多模态话语分析视角下的影视字幕翻译--以美剧《生活大爆炸》第十季为例

近年来,国内字幕翻译研究成果颇丰,但大多数研究者多从关联理论、功能对等理论、生态美学等方面进行研究。
多模态话语分析理论逐渐兴起,为电影字幕翻译研究提供了一个新的视角。
本文拟从多模态话语分析理论框架的视角出发,分别从文化、语境、内容、表达层面对美剧《生活大爆炸》第十季的字幕翻译进行分析研究,以期为影视剧字幕翻译提供一些参考。
一、多模态话语分析理论多模态话语是指语言和语言、图像、声音、动作等多种符号资源共同构筑意义。
当一种模态不足以表达意义时,需用其他模态补充共同表达语篇的整体意义。
在当今新媒体时代,多元文化相互渗透,很多时候单一的文字模态已经不足以表达语篇意义,语篇的交际意义需要言语信息和非言语信息共同构筑,因此多模态话语分析便成为解读语篇意义的重要理论指导。
张德禄先生根据模态话语分析理论以及系统功能语言学相关研究,提出了多模态话语分析综合理论框架,这个框架由文化层面、语境层面、内容层面及表达层面构成。
每个层面分别阐释了话语分析过程中的各个侧重点以及各层面间的相互影响,为字幕翻译工作者综合考虑模态间的关系并进行翻译提供了新的视角。
影视剧语篇是融合声音、文字、形象等多种交流模态的一种艺术表现形式。
笔者认为在多模态话语分析的视角下,综合考虑文字、声音、图像、色彩等各种模态间相互影响,采取相应的字幕翻译策略,能更为准确、全面地解读影视剧语篇话语意义,并能更有效地增强影视剧作品的信息和文化表达。
二、《生活大爆炸》简介《生活大爆炸》是C B S 电视台播出的一部情景喜剧,该剧主要讲述的是四个研究量子物理学的天才科学家和一个美女邻居发生的搞笑故事。
这部剧凭借其新颖的角度,风趣的台词,在国内外获得极高的收视率。
该剧在中国播出获得成功与其出色的字幕翻译息息相关,到目前为止,《生活大爆炸》共播出十一季,前十季的字幕已制作成熟,因此给字幕翻译研究者提供了新鲜且便利的研究素材。
三、多模态话语分析视角下《生活大爆炸》第十季字幕翻译研究(一)文化层面张德禄认为文化层面是使多模态交际成为可能的关键层面。

为了尽可能多地传达影视剧中的文化信息,在字幕翻译过程中,译者可将归化翻译策略作为首选,用目标语观众熟知的喻象替代源语喻象,通过意译让观众更好地理解影视剧体现的思想和内涵,达到与源语言功能的对等作用。
在第一集中,当L eon ard的父亲与母亲发生争吵,他的父亲谈到要与Sh eld on的母亲经常见面,L eon ard的母亲认为她的丈夫是想用此方法激怒他,而她的丈夫也不想打输这场嘴仗,于是说到:“A n d if it an tagon izes you,to th at’s ju st a b on u s.”字幕组将其意译为“如果这激怒了你,那算是一石二鸟。
”这句化是用中国观众熟悉的成语“一石二鸟”来代替了原来的喻像“b on u s”,这个翻译是中国特有的俗语,这样的翻译拉近了与中国观众的距离,使字幕更具幽默效果。
在第六集中,L eon ard在P en n y的电影签售会回答宅男们如何娶得漂亮动人的P en n y时,与P en n y有如下对话:M an“B u t h ow d id you get h er to go ou t with you”P en n y“H e slowly wear m e d own.”L eon ard“L ik e a river carves a can yon”.译为:男:“你是怎样成功让她同意跟你约会的啊?”佩妮:“他不断纠缠我让我慢慢放弃抵抗。
”莱纳德:“只要功夫深,铁杵也能磨成针。
”在这句对白中,字幕翻译组把“river carves a can yon”翻译成了中国人熟知的俗语“只要功夫深,铁杵也能磨成针。
”将一个原来我国观众不熟悉的文化喻像换成观众熟悉的喻像,使得观众对字幕理解更加深刻。
如果只是简单得直译为“就像河流侵蚀峡谷一样”,达不到这部剧想要得到的幽默效果。
在这季中,还有许多类似的涉及两国文化现象或文化词的例子,译者采用了大量的归化策略,用目标与观众熟知的喻像代替原来的喻像,使得字幕的翻译达到了既传递有效信息,又突出这部剧幽默的风格特点。
由于各国文化具有独特性,一些专有词汇、文化典故或幽默词并非现场的影像辅助就能使观众理解,处理这类文化文本时,可以考虑注释翻译策略,即对文化词的隐含意义进行适当解释,表达出源语言中潜在的文化内涵。
在第十集中,有这样一句对白:Stu art“A t least m y n ose is n atu rally b rown.”译为“至少我的鼻子是纯天然棕色。
”在这里,斯图尔特用自己的肤色调侃自己以逗B ern atted e开心,在这句翻译的上方加注有:“棕鼻子在英语里指马屁精”,如果不没有这个注释,很多观众都理解不到这句话的隐含意义,会错过这个笑点。
(二)语境层面语境因素是一个多模态交际中的重要制约因素。
语境包括语言性语境和非语言性语境。
语言性语境是指在语言交际中表达话语意义时所依赖的上下文。
非语言性语境指表达话语意义时所依赖的各种主客观因素。
语言性环境和影视剧中的画面场景、语言环境、人物心理、面部表情等非语言性环境共同构筑影视剧的语篇意义。
因此,综合把握语境因素对于字幕翻译传递语篇意义具有重要作用。
第四集中,由于美国军方想征用H oward的研究成果,因此警察找到他的家,他的印裔朋友R aj误以为警察是想来将自己遣返回国,所以见到警察时他的面部表情慌张,眼神带着躲闪,直到警察告诉他是来寻找他的朋友时,他的面部表情才放松下来。
因此当时R aj台词有一句是“V ery well”,译为“是的官爷”,并做出向警察鞠躬的动作,他的动作表情加上字幕翻译体现出了R aj内心的害怕从而说出对警察谄媚的话,让观众看到这里忍俊不禁。
在这句翻译中,译者综合考虑了演员的面部表情、眼神、肢体语言等因素进行意译,对电影原文给出简洁、准确的字幕翻译。
(三)内容层面内容层面指的是话语意义,涉及概念意义、人际意义和语篇意义。
由于字幕的呈现受限于空间和时间因素,所以要尽量保持字幕翻译简洁易懂。
由于影视剧上下文语境连贯,对语篇要求不高,观众可从画面、声音、色彩等其他模态理解影视剧语篇的交际意义,因此人际意义与语篇意义方面的内容可适当删减。
字幕翻译中,常常对称呼语、语气词、代词等内容进行的省略。
“Y ou k n ow,L eon ard an d I were very h ap p y b efore you cam e alon g.”译为:“在你出现之前,莱纳德和我可幸福美满了。

例如，对于幽默场景，翻译人员可以采用同样幽默的词语和表达方式来传达原文中的笑点。
对于紧张和悬疑场景，翻译人员可以运用词语的悬疑和紧张效果来传达原文中的情感。
此外，翻译人员还需要考虑到文化差异，选择与目标语言观众习惯和喜好相符合的表达方式。
总之，在多模态话语分析视角下的电影字幕翻译中，翻译人员需要考虑到文字、图片和声音等多种语言模态之间的关系和相互作用。
他们需要根据电影的上下文和角色特点，选择合适的翻译策略，以便将原文中的情感和意义准确地传达给观众。

多模态话语分析视角下的字幕翻译研究随着全球化进程地不断加快,影视作品已经成为一种直接有效的跨文化交流途径。
它不仅能够丰富娱乐人们的日常生活,同时,在促进不同文化之间的交流上也发挥着越来越重要的作用。
近年来,随着对外文化交流的发展与深入,特别是大量美剧和英剧的流行,使得字幕翻译越来越受到翻译界的重视。
影视字幕翻译不是一个简单的两种语言转换的过程。
它是一个复杂过程,涉及到源语与目的语语言文化的多个方面。
字幕翻译的恰当,正确与否,直接影响人们的观影感受,同时,也关系到跨文化交流是否能顺利地进行。
影视字幕翻译是不同于其他形式的一种翻译体裁,它在语言的感染力,逻辑性,艺术性等方面都有更高的要求;较之单纯的文学翻译,又有更高的广泛性和通俗性。
中国的翻译历史源远流长,然而影视翻译却少有人涉足。
现阶段,我国的影视字幕翻译还处于发展阶段,相关的理论与实践研究都不够系统和完善,所以字幕翻译在许多方面都存在着很大的缺陷。
本文从多模态话语的视角出发,以2016年广受欢迎的美国电影《疯狂动物城》的字幕翻译为语料,借助中国海洋大学张德禄教授的多模态话语分析综合理论框架,分析电影中不同模态之间的关系,以及电影中不同意义模态之间如何相互协调构成整体意义。
除此之外,本文着重从多模态话语分析综合理论框架的四个层面出发,即文化、语境、内容和表达四个层面分别对《疯狂动物城》的字幕翻译文本进行分析探讨。
最后得出,多模态话语分析综合理论框架,作为一个新的研究视角,首先,它合理地整合了声音、语言、图像等意义模态,能够将文本所要表达的完整意义呈现出来;其次,它将目的语文化中的社会文化因素考虑进字幕翻译过程中,在字幕翻译中发挥了优势作用;最后,它突破了传统翻译研究的某些语言和文化因素的限制,将声音、语言、图像、文字等看作是构成文本不可或缺的元素。
总之,多模态话语分析理论为字幕翻译研究提供了一个更为综合的视角。
希望译者能从多模态话语分析理论出发,突破传统影视研究的局限性,不断发展完善中国字幕翻译事业。

《生活大爆炸》字幕通达流畅，风趣幽默，进一步贴近中国文化，介绍美国文化，是优秀的美式喜剧字幕翻译范例。

幽默是美国的一项传统文化，不仅仅体现在美国民众的日常生活交流中，在美国文学方面也随处可见其身影，“美国文坛巨子”马克·吐温的作品中，幽默便是其中的一大特色。
因此，对于美式幽默的理解与领悟，掌握其表现方式，重要性便不言而喻。
邹翠萍认为比喻，双关，夸张，反转等为美式幽默的主要表达方式。
陈小云认为双关语，暗指都是美式幽默的重要载体之一、引言近年来，随着《生活大爆炸》等美剧的热播，我国成功掀起了一场美剧热。
美剧迷们不仅可以通过看剧了解到美国文化，还可借助其中搞笑的剧情放松。
