In our weekly staff meeting, our editor Ashley was not pleased with the quality of our reporting.“Our readership is way down. We need better stories for this Thursday's school newspaper. Does anybody have any ideas?” she said.I handed her my article about our basketball team beating Deerfield High School the previous night by one point. “Sports stories are fun,” she said,“but not good enough for the front page. We need something to really get people’s attention.”After our meeting, we left the newsroom together and heard someone screaming,“Perry is missing!” Perry was a big red parrot and had been our school mascot (吉祥物) for ten years. He played an important role in students' lives, both in and out of class. He had also been a constant presence at school events, inspiring a sense of unity among students.Everyone gathered around Perry's empty cage, heartbroken. Suddenly, a student from the crowd came over and showed me a photo. "You're a reporter for the school paper, right? I happened to take this yesterday," he said. In the photo was a Deerfield High School basketball player with something large hidden under his shirt around the size of a parrot.“He must have stolen Perry to get back at us for winning the game!” Ashley cried. We hurried back to the newsroom, agreeing to run the photo on the front page with the headline "Deerfeld Stole Perry.”“This is just the story we need. Everyone will read it,” Ashley said confidently. After she left, I took a closer look at the photo. The clock in the background read 4:15 pm, but our game against Deerfield hadn't started until 4:30 pm. Why would the boy have taken Perry before we even played? An uneasy feeling came over me that we might have falsely accused someone.I went to Perry’s usual caretaker to ask if he knew Perry was missing. “He’s not missing. He’s retired. He's ready for some quieter days,” he said. Learning the truth, I immediately told Ashley and suggested writing a story to say goodbye to Perry.

I had an interesting childhood. It was filled with surprise and amusements, all because of my mother--loving, sweet, yet absent-minded and forgetful. Despite mom's being absent-minded and forgetful, she was still a kind and nice mom.【2018年浙江高考题】开头:It was summer and my dad wanted to treat me to a vacation like never before. He decided to take me on a trip to the Wild West. Never had I had such a thrilling yet dangerous vacation before. The special trip to the Wild West was deeply engraved in my mind.2.

“Oh, Mary?” A nurse answered. “She’s one of the nicest patients we’ve had.” Then she directed us to the waiting room and told us that only two of us were permitted to go into the ward(病房) at a time to say goodbye to Grandma before she went in for surgery.
When I was going into sixth grade, we were told that Grandma only had 2% heart function. Her heart wasn’t benefiting her anymore, but she found out that there was a way to live longer: an IVAD. It is a heart pump (起搏器) that replaces the heart, basically, a battery instead of a heart and it’s connected to a battery pack by a tube that comes out of the side. Grandma would become a robot with no heart! The Toledo Hospital near us that could do this surgery, offered to do it for Grandma. She, obviously, agreed.

I was invited to a cookout on an old friend's farm in western Washington. I parked my car outside the farm and walked past a milking house which had apparently not been used in many years. A noise at a window caught my attention, so I entered it. It was a hummingbird (蜂鸟), desperately trying to escape. She was covered in spiderwebs(蛛网) and was barely able to move her wings. She ceased her struggle the instant I picked her up. With the bird in my cupped hand, I looked around to see how she had gotten in. The broken window glass was the likely answer. I stuffed a piece of cloth into the hole and took her outside, closing the door securely behind me.When I opened my hand, the bird did not fly away; she sat looking at me with her bright eyes. I removed the sticky spiderwebs that covered her head and wings. Still, she made no attempt to fly. Perhaps she had been struggling against the window too long and was too tired? Or too thirsty? As I carried her up the blackberrylined path toward my car where I kept a water bottle, she began to move. I stopped, and she soon took wing but did not immediately fly away.Hovering( 悬停), she approached within six inches of my face. For a very long moment, this tiny creature looked into my eyes, turning her head from side to side. Then she flew quickly out of sight.During the cookout, I told my hosts about the hummingbird incident. They promised to fix the window. As I was departing, my friends walked me to my car. I was standing by the car when a hummingbird flew to the center of our group and began hovering. She turned from person to person until she came to me. She again looked directly into my eyes, then let out a squeaking call and was gone. For a moment, all were speechless. Then someone said, “She must have e to say good bye.”

Para1 A few weeks later, I went back to the farm.para 2 I was about to leave, the hummingbird appeared.范文1A few weeks later, I went to the farm again. On arrival, I approached the milking house and notice that the broken window had been pletely fixed, with no sign of the danger that had once threatened the small bird. I was relieved and grateful that my friends had taken my warning to heart and taken action to protect the hummingbird. I spent the afternoon exploring the farm and chatting with my friends, hoping to catch a glimpse of the little bird. However, a ripple of sadness surged through me when not seeing the lovely creature the whole day. The night screen was to hang down.I was just about to leave when the hummingbird appeared. She was flying around me and hovering just a few inches in front of my face. I was amazed and touched by this unexpected visit. The tiny bird seemed to be thanking me for rescuing her and making sure she was safe. I stood there, entranced by her beauty and grace as she flew circles around me. After a few moments, she let out a squeaking call as if bidding me farewell and flew off into the distance. As I said goodbye to the hummingbird and climbed into my car, I knew that I would always treasure the memory of that special encounter.

2A few weeks later, I went to the farm again. Having parked my car, I walked straight to the deserted milking house and noticed the broken window was newly fixed. Peering in, luckily, I didn’t e across one more misguided hummingbird. After the “safety check”, it was the cookout time. With the smell of roasted food wafting in the air, my friends and I chatted agreeably. “And guess what?” the hosts said, “A hummingbird flies over here every day. Maybe i t’s your old friend!” Surprised and moved, I hoped inwardly to see my little friend once again. But until my friends walked to my car, she still hadn’t appeared.I was just about to leave when the hummingbird appeared. Apparently, the familiar buzzing sound announced her appearance. The moment I looked up, I saw bright eyes. It was her! I couldn’t help but beam at the sight of my tiny friend, who perched on my shoulder with jasmine in her beak. “Your thankyou gift?” I asked in a soft tone while reaching out to receive it. As if understanding my question, she let out a highpitched squeak and rubbed her head against my jaw. “What a miracle!” someone exclaimed, “A small act of kindness built a profound bond between human beings and animals.”
