Do not hang silk garments on wire hangers—rust may stain the silk.

Do not put dirty garments in wardrobes. They should be washed or dry-cleaned. Do not machine-wash silks. But some silk and cotton blends are exceptions.

Do not wear pins on silk dress for they will leave permanent holes.

Do not expose silk to sunlight, strong lighting or dry heat for long period of time. They will cause fading.

Do not hang silk garments in plastic bags; silk is of organic fiber that needs to breathe.

Do not wear silk garments that are tight-fitting or undersize. The fabric will stretch and weaken, causing pulls and sagging.

Do not scrub silk when it is wet. Its strength will be reduced by 13% to 30% when wet.

Do not apply perfumes or colognes while wearing silk garments; chemicals are harmful to silk.

Do not iron silk dry. Do not soak silk garments for long period of time.

Do not stretch silk or pull it. When stretched excessively, silk has poor spring-back. Do not use chlorine bleach. Do not use starch on silk.

Better Care, Longer Life

With proper care, silk garments will last a lifetime. In fact, the silk garments exhibited in museums are hundreds of even thousands of years old. Charlemagne’s coronation robe from the year 800 AD, now displayed in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome (罗马圣彼得教堂，欧洲最大的罗马天主教教堂), looks as good as new.
