亚洲地形基本特征
第一，高原、山地面积广大，约占全洲面积的3／4；第二，地势中部高、四周低，高原、山地集中在中部，平均海拔4000米以上，边缘地区海拔多在200米以下；第三，地形复杂多样，起伏很大，既有世界最高的喜马拉雅山脉（最高峰珠穆朗玛峰海拔8848米），又有世界最低的洼地死海（海拔—400米）和辽阔的平原。
非洲地形基本特征
非洲地形以高原为主，地面起伏不大，被称为“高原大陆”。平均海拔600米以上，地势由东南向西北倾斜。西北部分布有阿特拉斯山脉，东南部有德拉肯斯山脉。
非洲地形可分成三部分：第一，高原。自北向南有埃塞俄比亚高原、东非高原、南非高原。乞力马扎罗山（海拔5895米）位于东非高原，是非洲最高峰。非洲东部有一条纵贯南北的断层陷落带——东非大裂谷带，长6000多千米，谷底有一连串狭长水深的湖泊；第二，盆地。中部是广大的刚果盆地，原为广阔的内陆湖，后因地壳上升，河流下切，湖水外泄而成；第三，沙漠。北部是撒哈拉沙漠，面积770多万平方千米，是世界上最大的沙漠。
欧洲地形基本特征
第一，欧洲地形以平原为主，平原面积约占全洲总面积的2／3，主要平原有东欧平原、中欧平原（波德平原）、西欧平原；第二，地势起伏不大，平均海拔在300米左右，是世界上平均海拔最低的洲；第三，冰川地形广布，第四纪冰川对欧洲广大地区影响显著，东欧平原和中欧平原部分地区呈波状起伏的地形；北欧地区的峡湾海岸和众多的湖泊；南部阿尔卑斯山区的宽谷和尖峰等，都是冰川作用的结果。第四，山脉主要分布在北部和南部：北部有斯堪的纳维亚山脉，南部是阿尔卑斯山脉。
北美洲地形基本特征
北美洲地形明显地分为三个南北纵列带，即西部是高大的山系，中部为广阔的平原，东部是低缓的高地。
西部高大的山系属科迪勒拉山系，由海岸山脉、内华达山脉及落基山脉等几列平行山脉组成，山间分布着高原和盆地。
中部广阔的平原分布在西部山地和东部高地之间，北起北冰洋，南抵墨西哥湾，是一片纵贯北美大陆中部的广阔平原，平原上有世界上最大的淡水湖群——五大湖（苏必利尔湖、密歇根湖、休伦湖、伊利湖、安大略湖）。

(一) 陆地海洋概况
到目前为止，地球是人类能够维持自己生存，半径为6371公里的椭圆型的唯一球体。海水体积为地球体积的1/800。地球的表面积51000万平方公里,海洋面积和陆地面积的比例约为7：3,地球表面大致可以划分为七大部分：位于地球仪的顶部是北冰洋，下部是南极洲，中间依次是世界岛——欧洲亚洲非洲，大洋洲，印度洋，太平洋，南北美洲，大西洋。按面积大小依次为：
1． 太平洋18000万平方公里
2． 大西洋9300万平方公里
3． 欧亚非洲大洋洲（等于大西洋面积）9300万平方公里
4． 印度洋7500万平方公里
5． 南北美洲4200万平方公里
6． 南极洲1400万平方公里
7． 北冰洋1300万平方公里
其中，海洋36100万平方公里占地球表面积2/3以上达71%分为四大洋；陆地14900万平方公里占地球表面积29%不到1/3，分为七大洲。南极洲1400万平方公里目前无人居住。人类居住的陆地面积实际为13500万平方公里,占地球表面积26·47%，四分之一多一点。约相当于13个中国国土的面积。
（二）海洋概况
地球表面海洋面积为36100万平方公里，太平洋占49·8%，大西洋26%，印度洋20%，北冰洋4·2%。世界海洋面积太平洋占将近一半，其他三大洋大西洋印度洋北冰洋占一半。
太平洋17968万平方公里,相当于10个南美洲，18个中国，占地球表面积35.2%，超过1/3,平均水深4028米，海水体积72370万立方公里。太平洋占世界海洋面积的49·8%几乎一半。东西最宽19900公里，南北最宽15900公里。北有白令海峡与北冰洋相通，东有巴拿马运河，麦哲伦海峡，德雷克海峡沟通大西洋，西经马六甲海峡，巽它海峡和龙目海峡，东南印度洋海丘，托莱斯海峡，帝汶海等沟通印度洋。太平洋中较大的岛屿有2600余个，简单概括为一弧三群：一弧，分布在太平洋北部，西部，西南部各边缘海外侧的弧形列岛，包括阿留申群岛千岛群岛，日本诸岛，琉球群岛，台湾，菲律宾和印度尼西亚诸岛。这些岛屿距离大陆近，面积大，多港湾，补给能力强，军事利用价值大。三群：分布在太平洋中部的三大群岛：美拉尼西亚，密克罗尼西亚和玻里尼西亚。美拉尼西亚岛群包括所罗门，巴布亚新几内亚，斐济等；密克罗尼西亚为微型岛群，有加罗林，马里亚纳，吉尔伯特群岛；玻利尼西亚岛群包括夏威夷，中途岛，社会群岛等。象巴拿马海盆的科隆群岛，夏威夷群岛,关岛，中途岛，琉球群岛正对着上海，冲绳群岛等，我们必须给予关注。这些群岛的地理位置对于我们国家环顾全球具有重要意义。
