Our ,f Moinmy and Me M time began two years ago. My next-door neighbor and fellow mother, Christie, and I were out in our front yards, watching seven children of age 6 and under ride their bikes up and down. M I wish I could take one of mv children out alone/'said Christie.

Then we worked out a plan: When Christie takes one of her children out, Lil watch her other three. And when she watches two of mine, Lil take someone out.

The children were extremely quick to accept the idea of K Mommy and Me H time. Christie's daughter, McKenzie, went first. When she returned, the other children showered her with tons of questions. McKenzie was smiling broadly. Christie looked refreshed and happy, "she's like a different child when there's no one else around/1 Christie shared with me quietly. With her mother all to herself, McKenzie didn't have to make an effort to gain attention.

Just as Christie had noticed changes in McKenzie, I also discovered something different in.each of my children during our alone times. For example, I am always surprised when my daughter, who is seldom close to me, holds my hand frequently. My stuttering (口 吃的)son, Tom, doesn't stutter once during our activities since he doesn't have to struggle for a chance to speak. And the other son, Sam who's always follower when around other children shines as a leader during our times together

The H Mommy and Me" time allows us to be simply alone and away with each child-talking, sharing, and laughing, which has been the biggest gain. Every child deserves (应得到)to be an only child at least once in a while.

21.What is the text mainlv about?

How many people have I met who have told me about the book they have been planning to write but have never yet found the time? Far too many.

This is Life, all right, but we do treat it like a rehearsal (排演)and, unhappily, we do miss so many of its best moments.

We take Jobs to stay alive and provide homes for our families always making ourselves believe that this style of life is merely a temporary state of affairs along the road to what we really want to do. Then, at 60 or 65, we are suddenly presented with a clock and several grandchildren and we look back and realize that all those years waiting for Real Life to come along were in fact real life.

In America they have a saying much laughed at by the English:u Have a nice day" they speak slowly and seriously in their shops, hotels and sandwich bars. I think it is a wonderful phrase, reminding us, in effect, to enjoy the moment: to value this very day- How often do we say to ourselves, ''Fll take up horse-riding (or golf, or sailing) as soon as I get a higher position/* only to do none of those things when I do get the higher position.

When I first became a reporter I knew a man who gave up a very well paid respectable Job at the Daily Telegraph to go and edit a small weekly newspaper. At the time I was astonished by what appeared to me to be his completely abnormal (反常的)mental state. How could anyone turn his back on Fleet Street in central London for a small local area? I wanted to know.

Now I am a little older and possibly wiser, I see the sense in it In Fleet Street the man was under continual pressure. He lived in an unattractive London suburb and he spent much of his life sitting on Southern Region trains.

25.The first paragraph of the passage tells us that _________ ?

A.we always try to find some time to write a book

B.we always make plans but seldom fulfil them

C.we always enjoy many of life's best moments

D.we always do what we really want to do

B. return to

C. give up

D. rely on

27.The man ( paragraph 6) left his first Job partly because he was ___________ ?

2& What is probably the best title for the passage?

A. Provide Homes For Our Family

B. Take Up Horse-riding

C. Value This Very Day

D. Stay Alive

It is often necessary to release a fish, that is, set it free after catching, because it is too small, or you just don't want to take it home to eat In some cases, releasing fish is a good measure that will help keep fish variety and build their population size. The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) encourages fishermen who practice catch-and-releaseflshing to use a few simple skills when doing so. The advice

provided below will help make sure that the fish you release will survive (存活)to bite again another day.

一When catching a fish, play it quickly and keep the fish in the water as much as possible. Don't' use a net in landing the fish and release it quickly to prevent it from dying.

—Hold the fish gently. Do not put your fingers in its eyes. Don^t wipe the scales (鱼鳞)off the fish because it might cause it to develop a disease and reduce its chance of survivaL

一Remove your hook (鱼钩)quickly. If the hook is too deep or hooked in the stomach, cut the line and leave the hook in. The hook left inside will cause no serious problem to the fish.

一Take good care of the fish by moving it gently in water. Release the fish when it begins to struggle and is able to swim-

一Do not hold fish in a bucket or some other containers and later decide to release it. If you are going to release a fish, do so right away.

With a little care and by following the suggestions given above, you can give the released fish a better chance of survivaL

Many animals recognize their food because they see it. So do humans. When you see an apple or a piece of chocolate you know that these are things you can eat. You can also use other senses when you choose your food. You may like it because it smells good or because it tastes good. You may dislike some types of food because they do not look, smell or taste very nice. Different animals use different senses to find and choose their food. A few animals depend on only one of their senses, while most animals use more than one sense.

Although there are many different types of food, some animals spend their lives eating only one type. The giant panda (大熊猫)eats only one particular type of bamboo (竹子).Other animals eat only one type of food even when given the choice. A kind of white butterfly (蝴蝶)will stay on the leaves of a cabbage, even though there are plenty of other vegetables in the garden. However, most animals have a more varied diet The bear eats fruits and fish. The fox eats small animals, birds and fruits. The diet of these animals will be different depending on the season.

Humans have a verv varied diet We often eat food because we like it and not because it is good for us. In countries such as France and Britain, people eat foods with too much sugar. This makes them overweight, which is bad for their health. Eating too much red meat and animal products, such as butter, can also be bad for the health. Choosing the right food, therefore, has become an area of study in modern life.

33.We can infer from the text that humans and animals ___________ ?

A. depend on one sense in choosing food

B. are not satisfied with their food

C. choose food in similar ways

D. eat entirely different food

34.Which of the following eats only one type of food?

A. The white butterfly.

B. The small bird.

C. The bear.

D. The fox.

35.Certain animals change their choice of food when _____________ ?

A. the season changes

B. the food color changes

C. thev move to different places

D. thev are attracted bv different smells

36.We can learn from the last paragraph that ____________ ?

A.food is chosen for a good reason

B.French and British food is good

C.some people have few choices of food

D? some people care little about healthy diet

Speech

How do you think of your teacher Sophie? 别的只知道背课本的孩子可能只会回答She is very good. She is gorgeous/perfect/fantastic.

But the desire (渴望) to paint, discover or tell stories fades (消褪) as we grow up, until that moment of finding our deep calling hits us. For Chen, this came when he was discovered by director Yee Chih-Yen in front of an ice cream store at the age of 19. His first taste of fame with the well-received drama showed him what he really wanted to be. Bolin Chen, 29, won his first award after ten years of acting. XINHUA
