阅读下面短文并回答问题(请注意问题后的词数要求)。

[1]A safari park is a park in which wild animals are kept. They are mainly located in east or central Africa. They often occupy a very wild area, with mountains and rivers. To visit the park and look at the animals, people have to drive around in

a car for a few hours because the park is huge.

[2]In South Africa there is a safari park, which contains all sorts of wild animals like lions, elephants, rhinoceroses(犀牛), zebras, wild pigs, deer and giraffes.

[3]There is a wild road leading through the park, but nobody is permitted to walk on the road. Anyone travelling in the park has to go in a car because wild animals may fiercely attack people. From the car he may see almost every type of African wildlife. Some of these are getting scarce(稀有的) because people kill them for various reasons. For example, rhinoceroses are killed for their horns(角), which are used in traditional Chinese medicines for colds and headaches. Perhaps they will be seen only in museums and books one day.

[4]Travellers may purchase food for the animals. They can feed them when they tour the park. Of course, they should not feed them in a close distance because the wild animals may attack people. In addition, they should only give proper food to the animals.

[5]A traveller may carry a gun with him in his journey. The gun is given to him by the government. However, it is not used for hunting. In fact, a seal is fixed to it. The traveller may fire at a wild beast to defend himself in case he is attacked. However, he has to prove to the government that he has been attacked and that he has not fired at a harmless animal.

[2014·江西六校联考]

Imagine a magical forest where the trees touch the sky. Due to enough rainfall, the trees grow huge and spread wide. Their tallest branches are so thick-leaved that they create a thick curtain. Even the wind does not find enough space to blow as it pleases. The climate is good for life forms of all kinds—from trees to animals, birds and insects.

These forests are called tropical rainforests. Most of them are located near the equator, in Asia, Africa and South America. The rainforest of the Amazon Basin in South America is one of the lushest(茂盛的) rainforests in the world. You will find more varieties of trees and animal life here than anywhere else in the world.

The tropical rainforests are called the green lungs of the planet. They absorb carbon dioxide from around them to process their food and release oxygen into the air. They also contain the largest number of trees with medicinal value.

But now human beings are out to destroy the rainforests. Many companies all over the world, especially in the West, have been attacking these rainforests for a variety of reasons. Some want to make profits by cutting down trees and selling wood; others are trying to be the only ones to make profits out of medicinal plants.

To the outside world, the rainforest has always seemed a very dangerous place. Generations of films and literature have shown the people who live in the rainforests as dangerous and violent people who have a strange way of life.

But actually, these people have a better understanding of their relationship with their environment than modern man has. Greed for profit by destroying the planet's resources is a unique quality of societies that have become modern and used technology. One should then ask, who is more violent?

[2014·江西南昌调研]

Teenage depression isn't just a bad mood or occasional sadness. Depression is a serious problem that impacts on every aspect of a teenager's life. Left untreated, teenage depression can lead to many problems.

Fortunately, teenage depression can be treated, and as a concerned parent, teacher or friend, there are many things you can do to help. You can start by learning the symptoms of depression and expressing concern when you spot warning signs. Talking about the problem and offering support can go a long way towards getting your teenager back on track.

There are as many misconceptions about teenage depression as there are about teenagers in general. The teens are tough, but most teenagers balance the trouble with good friendship, success in school or outside activities, and the development of a strong sense of self. An occasional bad mood or acting out is to be expected, but depression is something different. Depression can destroy the very nature of a teenager's personality, causing a great sense of sadness, despair or anger.

If you're un sure whether an adolescent in your life is depressed or just “bei ng a teenager”, consider how long the symptoms have been present, how severe they are, and how different the teenager is acting from his usual self. While some “growing pains” are to be expected as teenagers fight with the challenges of growing up, dramatic and long-lasting changes in personality, mood and behaviour are red flags of a deeper problem.

If you suspect that a teenager in your life is suffering from depression, take

action right away. Depression is very damaging when left untreated, so don't wait and hope that the symptoms will go away. Even if you're unsure that depression is the issue, the troublesome behaviour and emotions you're seeing in your teenager are signs of a problem. Whether or not that problem turns out to be depression, it still needs to be addressed—the sooner, the better.

[2014·江西宜春上高二中月考]

Six-year-old Ethan was a smart, active boy who had been, until very recently, easy to get along with. But lately, Ethan has changed greatly, being rude to others. His mum, Fiona, was working hard to figure out what was bothering Ethan, and talking to him about what it means to play well with others. But in the meantime, she got the sense that other mums were blaming her for Ethan's bad behaviour. She felt embarrassed—but she couldn't really fault them. Who else, she thought, could possibly be responsible?

We've long held a tendency to blame parents for how their children behave and develop. Though we most often fault mothers more than fathers, the idea is the same. If we are good parents, our children will turn out okay. If we're bad parents, well, they won't. Though research has proven that childhood development owes itself to

many influences, we can't seem to help but assign blame to us—and it has created a generation of parents who judge themselves, and each other, by how their children do.

But to what extent are children really reflections of us? To some degree, they are, certainly. But not to the fullest degree we often assume.

Once kids reach school age they are away from us many hours a day. We have less control over the things. People and behaviour that they latch on will have a great effect on them. Of course, it's always important to take note of and work to prevent the bad effects, but being away from parents is a good thing. It gives kids room to grow and explore in new ways. We will still be the most influential people in our children's lives and there is no doubt that they'll pick up some of our ideas, habits, prejudices, and talents. But they don't have to be—shouldn't be—our mirror image.

[2014·江西修水一中模拟]

When living out our daily lives, we're often filled with too many choices from different things around us, telling us how we can improve ourselves. The key to growing and becoming a better person is knowing what you want clearly.

Too many choices are never ideal. We're often told that having more would lead

to happiness. When in actual face, the opposite occurs. The key to avoiding this would be to remove everything that's currently distracting you.

Get rid of distractions.Looking back, the time in which I was the most confused and frustrated was when I had an abundance of choices. Life and routine suddenly became distractions and I found myself going through the motions every day, rather than stopping and reviewing my current circumstances. I knew that I had to remove these distractions.

Create goals and milestones. After you gain clarity about your current issues, it is now necessary to write milestones for yourself. Having a higher purpose will drive us to improve ourselves better. Look to creating larger goals for yourself firmly as it will help guide you in the direction you've always wanted.

Appreciate what you currently have.People often lose sight of the things around them and that causes them to be worried from time to time. It's human nature to overlook the things we currently have and to feel dissatisfied with them due to having obtained them. Find appreciation in the things you have and in the life you currently lead.

Be willing to fail.It is often said that if you've never failed, you've never lived. And this is something I definitely agree with. Don't let fear stop you and learn to challenge yourself. It is an opportunity to grow and to become the person you've always wanted to be.

[2014·江西宜春上高二中月考]

It is believed that in such a competitive age, art education is close to an unnecessary part in schools today. However, most of the advantages that a student would gain out of the basic education in art are almost unbelievable.

There have been years of research involved in the importance of art education and what art education goals are. The studies prove that what students gain out of art education is almost unbeatable, where any other course is concerned.

Motivation, inspiration and concentration are some of the most prominently recorded benefits that a young student can get from taking education. For a young person's personal growth and development, the education in art is something that is considered to be very important as it changes the way one looks at the world.

A child whose parents are rich will naturally and very often be exposed to art, whether it is in the form of art pieces hanging at home or visits to fashionable art museums. This has again been seen over the years by researchers. At the same time, it has been noticed that exposure to art is something that is very distant for children who belong to families with little money and they end up spending their childhood without forming any connection with art.

Art education goals in schools therefore should be that equal exposure to the wonders of art should be given to all students, whatever age groups and whatever their family backgrounds are, because one never knows where talent might be hidden.

However, art education goals have been slipping away from our education system for more than twenty years as people have begun to pay less attention to the requirements of art in their children's lives. The reasons for this could be stressful budgets as well as stuffing of curriculum in classrooms. Whatever these unfortunate reasons are, people have to once again realize art education goals and how they can actually be helping each student.

[2014·江西十校联考]

How often does your child automatically pick up a book, a magazine, a newspaper, or other printed materials simply for the pleasure of reading? Experts have begun to realize that a young person's interest in independent reading seems to be important to long-term success. However, not all children like reading independently. That's where you should do your part as a parent.

First, understand that independent reading is not guided or shared reading. You may be present in the room with your son or daughter, but you will not be engaged in reading the book for your child. Instead, the child should pick up a book on his or her own, whether he or she can read all the words or not.

Not only does this kind of independent reading increase a child's imagination, focus, comprehension and vocabulary, but it also allows him or her to build interest in a subject. For example, if he or she finds the Roman Empire fascinating, reading independently about that period could broaden his or her understanding of society.

One of the best ways to raise a youngster's interest in independent reading is to become an independent reader yourself. Turn off the TV and open the newspaper. Take time at the end of the day as a family to enjoy some free reading moments. The more you do it yourself, the more likely your child will be to accept it as a proper, regular thing to do. You can also begin building your child's personal “library”. That way, he or she will have many choices of books to peruse during independent reading.

Remember that reading achievement is linked to a love of independent reading. So next time your child picks up a book, allow him or her to have some private moments. You'll never regret your decision to embrace independent reading.

Have you ever had the wish to live another 100 years or more? Experts say that scientific advances will some day enable us to live tens of years longer than what is now seen as the natural limit of the human lifespan.

“I guess we are knocking at the door of living longer,” said Michael Zey, a Montclair State University business professor and author of two books on the future. “I think by 2075 we will achieve that goal and that's a conservative estimate.”

At the conference in San Francisco, Donald Louris, a professor at New Jersey Medical School in Newark said advances in using genes as well as nanotechnology(纳米技术) make it likely that humans will live in future beyond what has been possible in the past. “There is a great push so that people can live from 120 to 180 years,”he said.

However, many scientists who specialize in ageing are doubtful about it and say the human body is just not designed to live past about 120 years. Even with healthier lifestyles and less disease, they say failure of the brain and organs will finally lead all humans to death.

Scientists also differ on what kind of life the super aged might live. “It remains to be seen if you pass 120, you know, could you be healthy enough to have a good quality of life?” said Leonard Poon, director of the University of Georgia Gerontology Centre. “At present people who could get to that point are not in good health at all.”

One day, a poor boy named Howard Kelly who was trying to pay his way through school by selling goods door to door found that he only had one dime(十分硬币) left. He was hungry so he decided to beg for a meal at the next house.

However, he lost his courage when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal, he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so she brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, “How much do I owe you?”

“You don't owe me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught me never to accept pay for a k indness.” He said, “Then I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but it also increased his faith in God and the human race. He was about to give up and quit before this point.

Years later the woman became critically ill. The local doctors were confused. They finally sent her to the big city, where specialists can be called in to study her rare disease. Dr Howard Kelly, now famous, was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately, he rose and went down through the hospital hall into her room.

Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room and determined to do his best to save her life. From that day on, he gave special attention to her case.

After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it and then wrote something on the side. The bill was sent to her room. She was afraid to open it because she was positive that it would take the rest of her life to pay it off. Finally she looked, and the note on the side of the bill caught her attention. She read these words:“Paid in full with a glass of milk.”

For her drive and creativity in overcoming those challenges, she’s been named national teacher of the year. Principal Waynes Kettler said he’s worked with many outstanding teachers in his22years as an educator, but Peterson is“just that one step above anybody I’ve ever worked with before.” Kettler and others at Monte Cristo Elementary School talk about the ways she has introduced the learning from other classrooms into her music program and her creativity in working around things such as the lack of money for new music. When students were reading S.E.Hinton’s novel The Outsiders in their regular classroom, Peterson helped them write a30-minute play with scenes from the book. Then they chose three Broadway tunes that focused no race, equality and social justice, the themes of the book.Peterson composed two other songs herself after classroom discussions about the play and the book.
