数字语义的不确定性就是语义模糊现象，在文学作品，尤其是在汉语文学作品中，这种模糊现象很常见。这类数词的使用不仅可以增强语言的表达能力，更可以文学作品的艺术想象空间。汉语文学作品中这类数字大都具有一定的民族文化背景和特定的语言表达习惯，英译时大都采用意译的方式，舍弃原文中的数字；如果直译，由于文化背景的不同和表达习惯的差异，会使英语读者难于理解，甚至译文语句不顺、语义不明。
