Meanwhile, this book reconfirmed a thought that the prosperity of some capitalist countries is based on the unknowns’ sacrifice. The story in the article is mainly about this, a sla一veholder had to sell his two sla一ves, one of whom named Tom, to pay deb一t. Faced to this kind of miserable life and being a sla一ve who is loyal to his owner, Tom never thought to run away, because he, a real believer in Christianity, had decided to pursue to be an honest man all his life. Tom’s new owner ma de him live a more unbearable life, what’s worse, Tom didn’t change his mind.

Uncle Tom's cabin is frequently criticized by people who have never read the work, myself included.I decided I finally needed to read it and judge it for myself. And I have to say, that for all its shortcomings,it is really a remarkable book. The standout characteristics of this book are the narrative drive, the vivid characters, the sprawling cast, the several completely different worlds that were masterfully portrayed, and the strong female characters in the book. The portrayal of slavery and its effects on families and on individuals is gut-wrenching-when Uncle Tom has to leave his family, and when Eliza may lose little Harry, one feels utterly desolate. As for flaws, yes,Mrs.Stowe does sermonize a fair bit,and her sentences and pronounc. But in her time, she went far beyond the efforts of most of her contemporaries to both see and portray her African-American brothers and sisters are equal to her.The best way she did this was in her multi-dimensional portrayal of her Negro characters--they are,in fact, more believable and more diverse than her white characters.Yes,at times her portrayal of Little Eva and Uncle Tom is overdone at times--they are a little cardboard in places--but both,Uncle Tom especially, are overall believable, and very inspiring. The rest of the Negro characters-George Harris,Eliza,Topsy,Cassie,Emmeline,Chloe,Jane and Sara,Mammy,Alphonse,Prue, and others, span the whole spectrumof humanity--they are vivid and real. The comments of a previous reviewer that the book actually justifies slavery and that it shows that Christianity defends slavery are due to sloppy reading of the book.No one reading the book could possibly come to the conclusion that it does anything but condemn slavery in the strongest and most indubitable terms. This was the point of the book. The aside about capitalism was just that,an aside on the evils of capitalism. It did not and does not negate the attack on slavery.Secondly, another major point of the book is that TRUE Christianity does not and could not ever support slavery.Stowe points out the Biblical references used to claim that Christianity defended slavery merely to show how the Bible can be misused by those who wish to defend their own indefensible viewpoint. It's ridiculous to say that the book"shows that Christianity supported slavery".It shows that some misguided preachers abused certain Bible passages and ignored other ones to support their view of slavery.下载文档。

《汤姆叔叔的小屋》英文读后感

《汤姆叔叔的小屋》英文读后感"Uncle Tom's Cabin" is a novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It tells the story of a slave, Tom, and his experiences in the American South. When the novel was published in 1852, it had a profound impact on the United States and helped to galvanize the anti-slavery movement. Over 160 years later, the book remains a powerful reminder of the horrors of slavery and the importance of standing up for what is right.Tom is a slave in Kentucky, where he lives with his wife and children. His owner, Mr. Shelby, is deeply in debt and decides to sell Tom and other slaves in order to pay off his debts. Tom is bought by a slave trader, who takes him to New Orleans. There, Tom is sold to Simon Legree, a cruel and brutal plantation owner. Tom refuses to betray his principles, even in the face of torture, and ultimately dies for his beliefs.Stowe's novel is a poignant and tragic portrayal of the lives of enslaved people in America. It is a harsh reminder of the inhumanity of slavery and the toll it took on the lives of those who lived through it. Stowe's powerful writing is still as effective today as it was in the 19th century, and it is easy to see why "Uncle Tom's Cabin" had such a profound impact on American society. One of the most important aspects of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" is the way Stowe humanizes the characters who are often treated as objects or property. Through the character of Tom, Stowe shows that slaves are not animals or commodities, but human beings with thoughts and feelings. This is a crucial point that is often overlooked in discussions of slavery, and Stowe helped to bring itto the forefront of public consciousness.Despite the fact that "Uncle Tom's Cabin" was written in the mid-19th century, its themes of racism and inequality are still relevant today. The novel is a reminder that while we have come a long way since the time of slavery, we still have a long way to go. We must continue to work towards a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their skin color or socio-economic status. In conclusion, "Uncle Tom's Cabin" is a powerful and important novel that continues to resonate with readers to this day. It is a testament to the human spirit and the power of standing up for what is right, even in the face of adversity. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to better understand the history of slavery in America and the ongoing struggle for civil rights.。

"Uncle Tom's cabin" is the American writer Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote a reflection of slavery of the giant, is a great anti slavery declaration. It set off the climax of the American abolition movement, and had a profound impact on the people of the world against racial discrimination and freedom and democracy. This novel mainly tells the slave owner Hilby to repay the debt, decided to sell loyal Tom and harry. Allie is not a check, at the mercy of the hell-bent to be docile and obedient slaves, when she happened to know to sell the news of his son, Harry overnight with a suessful escape. Submissive and obedient to the master he is another kind of experience. He was willing to be sold to slave traders by his owners. After being self saved by the girl's father Mr. San Claire bought, when their father died, Tom was finally cruel Marie San Claire sold to slave Legre a murderous there was severely killed with a whip.At the end of nieenth Century, the United States there is a devastating dignity of the slave system, this systemis the backward area of black Africa, and forced to the new world, when the sale of livestock, suffered the sale of slaves began their life. After the slave of career. Uncle Tom's cabin is a tragic story that happened during that period. After reading this story, I feel sympathy for the poor uncle Tom, sympathy for his poor identity, sympathy for his miserable fate; I hate cruel slave and a slave merchant, hate their brutal fierce and hated them indifferent; I also feel this kind of injustice of slavery, is the system the dark is uneven, uneven system is not equal; but I feltgreat admiration for president Lincoln, admire his determination to abolish slavery, abolition of slavery to admire his real action. When I saw Legree ordered Tom to say two escaped slave whereabouts, uncle Tom would rather die than say, heavywhip mercilessly fell upon Tom, was finally beaten to death, I could not help heart startled, excited, I move for uncle Tom's upright! My master legrip brutal anger! I feel indignant for the oppressed slave! But those who do bad things, sucked dry meat slaves blood slaves slaves and even more outrageous. In the slave society at that time, black people belonged to the lowest class. They were not free, abused, beaten, bought and sold at will. The good uncle Tom helpedso many people, but finally he was tortured to death. If he dared to run away like Ellie, he might not have that tragic fate. Therefore, I think that my life should be themselves, can not be submissive, listening at the mercy of others. In this book, the person I admire most is Eva, Eva is not only a beautiful angel face, pure heart, can share everything, treat everyone equally, regardless of is the humble people, if they have difficulties or need help, she will do whatever they can to to help them. However, her own fate can not be changed - she has a selfish mother, she never felt the selfless and great maternal love, but shestill love her mother, because she was born with a lover's heart. Although her life was not happy, she thought she had at least one home and had a shelter. Although she was tortured by pain all the time, although she could only survive the last moment of her life, she felt love. Herkind heart made her free at the last moment of her life."Uncle Tom's cabin" after reading this book, I understand that behind the polite capitalism, is ruthless exploitation of slaves and qiaoguxisui; on the day of the American prosperity, is tightly contact and evil of slavery together. But so far, there are still some Americans who discriminate against blacks. How to expect every country in the world to protect the weak, so that people do not hunger, cold, no bullying oppression, how to expect every corner ofthe world can be equal, no hierarchical concept, I hopethis kind of crime and discrimination will always disappear in this beautiful earth!。

These days I've just finished the novel Uncle Tom's Cabin that left a really deep impression on me and we can see.It is a book written in 1852 in response to the passage of the Fugitive Slave Law, Uncle Tom's Cabin has been considered as the most influential anti-slavery novel in that period and described by Stowe herself as a “series of sketches” describing the human cruelty of slavery, opens with a description of Arthur Shelby's Kentucky plantation during the antebellum period. There are several impressive characters in this novel,George who is clever and brave;Harry, a beautiful and talented child who sings dances and mimes;Mrs. Shelby, a very religious woman;Sambo and Qimbo and so on. The major character Uncle Tom who was the most impressive in this novel was a devout Christian. He endured the miserable fate bravely and aroused the white's sympathy for slaves with his Christ's sacrificeand the tolerance of returning good for evil. This novel focuses on the distinctive personalities of Uncle Tom deeply influenced by Christianity and the important role Uncle Tom's Cabin playing on abolition; and the Significance of “Uncle Tom” to the harmonious world's development, and the effect on modern people. In the book, at the beginning, the author presents us a very beautiful image of a rather harmonious family who live a happy life. However, that beautiful image couldn't last long, the darkness came soon. The master of this happy family, Uncle Tom was arranged into a difficult situation. As Shelby, the not cruel master,he has incurred serious debts- prompting him sell some slaves to avoid financial ruin, so Uncle Tom, Shelby's loyal servant since childhood was sold to Mr. Haley, the slave trader. Uncle Tom remained loyal to his master, despite his betrayal and the risk of death at the cruel hands of a new master. The slaves at the plantation were very mournful, but Tom remained placid and tried to read his Bible for fort. On the steamboat to New Orleans, where Tom was to be sold, Tom befriended an angeliclittle girl,“Little Eva” St. Clare. Uncle Tom saved the five-year-old beauty from drowning, and she convinced her father to buy Tom for her own family. In her family, Tom enjoyed his life because of the girl's love; Tom's contentment does not last, however, because Eva soon falls ill. Dying, Eva asked Mr. St. Clare to free Tom after her death. But Mr. St. Clare is so sad by her death that he never legally freed Tom before he himself was killed trying to mediate a barroom scuffle. Mrs. St. Clare sold the slaves to settle her husband's debts and Tom was sold to Simon Legree who was so violent that beat his slaves brutally. At last, when Mr. Shelby, finally found Uncle Tom, he was almost died. After Tom was dead and buried, Shelby went back and freed his slaves. As we all can see that Uncle Tom's Cabin was an anti-slavery novel and it was even considered as one factor that caused the Civil War. In the novel, the slaves were sold from one place to another frequently, and their fate was tragic, with no exception- just like Uncle Tom, no matter he was under the control of kind masters or evil masters, he can't escape the misfortuneof being sold from one master to another. We can't see any human right of them, so terrible. As someone said, with more people realizing the inhumanity of slavery in the 19th century, slavery became one of the most important issues and it became more violent year by year in American society. However, slavery was not abolished irrevocably until ratification of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution in 1865, following the Civil War. After the passage of Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote this novel Uncle Tom's Cabin which publicized the evil of slavery to a wide audience. Now we are in the 21st century, we may never e across such kind of thing. However, this book can always remind of us that there ever has existed this evil and we can't let it happen again. And “equality”、“human right ” can't just be a slogan, we should make it e true really and always.汤姆叔叔的小屋英文的读后感:Some time ago, I read a person's fame Khvostov of as "Uncle Tom's cabin." Integrity, good-natured, religious Uncle Tom; prudent, smart, studious Mestizo slave George; inexcusableruthless slave traders Hailey; destroys human nature, conscience ruined the alegre; a sense of justice, but drift, such as the St. Clair lifelike characters left me a deep impression on him. What made me the most unforgettable is the smart and lively but wild full, and later transferred teach self-esteem a slave girlTOM love.TOM blacks had the most black, a pair of round bright eyes as sparkling glass beads, like, look a bit strange face is a shrewd and crafty Kyrgyzstan wonderful binations, like a goblin-like. She loves to steal, stealing after lie, put an innocent expression; her misbehavior, all making her revenge, hoaxes; she would take advantage of the master out, crazy couple of hours to make his home mess. Her owner exhausted all ways to punish her, education, she tried to change her bad habits, but to no avail, this is only because there is no love!Think about it! This was lovely child, born into slavery, she belonged to them all the only masters of the so-called masters of her fate. Her childhood on his master's scolding to grow up, so she formed the habitof lying, bad habit of stealing things, and that she was beautiful, tarnished the purity of heart. In this there is no dignity, experiencing being separated from being whipped all day circumstances, how can we have a noble moral character and firm in faith? Only pure, beautiful, selfless love can save her soul! When the angelic Eva to her love of her time,TOM eyes cast the tears that her heart has been ray of sunshine of love. Sure enough, after the changeTOM Well, her efforts to care for others. This is the punishment, not preaching Forever effect, full of love beyond all words! This is the power of love!In our lives, there are many like TOM as children. Their bad behavior, there is no love, will not listen to reason, then do not hate him, to understand with love, tolerance, stripped away a layer of green shoots yellow things, with love to the hearts of probation numb. We should always remember; the power of love is enormous, and the supreme! "Uncle Tom's cabin" This masterpiece has been published in 150 years, it has been able to make today is still deeply moved by readers, but also because the author in the book preachedbrotherhood and humanity in the disappearance of slavery today has been the eternal pursuit of mankind.。

汤姆叔叔的小屋英文读书报告

Pursuit of Freedom in Uncle Tom’s CabinIntroductionUncle Tom’s cabin is a novel by the American female novelist Harriet Beecher Stowe published in 1852. In this novel, Mrs. Stowe criticized the slavery and expressed the compassion for the black slaves. Therefore, the novel had a great effect on Africa Americans and slavery in the US, and it also influenced the Civil War’s breaking out to some degree so that the President Lincoln called the author “the little lady who started the big war”. Mrs. Stowe, born in the State of Connecticut, was a teacher at Hartford Female Academy and she was also a pious Christian. As a Christian, she regarded slavery inhumane.A summary of the bookThe story took place in the 1850s. Uncle Tom, an honest slave on the Shelby plantation, is respected by his owners and all the slaves on this plantation. However, Tom has to be sold because Mr. Shelby, the owner of the plantation, is deeply in debt to a slaver called Haley. Along with Tom, a boy called Harry, the child of his wife's servant Eliza, is to be sold as well. Though Tom is sorrowful, he still vows that he won’t run away. Because he knows if he did so, his master would be caught in debt so deeply that he would have to sell all the slaves.Just before Tom is taken away, Mrs. Shelby promises him that she will buy him back as soon as she can gather the funds. Eventually Tom was sold to a kindly master named Mr. St. Clare.Eliza, however, cannot bear to part with her son and escapes the night before he is to be taken from her. She escapes successfully and reaches a Quaker village where she is reunited with her husband George, who has also escaped from his master’s plantation. They spend a night in the family and set off to Canada. Though there are slave hunters hunting them and George also has a firefight with these hunters, they arrived in Canada successfully at last.Tom befriends his new master and especially his young daughter Eva, who shares Tom’s deep religious faith and devotion. Unfortunately, Eva becomes ill and is going to die. She accepts the news peacefully and tells her family and their servants that she is happy knowing that she is going to heaven, where such cruelty does not exist. St. Clare begins to confront therealization that he believes slavery is evil, and he promises Tom that he will give him freedom in the event of St. Clare’s death.Shortly after Eva dies, her father dies tragically in an accident, and Tom's fate is left entirely in the hands of Mrs. St. Clare. She decides to move back to her parents' estate and to sell all the slaves. Though she is asked to fulfill St. Clare's promise to give Tom his freedom, she refuses and Tom ends up in the hands of Simon Legree, an evil plantation owner. He forces his slaves to work hard and replaces them when they inevitably die just a few years later. On Legree's plantation, Tom meets two slaves: Emmeline and Cassy. Emmeline is a young mulatto woman sold to Legree at the same time as Tom, and she attempts to befriend the Cassy, who has suffered at the hands of Legree for several years. Legree soon comes to hate Tom after Tom refuses to beat and discipline the other slaves. Legree planned to turn Tom into an overseer, and when he realizes that Tom will not take it, he becomes angry and takes out his wrath on Tom. Tom becomes discouraged until he dreams of the heaven one night. So he decides it is his mission to suffer for the other slaves and he tries his best to help other slaves, which annoys Legree. And when Emmeline and Cassy escape, he demands that Tom tell him everything he knows. Tom admits that he knew their plans to escape and their whereabouts, but he refuses to disclose where they are. Legree beats Tom so severely that after a few days, he dies.Cassy and Emmeline eventually escape, and they happen to meet George Shelby, who is rooming next to a woman named Madame de Thoux. Through conversation, it is discovered that Eliza Harris is Cassy's daughter, and George Harris is Madame de Thoux's brother. Cassy and Madame de Thoux journey together to Canada, where they are reunited with their family. Madame de Thoux reveals that her husband has left her a large inheritance, and they all move to France together. The family then moves to Africa, and Cassy's long-lost son, who has been found, joins them finally and George Shelby gives all the servants on the Shelby farm their freedom, and tells them to be Christians and to think of Tom.Comments on the BookFrom this novel, I learned more about the American social situation before the Civil war, different opinions about the slavery, and people with different kinds of qualities.About the American social situation, I learned the plantation economy in southern part of the US in the 1950s, the slave’s living condition. About the different opinions about the slavery, I learned that some plantation owners who are pious Christian think trading slaves is wicked and doesn’t accord to the dogma, but they don’t oppose owning slaves and that others like slavers, conservative plantation owners regard slave as a kind of property or a tool to make money. About the people with different kinds of qualities, I learned the honesty of Uncle Tom, the braveness and brightness of George, the kindness of Eva, the cruelty of Legree. However, though the novel makes me learn a lot, what impress me most are different people’s pursuits of freedom and among these people pursuing freedom, the most typical people are Uncle Tom and George. The two persons and their completely different fates can reflect two opposite choices when people pursue freedom. In the novel Uncle Tom’s cabin, both Uncle Tom and George are keen on freedom. But when the two men faces the fact that they will be sold, Tom chooses to accept it and George chooses to escape. The two different ways imply two different choices to pursue freedom in essence and it’s the different choices that lead to the different results: Tom dies and George survives. From the results, we can learn clearly which choice is better and now I just want to analyze why they make different choices. The first reason, I think, is the different characters. Uncle Tom, as we know, is honest, kind, hard-working, tolerant and pious. He is loyal to his master and he believes if only he is honest and loyal to his master, he can get freedom from his master someday. But at last he fails and dies. George, a smart, ambitious and young man, doesn’t believe that plantation owners can give him freedom. He knows he must acquire freedom by himself. George is brave, confident and he has a spirit of adventure and revolution. Therefore, he gets freedom finally. The second reason, in my opinion, is the different experiences. Uncle Tom has a kind master: Mr. Shelby. On the Shelby plantation, he is well treated. He is loyal to his master and his master believes in him and promises that he will give Tom freedom. As a result, Tom believes it’s his honesty that helps him get freedom and he never intends to escape. However, George, the young man, has a bad master. He works hard but his master treats him badly and he is often abused by his master. As a result, he doesn’t believe his master can give himfreedom. So when he gets a chance to escape, he takes it without any hesitation. The third reason, as far as I am concerned, is the reorganization towards slave owner. Uncle Tom is a pious Christian and believes if only he does well, he will get a reward: freedom and he just needs to be patient because he has sin. So he pins his hope on slave owner who treat slaves as property, not human. George has suffered a lot from what the slave owner does. He doe sn’t count on his master to give him freedom. He thinks however slave owners treat slaves, slaves are just a kind of property and slaves can’t get true freedom. So he decides to pursue freedom by himself. The three reasons above, I think, can explain why Uncle Tom and George can make different choices and have different results. And after analyzing the reasons of the two men’s different choices, my opinion about pursuit of freedom is to fight for, not to wait for and that we should pin our hope to ourselves, not others.“Life is dear, love is dearer. Both can be given up for freedom.”On the way of pursuing freedom, waiting just means perdition. Fighting can bring a new lease of life. Both Chinese Revolution and American Revolution can prove that it’s right to fight for freedom. On the way of pursuing freedom, I prefer to be George rather than Uncle Tom.。

Uncle Tom’s Cabin Reading Report U ncle Tom’s Cabin is written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. She was a teacher of Hartford Female Academy and a positive abolitionist.1850,she and her husband moved to Maine, where about anti-slavery discussion made her excited, so she used free time to write the Uncle Tom's Cabin. This novel made her fame. The impact was summed up in a commonly quoted statement apocryphally attributed to Abraham Lincoln. When he met Stowe, it is claimed that he said, "So you're the little woman who wrote the book that made this Great War!"
Uncle Tom's Cabin was published in 1852 ,an anti-slavery novel. African Americans in this novel about slavery and the views of the United States have produced far-reaching implications, and to some extent led to the American Civil War exacerbated by regional or local conflicts. The book revolves around a well-suffering slave Uncle Tom's story unfolds, and described him with his side, both slaves and slave owners, the experience. This deeply sentimental novel depicts the cruel nature of slavery; and that Christian love can be overcome by the enslavement of fellow human beings caused by various injuries.
This book is about the early nineteenth century, Kentucky's farmer Shelby’s failed business, was forced to sell slaves to repay debts with Tom and little Harry. George Harris, his wife Eliza and his son Harry were fleeing to Northern Canada, twists and turns, and finally safely met each other and lived a truly free people’s lives. Honest, sincere Uncle Tom got a new owner St·Clare and his daughter Eva’s love, but unfortunately Eva was ill and died, and Mr. Clare was killed when he was going to give free to Uncle Tom. Uncle Tom died from abusing and beating by the devil incarnate of the farmer Simon·Legree.
I was surprised at the various kinds of relationships between whites and blacks of the South. We learn that not all whites were bad and not all blacks were good, but that there were quite a mixture of characters and relationships. That was an emphasis of the book. It's not a melodrama, but shows an evil institution which allows both good and evil and all those in between to exist under it, and how this institution affects the individuals.
I found Stowe's main purpose of this book was to nakedly expose the
institution of slavery to America and the rest of the world with the hopes that something would be done about it. To achieve this purpose, she showed us individual instances of slavery in a country that prided itself on its Christianity and its laws protecting freedom. She showed us how absurd slavery is "beneath the shadow of American laws and the shadow of the cross of Christ.
This is a tragic history of black slaves. Tom is good, but it is because of his goodness and piety toward the dead end of his road. Description of a naked group of American slavery under the vampire, its purpose is to arouse awareness of the black slave revolt so that they can for their own freedom and the courage to fight evil in the end. On the other hand, it demonstrated a critique of slavery.。
