四调是初三下学期的期中考试，一般在4月，所以俗称“四月调考”。
2015年四调时间为4月16、4月17日两天。
部分重点高中会在四月调考后签约一部分学生。
四月调考是全市统一命题，分区阅卷、分区统分，所以会出现各区签约分数线的差异。
四月调考是在《中考考试说明》发布之后命制的，它更突出对整体知识结构的考查，四月调考的试卷模式一般就是当年中考的模式，如果中考有变化，会在四月调考中体现。
初三四月调考在很大程度上反映了考生的中考水平，对于中考报考等都具有重要的参考价值。
