英语18种重要修辞手法

18种重要修辞手法一、语义修辞1明喻(simile)俗称直喻,是依据比喻和被比喻两种不同事物的相似关系而构成的修辞格。
例如:a figure of speech in which denotes a simmilarility betwe en things of different kinds.1.The snow was like a white blanket drawn over the field.2.He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.认真观察以上各例,我们会发现它们的特点,由(as)... as, like等引导,这些引导词被称作比喻词(acknowledging word),它们是辨别明喻的最显著的特征,明喻较为直白,比喻物和被比喻物之间相似点较为明显,所以明喻是一种比较好判断的修辞手法。
2暗喻(metaphor)也称隐喻,是依据比喻和被比喻两种不同事物的相似或相关关系而构成的修辞格。
例如:a figure of speech in which refers to sth that denotes literally in order to suggest a similarity.1.His friend has become a thorn in his side.(他的朋友已变成眼中钉肉中刺。
)2.You are your mother’s glass.(你是你母亲的翻版。
)3.Hope is a good breakfast, but it’s a bad supper.由以上各例可知,暗喻没有引导词,这是明喻和暗喻在形式上的最大区别。
换句话说,有为明喻,没有为暗喻。
如:He has a heart of stone. He has a heart like stone.

1:English:I was reading a book the other day, and I came across this really interesting oxymoron - "bittersweet". It got me thinking about how life is full of these oxymoronic situations. I was chatting with my friend Tom about it. "Tom," I said, "isn't it crazy how we have words like 'bittersweet'? It's like saying something is both good and bad at the same time." Tom laughed and replied, "Yeah, it's like that time I got a promotion at work but had to move to a new city away from all my friends. It was a happy - sad moment, just like 'bittersweet'." We started coming up with more examples. "What about 'deafening silence'?" I asked. "Oh, that's a great one!" Tom exclaimed. "It's like when you're in a big empty room, and there's no sound at all, but the lack of noise is almost overwhelming. It's as if the silence is so loud it deafens you." This made me realize how oxymorons can really capture the complexity of our feelings and experiences.

(Simile)Eg:The snow is as thick as a blanket.暗喻(Metaphor)Eg: Time is money.矛盾修辞法(Oxymoron)完全反义的关系,比如美丽的错误,残酷的善心...eg:Would you have the cruel kindness to give me aquick death? Antonymy反义词D.Hyponymy上下关系转喻(Metonymy)就是借用甲来表示乙,但前提条件是甲必须与乙关系密切和本质上有相似之处,比如用华盛顿可以代表美国政府,还有这个例子也比较好懂。
Oxymoron 逆喻 矛盾修此法

Oxymoron 逆喻矛盾修此法EtymologyInadvertent oxymoronsOxymorons are sometimes inadvertently created by errors or sloppiness in conversation; common examples include extremely average, objective opinion, and original copy.In some cases an inadvertent oxymoron ends up being widely adopted as the name for some concept, in which case it may cease to be recognised as an oxymoron. Cases where this has occurred[citation needed] include bittersweet, virtual reality, and living dead.Oxymorons as punsA great many oxymorons have been popularised in vernacular speech. Unlike literary oxymorons, many of these are not intended to construct a paradox; they are simplypuns. Examples include controlled chaos, open secret and organized mess.[clarif ication needed]There are also many examples where terms that are superficially contradictory are juxtaposed in such as way that there is no contradiction. Examples include same difference,[clarif ication needed]pretty ugly (in which context pretty means rather, not attractive) and hot ice (hot and ice mean "stolen" and "diamonds", respectively, in criminal argot). Whether or not these may legitimately be called oxymorons is debatable.Oxymorons as paradoxesOften a writer will use an oxymoron in order to deliberately call attention to a contradiction. For example Wilfred Owen, in his poem The Send-off refers to soldiers leaving for the front line, who "lined the train with faces grimly gay." In this case the oxymoron grimly gay highlights the contradiction between how the soldiers feel and how they act: though putting on a brave face and acting gay, they actually feel grim. One case where many oxymorons are used together can be found in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, where Romeo declares"O heavy lightness! Serious vanity!Mis-shapen chaos of well-seeming forms!Feather of lead, bright smoke, cold fire, sick health!"Some paradoxical oxymorons that become cliches:∙Ninja Turtle (because ninjas are fast but turtles are slow)∙Deafening silence∙Sweet sorrow∙Showbiz news∙Forward retreat∙Silent Scream∙Quiet Riot∙Serious Joke。

• An oxymoron is a figure of speech that combines two normally contradictory terms. Oxymoron is a loanword from Greek oxy ("sharp") and moros ("dull"). Thus the word oxymoron is itself an oxymoron. • An oxymoron is used mainly to create humour thus, for example leading an audience watching a play, to think about what's happening and give them a deeper more meaningful understanding of the text.
