My name is Betty. I'm a student in Hawaii School. Yesterday morning it was very sunny when I woke up. I looked at the alarm clock. It said 3:50! It had stopped !What time was it? I climbed out of bed and went downstairs to the kitchen. The kitchen clock said 8:30—I was late! My parents had gone to work without checking if I got up. The school bus went at 8:00. I had missed it.

I called my teacher on his mobile phone.

"I'm sorry I got up late, but I'll get to school as soon as I can!” I said.

“Go to school on my rollerblades(旱冰鞋),” I thought, "It will be faster than the bus."

I washed and dressed quickly. I took an apple to eat on the way. That was breakfast today !Then I put on my rollerblades and went to school. It took me 35 minutes to get to the school. I took all the shortcuts(近路)I knew. I went across the park—even through some backyards! When I got to school, I was very hot and my legs hurt. I had missed math, our first lesson of the morning. But I made it to our second lesson, history. I was very happy because history is my favorite subject.

But at the end of 2002,some people in Shanghai were surprised to find that the first contact with World Expo actually happened 16 years earlier- in 1851,a man called Xu Rongcun took part in the first World Expo ever, the London World Expo.

Xu Rongcun was a businessman who sold silk and tea in Shanghai. In 1851,when the United Kingdom announced that it would hold the first World Expo, Xu Rongcun thought it was a great chance to show his silk to the world. He sent 12 bags of “Huzhou Silk” to the United Kingdom.

At the beginning of the Expo, the people didn't pay much attention to Xu Rongcun's silk. However, because of its excellent quality, the silk won gold and silver medals at the Expo in the end.

If there were no World Expo, Xu Rongcun might just be a successful businessman. But his experience at the first World Expo engraved his name on the history of World Expo.

We have all experienced loss:loss of people and things. However, if we see the thing we have lost as a gift that we were given for a time, maybe the sad memories will change into thankful ones.

This particular night, his driver asked him for a favor. “Dr. Halogen, when you speak, everyone gives you honor and attention. I'd really like to see what that feels like. Could we exchange clothes just for tonight? You'll be the driver and I will be the scientist."

Dr. Halogen laughed and said, “Do you really think you can do it? What if someone asks you a difficult question?"

“I can answer it,” said the driver. “I have heard you speak on this topic many, many times. ”"All right,"said the scientist. “It is April Fool's Day after all!" Nowadays we can see that many people are cutting down the trees in the forests. A lot of rich land has become deserts. If we read newspapers,we'll learn that the forests on the earth are getting smaller all the time. People are cutting down large numbers of trees because they need wood and farmland. Some scientists say that there will not be any great forests in 20 or 30 years.

What will h happen if the forests disappear? A lot of plants will die and animals will lose their home. In many places the new farmland will soon look like the old deserts. Crops will not grow there. There won't be enough rain, and the weather will get hot and dry . If the climate of the earth changes, life will be hard for everyone. Our living environment will become worse . More and more rich farmland will disappear. We will suffer a lot from both floods and droughts.

It's our duty to protect the forests well. Everyone should try his best to make a contribution to taking care of the forests. Let's s stop cutting down the trees and make the world greener !

It was one of the hottest day of that summer. It hadn't rained for nearly one month. The plants were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk . If it didn't rain soon, we would lose everything.

I was cooking when I saw my 6-year-old son, Billy, walking slowly toward the woods .A few minutes later he came out again, toward the house. Soon after, he walked toward the woods once again:I wondered what: he was doing.

I noticed Billy went there with a bowl of water in both his hands. There was a baby deer lying on the ground. It was dying of thirst Billy walked close to it and put down the bowl in front of it. It lifted its head slowly and tried its best to drink the water. I understood what was going on. The week before, I told him not to waste water. He always kept my words in his mind. Now when he saw me standing nearby, he said with tears in his eyes, "I'm not wasting water, mum. ”"No,you aren't."I said. Tears rolled down my face.

Henry found a job in a bookstore after he finished middle school. He wouldn't do anything

but wanted to get rich.

It was a cold morning. It was snowing and there was thin ice on the streets. Few people went to buy the books and the young man had nothing to do. He hated to read,so he watched the traffic. Suddenly he saw a bag fall off a truck and it landed by the other side of the street "It must be full of expensive things.” Henry said to himself. "I have to get it right now, or others will take it away. ”

He went out of the shop and ran across the street. A driver saw him and began to whistle (鸣笛),but he didn't hear it and went on running.

The man drove to the side, hit a big tree and was hurt in the accident. Two weeks later Henry was taken to court. A judge asked if he heard the whistle when he was running across the street. He said that something was wrong with his ears and he could hear nothing.

"But you have heard me this time,"said the judge.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Now I can hear with one ear."

" Cover the ear with your hand and listen to me with your deaf one. Well, can you hear me?”

"No, I can't, sir. ”

"You are telling lies. There is nothing wrong with either of your ears. ”The judge said.

(英语)高三英语阅读理解专项训练及答案

(英语)高三英语阅读理解专项训练及答案 一、高中英语阅读理解 1.阅读理解 The setting was a packed gymnasium just before the start of a game against another school. There were five girls who were members of the Danville High School basketball team—all of them starters. They were not in uniform to play that night and would not be on the team for the rest of this season. They were there to admit their breaking of team rules. They were there to support their coach's decision to take them off the team. They were there to let the town know there was a problem in their little community that needed to be addressed. And they did it with sincere regret rather than defensiveness. While the school had been out for the New Year's holiday, the five girls had gone to the party with several of their friends. There was alcohol there. And they all drank some. Coach Rainville has a zero tolerance rule on drugs and alcohol for her members though it was a hard decision to make. When classes resumed and accounts of holiday parties were shared, rumors about the five girls began closing in on them. The coach said she couldn't back down on her rules. And the players—two junior students and three senior students—agreed. That night in the gym was part of their public support of the coach's decision. “We hope you will understand that we are not bad kids. What we did was definitely not worth it. We hope this event will make everyone realize that there is a big drug and alcohol problem in our community,” one of the senior students said, “And if you work with us to try to solve this problem, you will help us feel that we have not been thrown off our basketball team for nothing.” The five left the floor to deafening applause. The team may not win another game this year. But they've learnt something about personal responsibility, the effect of one's action on others, and honesty that will serve them well throughout life. (1)It can be inferred from the passage that the five girls who were kicked off the team were ________. A. very good players on the team B. addicted to alcohol and drugs C. three junior students and two senior students D. scolded by their parents for drinking alcohol (2)What did the girls do to support their coach's decision? A. They didn't fight for Danville High School any more. B. They all gave speeches to apologize in the local press. C. They admitted their mistake in public in the gymnasium. D. 2020年高三英语材料之阅读理解精品版

高三英语材料之阅读理解 阅读理解1 A Besides entertainment and beautiful lanterns, another important part of the Lantern Festival ,or Yuanxiao Festival is eating small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour. We call these balls Yuanxiao or Tangyuan. Obviously, they get the name from the festival itself. It is said that the custom of eating Yuanxiao originated during the Eastern Jin Dynasty in the fourth century, then became popular during the Tang and Song periods. The fillings inside the dumplings or Yuansiao are either sweet or salty. Sweet fillings are made of sugar, Walnuts, sesame(芝麻), osmanthus flowers(桂花), rose petals, sweetened tangerine(橘子)peel, bean paste, or jujube paste(枣子酱). A single ingredient or any combination can be used as the filling . The salty variety is filled with minced meat(肉末儿), vegetables or a mixture. The way to make Yuanxiao also varies between northern and southern China. The usual method followed in southern provinces is to shape the dough of rice flour into balls, make a hole, insert the filling, then close the hole and smooth out the dumpling by rolling it between your hands. In North China, sweet or nutmeat stuffing is the usual ingredient. The fillings are pressed into hardened cores, dipped lightly in water and rolled in a flat basket containing dry glutinous rice flour. A layer of the flour sticks to the filling, which is then again dipped in water and rolled a second time in the rice flour. And so it goes, like rolling a snowball, until the dumpling is the desired size. The custom of eating Yuanxiao dumplings remains. This tradition encourages both old and new stores to promote their Yuanxiao products. They all try their best to improve the taste and quality of the dumplings to attract more customers. 1.Which of the following is NOT true? A.The custom of eating Yuanxiao dates back to the fourth century. B.Sugar, rose petals and minced meat are all fillings of Yuanxiao. C.Sweet Yuanxiao are usually made in southern China. 高考英语阅读理解专项训练及答案及解析

高考英语阅读理解专项训练及答案及解析 一、高中英语阅读理解 1.阅读理解 Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is gaining global popularity. According to a government white paper, TCM has been introduced in 183 countries and regions around the world. Westerners' understanding of TCM, however, may be limited to acupuncture, cupping and massage(针灸,拔罐和按摩). For instance, the purple, injury-like marks left on U. S. swimmer Michael Phelps, back from cupping for the purpose of relaxing his muscles and reducing pain became the center of attention during the Rio Olympics in 2016. As a matter of fact, Chinese herbs play a more important role in getting rid of diseases and keeping the body in good condition in the TCM treatment system than physical treatment. It is therefore disheartening to know that while 103 World Health Organization member countries have given approval to the practice of acupuncture, not many recognize Chinese herbal medicine. TCM falls far behind Western medicine owing partly to the slow development of Chinese herbs. Herbs are made into pills, powder and soup, and the kind of herbs used, their quality and quantity, and the processing of the ingredients (原材料) jointly determine the effectiveness of the prescription. Compared with Western medicine, which has standardized drug production processes and treatment methods, TCM lacks standardization, with the chemical composition and functions of its medicines being unclear and their effects being unstable. Fortunately, standardization has improved in recent decades, with an increasing number of factories producing patented TCM drugs. Another factor that has prevented the development of TCM prescription drugs is the lack of creativity. While Western medicine-making companies come up with new products every year, TCM drug producers tend to make medicines according to prescriptions handed down from the past. Chinese chemist Tu Youyou's winning the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her research into malaria (疟疾) treatment may drive creativity to some extent in China's TCM industry. However, the current state of affairs cannot be changed within a short time. (1)Why does the author mention the example of Michael Phelps? A. Because he was injured in his swimming. B. Because cupping is a kind of important TCM treatment. C. Because westerners know a little about TCM. D. Because westerners attach great importance to TCM. (2)Why don't some member countries of WHO recognize Chinese herbal medicine? A. Because Chinese herbs can get rid of diseases. B. Because they only approve the practice of acupuncture. C. Because Western medicine is more effective. D. Because medicine made out of Chinese herbs develops slowly. (3)Compared with Western medicine, what is the weak point of TCM in Paragraph 4? A. The methods of planting herbs. B. The effectiveness of prescription. C. Lacking in standardization. D. Its stable functions.
