get sliced open or anything. And Bassanio and Portia got to live happily ever after as husband and wife. It was a happy ending but I still felt a little sad for Shylock. I don't think he deserved to lose absolutely everything like that.Overall, The Merchant of Venice was a very interesting play with lots of twists and turns. Some of it was over my head, but I liked the romantic stuff between Bassanio and Portia. I didn't like how mean and crazy Shylock became though. He took his revenge way too far in my opinion. But I'm glad in the end that love conquered all and Bassanio and Portia got their "happily ever after." I just wish there was a way Shylock could have lightened up a little too. Maybe then everything could have worked out for everyone!。

This time I read his comedy the Merchant of Venice and I think it really worth reading.Shakespeare's play, "The Merchant of Venice" explored the timeless topic of money and love. Money is the world's most valuable things .There is something even more precious than money? Rich and moving story of family ties, witty dialogue, the plot turn, exaggerated the circumstances of Comedy, romance and legend is full of color. Is intertwined with friendship, love, love the world and lead us to understanding what is important in life.The play tells a story that happens in Italy. A moneyless young Venetian, Bassanio, is making preparations to propose to Portia, a rich beauty of Belmonte. He needs money and appeals to his friend Antonio, a merchan t of Venice, for help. But Antonio’s money is invested in ships at sea. To help Bassanio in his courtship, he borrows money from Shylock the Jewish usurer. Shylock, who has been insulted by Antonio and other Christians, however, agrees to lend the money on the condition that if the loan is not paid in time, he may cut a pound of flesh from Antonio’s body. With this money, Bassanio goe s to Belmonte and succeed in the marriage with Portia. But news comes that Antonio’s ship sank and can’t return on time so he cannot pay the loan. Shylock demands his pound of flesh. The case is brought before the court. Antonio is in danger. At the critical mo ment, a young doctor of law arrives at the court. He appeals to Shylock for mercy with a moving speech, but in vain. Then the doctor admits the validity of Shylock’s claim, but warns him, under pain of death, that he must fulfil the everyletter of his bond, taking no more and no less than one pound of flesh, and spilling no drop of blood. Seeing himself thus cornered, the Jew has no choice but to obey the verdict of the court. To everyone’s surprise, the young doctor of law who saves the life of Antonio is Portia in disguise. Finally they live together happily. The story has a happy ending in theory. But I don’t think the end is really happy and is a kind of “grave comedy”.There are many vivid characters in the play. The silly princes of Morocco and Arragon, the handsome and ideal husband Antonio , Antonio’s best friend Bassanio, Shylock’s servant Lorenzo , waiting woman Nerissa, Shylock’s daughter Jessica……And the play brings us to a beautiful Venice. People may also addict into the romantic atmosphere of capitalism. In fact, the box is not only reflected people’s outlook about the money, but also to all matters, the box is only an analogy, the inside of the paper itself is a very good interpretation. The silly princes of Morocco and Arragon choose the gold and silver boxes, and consider themselves in the right. As the inside words suggest, certainly they can’t marry beautiful Portia. Revenge.If a Christian wrong a Jew,what should his sufferance be by Christian example?Why, revenge.The villainy you teach me I will execute.And it shall go hardWhen I read it for the first time, I didn’t pay much attention to Shylock.I just thought highly of handsome Antonio and smart Portia. However, this time when I read it again I think Shylock is the very character who leaves me the most impression.This passage is the monologue of Shylock. When Shylock shout this out ,it really touches my heart. Shylock is a Jewish money lender in Venice and he is often persecuted by the Christians, most notably Antonio. He loans Antonio three thousand ducats on the promise that if it is not repaid, the forfeiture shall be a pound of Antonio’s flesh. This plot to kill Antonio is unethical, but he cites valid reasons for his hatred. If Shylock is viewed only as a cruel villain, then the play is one of the virtues of “Christian mercy.” However, if his downfall and loss of daughter, religion and wealth at the conclusion are seen as the tragic end of a man who was abused by the other characters in the play, then the “Christian mercy” must be seen as cruelty in disguise.In this single-minded pursuit of a pound of flesh, his frequentmentions of the cruelty he has endured at Christian hands make it hard forus to label him a natural born monster. In one of Shakespeare’s mostfamous monologues, for example, Shylock argues that Jews are humansand calls his quest for vengeance the product of lessons taught to him by the cruelty of Venetian citizens. On the oth er hand, Shylock’s coldly calculated attempt to revenge the wrongs done to him by murdering his persecutor, Antonio, prevents us from viewing him in a primarily positive light. Shakespeare gives us unmistakably human moments, but he often steers us against Shylock as well, painting him as a miserly, cruel, and prosaic figure. But I think Shylock suffers much discrimination for he is a Jew. It‘s unfair. All men were born equally. It is the society that makes what Shylock is. What a poor Shylock. What poor Jews.We can learn much from the play. Money is important, but there are many far more important things in this world. Do not be fooled by the surface. In our real live we should threat everyone equally and do not have color vision to look at other people. And when we meet with unexpected difficulties, we should keep calm and solve it skillfully just as Portia does......If I were in Venice in 1563, I would like this play. But To be honest, to be a modern man I can’t agree with some of ideas in this play at all.。
