1. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.工作中总不乏要出各种失误和错误。

但是不建议跟客户“直截了当”地道歉(在日企/日本人客户除外),比如"I apologize for ... " 或者"It is my mistake that... "。

这是因为你一旦如此明显的道歉,那么如果出了问题就是你的责任,就是你公司的责任。

尤其对于从事咨询行业的你来说,这一点是比较致命的。

所以如果你出了小差错(比如发错邮件、搞错时间地点、文件里有地方写错等等),那么的方式就是再发一个邮件加以纠正,结尾加上"Sorry for any inconvenience caused". 这样既得体,又避免了直接把所有责任都揽到你身上。

但是,如果是一项重大失误,那么这句客套话的份量就不够了。

这时候最妥当的方式是和你的上级商量补救方式以及如何回复对方,而不是忙不迭的跟对方说“my sincere apology..."。

Again,这是涉及到责任归属问题,除非责任明确属于你或者你公司,否则不要直截了当的道歉。

有时候,如果你觉得给别人发邮件要求别人做什么事情是在麻烦对方,也可以加上这句话。

但是,如果是同事之间,下属和老板之间,出了错就要大方承认,没必要使用这句客套话。

而如果你养成一个好习惯在回复时为对方阅读考虑,那么自然会让对方对你留下好印象。

或者,如果是讨论一个项目的重大问题,那也需要加上这句话,让客户或工作伙伴知道你的回复并不是最终答案,可能还会在你内部讨论后修正。

注意多用team这个词,老外喜欢。

有时候两个人也叫team. 甚至我还见过一个人也能自称team的。

但如果是同事、工作场合较熟悉对象,就没必要这么客套了,直接提问题即可。

13. Sorry for my late reply.这句话不是让你说什么,而是让你不说什么。

有时候你看到客户邮件没回,隔了一两天甚至几天才回,这时候就别解释这么晚才回的原因了,越描越黑。

直接用这句话开个头,然后进入正题即可。

记住,有时候话越多越没必要。

14. I will be on vacation / I will be on annual leave / I will be travelling next week英语中的nuance是令人惊叹的。

上述这三种说法都是表示你下星期休假,但却是对不同的人说的:on vacation一般是对同事或比较亲密的人说的。

意思就是你去度假了,是一种直白的表达。

on annual leave一般是对客户、工作伙伴或比较疏远的人说的。

因为annual leave是个中性词,谁也不知道你为什么要休年假——可能是因为度假,也可能是家里有事。

而一般西方社会比较尊重别人的annual leave,所以你这么说了别人就懂了I will be travelling是比较圆滑的说法,因为你也可能是因为出差而travelling。

一般这么说的情况就是你不想让别人知道你的行踪,也不想让对方知道你休假;但travelling会导致收邮件、接电话受到限制,这个别人也懂了。

说到这个程度就可以了,别人出于尊重隐私一般不会追问。

15. check in不要以为只是酒店入住登记的意思,在邮件里经即可表示”获取信息“也可以表示“汇报“老外有时候发邮件主题就是check in 两个字,邮件的内容就是问一个问题。
